My wife is a Louisana native and I'm a lifelong Virginian. We were traveling by and happened upon this place and it ROCKED. Don't be fooled by the simple exterior. The food is awesome and the staff was friendly. If the amount of take out business being done says anything; it's that this place is local's fav. My wife had the shrimp and grits and I had the shrimp po'boy. None of the food was bad. If was mostly decent, but it earns a 3 because the service was so terrible. My husband had a shrimp po'boy and said "that was a 3 star po'boy- it was meh". We also had the soup trio which included seafood gumbo which was good, shrimp bisque also just good, and the crawfish etouffe which was almost completely uneaten. Although I am not sure if that was due to flavor or the fact that is was not quite like warm when it hit the table. The shrimp boil was fine. I had four shrimp boil over this week long vacation and it would rank 2/4. The biggest disappointment was the fact that there was a seafood buffet that there were no signs for nor Which the waitress told us about. After 40 minutes of waiting for a table and 15 of being ignored at the table and then 20 of sitting after we ordered, we saw people coming from the other side with several of the foods we had ordered. It may have been a different story had we not waited so long and been able to try the buffet. 5 stars all day long! Very welcoming place. I had blackened catfish with crawfish etouffee on top with green beans and hush puppies. Â Hubby had blackened shrimp with okra. Â Both dishes were delicious! Â Then the bread pudding was served! Â Hubby polished that off as I was stuffed. The Minister of War and Finance and I we're in town for the night and decided to eat at this hole-in -wall. Wow, I had the seafood gumbo, my wife (MW& F) had the seafood bisque both were great and large portions. We also had salads that were fresh and very good. Stopped while traveling through since it was close to the exit and had plenty of parking. It was Friday evening so there was a 5-8 minute wait. After being seated our waitress promptly got our drink orders.Wife had the bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo; gravy was fantastic. Quick Review for a Quick Dinner StopItem 1: Taste of the Bayou (choice of three soups) -seafood gumbo: Really taste the crab flavor! Has a crab in it. This was my favorite from all the soups I selected. Â The bread that it comes with is flakey on the outside. Best way to describe it is Philsbury biscuit having babies with a dinner roll. It was truly amazing. Â Item 2: Crawfish pie - loaded with crawfish in the creamy filling and the flakey crust is to die for! Item 3: Boudain - wow... my first time having these and I am in fall. They look similar to large hushpuppies but aren't dry. With the first bite in the middle, you'll see grains packed together. It's savory, it's packed with variety of seasoning, and delicious. Decent food and a fair amount of food for the price. Maybe you get more if you dine in but after reading the reviews I was a little surprised at the amount we got as I was thinking the portions were going to be bigger. Bowl of Roseys gumbo - 5 Star - It was hot, tasted great and was definitely the highlight of all the food we got.Crawfish etouffee - 2 Star - Didn't really have a great flavor but that could have been because it was extremely salty. I didn't find many crawfish while searching also.Shrimp & Catfish meal - 4 star - The fries, hush puppies and catfish were good but nothing to really brag about. Don't wait on me your food will get cold. After our party of 5 made our orders everyone received their food except for me. Somewhere Between our table and the kitchen my order was lost in the transition. I had to watch as everyone else ate, and finished their food. Every time I'm in town I like to go here and grab a bite to eat I really enjoy the gumbo with a name like gumbo pot you better have a good gumbo and they do.
