I would highly recommend Sophie to anyone looking for a trainer. I have used a couple very good trainers and I would pick Sophie again and again. She went above and beyond to spend more time than I paid for in order to build the relationship with my GS. Sophie certainly knows what she is doing when it comes to training dogs. She really helped me learn how to handle and interact with my golden retriever puppy as we worked to train her. We are about to finish up beginner lessons and start the intermediate lessons because I want our dog to continue to progress as she has thus far. I highly recommend Sophie for training purposes. Sophie is doing an impressive job of training our large male German Shepard, Finn. He was almost a year old with no previous training and had an aggressive nature prior to Sophie beginning to train him. He is much more obedient and calm. Words cannot describe how helpful, patient, and full of joy Sophie was with our 8 month old golden retriever! Sophie truly has a talent and passion for training, and it was incredible to see the progress Rylee made every week. At first I thought there was no way I was going to be able to do the things Sophie was doing, but the way Rylee responds to my husband and I during training times, and now during every day commands/tasks is truly remarkable. Rylee has so much energy and gets beyond excited when guests come over, and Sophie has taught us how to get her to calm down in order to be pet and shown affection. Also she LOVES training times which is so special to see her get a joy from working and responding and learning! Sophie Thomas is truly a dog whisperer! We have a mini dachshund puppy and a 3 year old dachshund mix. The mix is a rescue that had been abused and had major behavioral problems. From the very first time Sophie worked with them, they were obeying and following her lead. She then "trained" us on how to continue to work with our dogs and we are thrilled with the results! The homework she provided kept us on task and made it so much easier than just trying to remember all that she said during the session. You can tell her true love of animals. Sophie did a great job helping me learn to train my puppy at a young age. He is a great puppy (with personality). Now I know how to train him for different things. Sophie made herself available whenever I had questions. I like that she always gives an explanation about dog behaviors and and explanations for the training. She also explains what she is doing when she models the training for you, which I found very helpful. I feel like I have a much better understanding of my dog now! My foster dog who came from a neglectful and possibly abusive situation has benefitted greatly by working with Happy Tails. She is more confident and is doing so well on her sit and lie. Sophie communicates calm to her and she's been able to learn how humans communicate.
Previously she would cower when you reached for her or talked to her. Now she sits and watches for a command. Sophie does an excellent job with undersocialized and reactive dogs! I highly recommend her. More...

Sophie helped me with my foster/rescue dog, Zeus. He came to me as a 9 month old 80 lb ball of energy. No manners, huge, uncontrollable puppy. She taught him how to behave... he learned to sit, stay, place, leave it, come, walk on a leash and it truly turned this dog around. Thanks again Sophie. Sophie has worked wonders with our 1 year old Great Dane pup, Max. He has come so far in the beginner course, and we can't wait to continue further with training! Im a brand new puppy owner... never have had a dog of my own so I didn't have a clue how to train my puppy. I turned my new wild and crazy silky terrier puppy over to happy tails and in 3 weeks my puppy had wonderful manners; could sit, stay, down, come when called, and place. She's quit jumping on me and visitors; and plays wonderfully with other dogs. I would have been bald by now, from pulling out my hair, if i had not discovered Sophie Thomas. Thank you, Sophie. We have a very energetic golden retriever who is a year and a half, and Sophie took her in for a month of board and train. Before she went to get trained, she would jump all over the couches and lose her marbles every time someone came in. She could not fetch, would not drop her toy, dragged us down the street on walks, and wouldn't come when called. When we got her back, not only were all of these things no longer true, she actually was so much calmer and seemed to have found a sense of purpose in the training. Sophie then walked us through all the steps in how to keep up her training to make it stick and it's been completely manageable. Our sweet pup Rylee went from one extreme to the other in the best way. She will even stay in "place" (on a cot) for the length of an entire movie and not get off until we release her. Could not recommend this more, even if you think your dog is too far gone. More...

We’re actually only 4 classes into the Beginner’s course and my Peyton is a completely different dog. He’s a 1.5 year old lab mix with lots of energy. He is also very hardheaded. I had to use a gentle leader anytime I took him anywhere and it was a constant battle. Since we’ve started, he’s just been overall calmer. All of my friends and family have commented on it without me even asking. I don’t even know where his gentle leader even is anymore. We’ve also taught him not to lay under the table to beg while we eat. I could not be happier with our results so far! More...

We tried a group setting training class. What a disaster! I was at my wits end with Dixie then we found Sophie. It's taken us a while but I can't tell you how happy we are with her progress. Now on to the intermediate class.

Loved it! She worked so well with my dog. My dog was severely abused (wouldn't even walk) and by the time we found Sophie my dog wouldn't approach people, especially men, always tucked her head, and was terrified of other dogs. After her first set of sessions, she was walking up to people to greet them, wasn't too terribly scared of other dogs, and became a much more confident dog. Very happy! More...
