really fun atomosphere! Laid back and everyone who was working was friendly and attentive. The pretzel appetizer was delicious and shared with 4 of us-the mustard to dip it with was sweet, spicy and perfect. My parents and boyfriend did the brat and beer special for Thursday (free beer with brat) and were satisfied with the amount. I had the pork schnitzel with red cabbage and potato dumplings. The schinitzel and cabbage were amazing, the potato dumplings were over salted but I still finished them. The beer selection wasn't extensive but had some great selections. We all shared the flight where we got to try 8 different beers. They also have a full bar with a handful of cocktails as well as some wines for those who don't care for beer, so it's great that everyone can find something. Definitely will be back to try more of the menu, it was such a nice spot and worth the venture off the beaten path! More...

We went Feb. 5th for Dad's 86th. He loves waffles and ordered the Belgian with fruit as did my SIL. What was served looked good but were uncuttable without extreme force. Hard as rocks. They forgot the fruit and whipped cream on one.  Our server (David U) rectified that and was great throughout. He was also dealing with a gentlemen who was complaining about his bangers and mash, which I also found sub-par. Great beers but kitchen needs help! Will try them again in a few months and see what's up. More...

Came here with a group of friends for Baltimore Restaurant Week for the first time! We arrived around 7 on a Friday evening and the brewery was busy yet had plenty of seating available. It is reminiscent of a European beer hall, with wooden tables and 1L mugs. Large wooden doors, brick walls, and high ceilings with light fixtures fit for a king, this place has got it all!To get the full experience, I went with a $10 special beer tasting assortment that was an add-on to their BRW menu. Definitely a great choice since I got to try 6 different beers and got plenty of them (5 oz tasters). I enjoyed some of them more than others, but I wouldn't say I disliked any of them. For my appetizer I got the lamb kofta sliders which were great! Definitely well seasoned and a great start to the meal. For my entree I went with Pork Schnitzel which was a massive portion and super tasty. I really enjoy that they serve it with potato dumplings and pickled cabbage, it helps balance it out well. The schnitzel was a bit soggy, which was a bummer since otherwise the dish would've likely been perfect. For dessert I went with the bread pudding, and I can definitely tell they add plenty of Brandy in it... almost too much. It was almost hard to eat because of how strong it was, so I almost wish I had gone with the ice cream.Overall the vibe of the place is great, the beer is good, and they have plenty of food options to choose from. I would give this place a shot, its really a hidden gem! More...

I honestly can't believe a place like this exists right next to the infamous Copycat building but here we are... stately 15 foot wooden doors, castle-like chandeliers, exposed brick, and modern glass throughout. This place exists and it's in one of the most unfrequented corners of Greenmount West. I came for the giant soft pretzel but stayed for the incredibly friendly service. Seriously, as someone who doesn't really drink beer I felt at ease thanks to our server who patiently explained each item on the beer list and made informed recommendations based on what beers I normally like. They're not kidding when they say European fare with a Baltimore twist. You're not going to find frilly sours with copious amounts of fruit, or odd beer creations that taste more like candy. This place has your classic European style beers and some surprisingly delicious food. We ordered the beer flight which comes with a handful of their most popular brews (great for the indecisive folks out there - ahem... me), the caesar salad, the brussel sprouts without the bacon, the giant soft pretzel, and the french fries. Our favorites were the brussel sprouts, the dipping sauce that came with the french fries, and the giant pretzel with the cheese sauce (order extra cheese sauce, you won't regret it). My friend also ordered a cocktail so for those who refuse to drink beer, you'll still find something you like at their bar. Overall, the total came out to about $60 without tip - very reasonable for the amount of food we got, the atmosphere, and the quality of the service. I imagine this as a perfect place to bring out-of-towners who want to explore beyond the commercialization of the touristy Inner Harbor. They even have a heated patio out back. I am officially a fan and I will be returning! More...

I'll start off by saying the ambiance in this place is great. I loved walking in and seeing the different varieties of seating, the lettering on the walls, and all of the people chatting with their friends. My friends and I enjoyed every beer we ordered. We tried to taste a little bit of everything. The friendly prices definitely allowed for that. For the cons:1) There seemed to be lots of workers wandering aimlessly, not doing much. I arrived and waited almost 10 minutes before a server came with drinks for the rest of my party, and when I tried to ask her for drinks, I was told to wait for my waitress. She eventually came another 5-10 minutes later. I tried to understand this when it was a packed house, but when the hall got emptier, service still seemed slow.2) The food had excellent presentation, but the flavors were very much lacking. The sausages tasted like unflavored pork at best. I'd liken them to the middle of a corndog. The pretzel was alright, but the beer cheese tasted like something from powder. I just expected better.3) The only time service seemed fast was when they were removing our empty glasses.I would love to come back for beer, but I'm not sure I would venture out to eating more of the food. I would hope the service would be a little quicker, too. More...

Saved our Saturday night! We went to the German Christmas village downtown, hoping for some bratwurst, pretzels and German beer only to discover extremely long lines and overcrowding.  I looked up other German places on Yelp and decided to give Guilford Hall a shot. Wow, this place is beautiful and you can tell a lot of thought and care went into its construction.  Since we were already dressed in winter gear/ prepared to stay outside we opted for the outside beer garden type area. We actually didn't even need coats between the tented area and heat lamps.  The beer sampler was a great suggestion by server and the pretzel did not disappoint!  We ordered the rest of our food/drink through the app and I found it very convenient, so we could order as we pleased.  I should note we also had two toddlers in tow, and while I wouldn't think of this ordinarily as a "kid friendly" spot, they were nothing but kind and accommodating.  The kids especially enjoyed the regular/sweet potato fries and pretzel, and running around on the back grassy area. I've visited Guilford  Hall Brewery a few times now, and I love it. It's really large, with a large inside and a large beer garden outside (there's even a little covered area with another small bar outside too). I've really enjoyed their beers (I've done a flight and tried a few); their beers are definitely more traditional, German-style beers, which is refreshing when it seems like every brewery in America has put all their eggs in the IPA or sour baskets (I like these style beers, but having a more traditional option that isn't as trendy is great!). They also have wine and cocktails if that's more your thing or if someone in your party isn't into beer. The food is pretty good, too! I've tried the Giant Guilford pretzel (great), Caesar Salad (good), Short Rib Stroganoff (good), Margherita flatbread (had it twice, and one was good and one wasn't?). The service has been fantastic both times I've visited, and I love the space and vibe of this brewery! I'll definitely be back! More...

Looking for somewhere close the The Lyric for a beer and meal after a show, we found this place online. Wow! It was great. I had their Marzen which was delicious. My wife enjoyed their lager. The food was exceptional. We started with the soft pretzel which was large and fresh from the oven. It was enough of an appetizer for four people. For my meal, I chose the burger on the pretzel bun. It was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. My wife ordered a chicken panini and thought it was delicious. Our friends ordered something from the German portion of the menu and seemed to enjoy their meals.Parking on a Sunday evening was easy. Guilford Hall is an awesome addition to the Baltimore brewery scene. Their beers are traditional European styles. I love funky craft beers and IPAs and sours, but there's something wonderful about going back to the classics with ales and stouts and Hefeweizens. You can get a flight of generous pours to sample the brews, and once you find one you like you can even get it in whopping liter sized mug. The service is great, and the Biergarten is very large and nicely decorated, perfect for a crisp evening outside. Not only will you find great beer, but the food is excellent. The fish and chips is authentic and optionally served with the traditional, if divisive, malt vinegar, and is a huge portion. The duck poutine was excellent, and their burger was perfect. If you're like me, you just have to have a big pretzel when drinking this much beer, and the pretzel here does not disappoint-it's warm and perfect and served with excellent mustard and melty cheese. I've been to Guilford Hall twice now, and it has quickly become a favorite. More...

Wow, I am actually so sad that this place opened after I moved out of Baltimore. I was in town visiting some friends and we decided to check this place out, and it may have easily made the top of my list of bmore breweries. The ambiance and vibe is so chill, the decor is modern, and the space feels so open. Parking is easy, free street parking. I came with a group of 8 (all of our first time) and we all immediately loved it. Okay onto the actual brews and grub - we came for Sunday brunch and they had a pretty decent brunch menu! Out of our group we tried the shepherds pie, the American breakfast, the breakfast burger, and the hangover. We almost considered the large pretzel but luckily we didn't because we were stuffed! Great selection of brews too, from Hefeweizens to marzen to shandy to IPA. Will 100% come back when I'm in town and recommend it to others. No pictures from my visit there unfortunately, was too busy having a blast! More...

The former Crown Cork & seal factory has been meticulously restored and also offers patrons a lovely outdoor ambiance/beer garden. The hostess was incredibly welcoming when our party arrived. The beer menu includes a variety of options, even flights! Bear in mind however, this isn't like your typical Baltimore brewery. Guilford Hall is modeled after a European-style beer hall. Don't search for happy hour deals here but you will find a hefeweizen or a delicious octoberfest. While we were very impressed by the massive pretzel on the menu, overall the food is a tad pricey for what it is. For instance, the Duck Confit Poutine entree ($16) was a teeny crock. We ordered this, albeit among many other items, to share and the serving size afforded each of us a single bite (we were a group of 4). We also felt a tad rushed by the bus boys. I recently visited this new brewery, and wow - it quickly rose toward the top of my list of breweries in Baltimore! Not only were the beers and food very good, but the beer garden is the best in the city in my opinion. I enjoyed all the beers on my flight, but especially the British and English Session Ales. The pretzel was AMAZING and I would have to get that anytime I go there, especially dipped in the mustard.Although we sat outdoors, the indoor area was also very nice and would be a good place to hang out when the weather isn't as beautiful. The service was decent - they use an app to do all of your ordering and paying, so it is very easy. It was very busy that day but things came out pretty quickly and the food runners and bartender were friendly. I thought using the app was very efficient since you didn't have to wait for someone to come back when your beer was empty - you could just order another! We live in Columbia so it was a bit inconvenient to get to, but otherwise I think we'd be here all the time! Let me start by the positive aspects of this place: it is a super cool atmosphere and the beers are great. The servers were nice and I absolutely understand that places are short staffed, but this place was otherwise quite a miss. The waiters and management were very nice and apparently they are going through a bit of a transition period with chefs and suppliers, so I'm hoping my next visit is better. My favorite dish was definitely the Devils on Horseback (bacon wrapped bleu cheese figs). Everything else was really disappointing. Flavor is sorely lacking in most of these dishes - my prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread with arugula was bland, others in my party had fatty/tough schnitzel, and the roast carrots actually made me sad with how bland they were. Another member of my party had the sausage board and literally couldn't tell two of them apart because they had such a lack of flavor. The short rib stroganoff was excellent and apparently the burger was good as well. A few bright spots but it felt like the menu was more of an afterthought. Especially for a German beer hall, I'd expect at least the sausage and schnitzel to be excellent, but they're not quite there. Another point to make is that their pretzels are not made in the traditional German method (using lye) but are instead made with baking soda.I'm also wondering if they have an issue with the availability of some of their plates (like, physical plates) because it took a long time for them to clear our plates but it seemed like they came by and selected certain plates and glasses to take to the kitchen. Tl;dr - beer and atmosphere is good but there is a lot of room for improvement. I hope they do well because it is such a cool concept! More...

We sat at the bar and the bartender rarely checked on people sitting around because he didn't seem to know how to operate the POS system. He also forgot to put in our food order which was half of the reason for our visit but seemed to be a common occurrence with others around us. Normally, I would give the staff the benefit of the doubt because it's a new spot on a Friday night but given that the soft opening was a week ago, these kinks should've been ironed out over the past week. Summary:1. Food: 3/52. Drinks: 5/53. Ambience: 5/54. Cleanliness: 5/55. Price: 4/56. Service: 4/57. Waiting time: 4/58. Overall: 4/5This place is beautiful. The brewery takes on a rustic Germany brewery vibe with a European-inspired food and drink menu. It's clean, well desisted, and the bathrooms are single rooms which is really nice. This is the type of brewery you take your family to when they visit or bring your coworkers in to for a happy hour. It's a little loud but it's well-lit and the place is hopping. We came on the first day they opened so please keep that in mind as the review continues. We only had to wait about 3 minutes before they were able to seat us (party of 2). We got a beer and a Negroni. Because it was the first day, they only offered the Negroni cocktail from their cocktail menu - it was tasty and well made - very crisp flavor. We then ordered a schnitzel sandwich and a doner kebab. The food was a little disappointing, but I'm guessing most folks will be going here for the beer variety and not the food alone. The schnitzel sandwich came with fries whereas the kebab wrap did not. We had to order extra fries (ps the ketchup is tasty here) to complete the meal. The schnitzel sandwich was missing the aioli which made it a little dry. I asked for aioli on the side and they brought it after we had finished the sandwich (about 15-20 minutes after). Like I said, first day may have been busier than expected. Tbh though, I'm not sure the aioli would've helped. I could be wrong but I think they mixed up the aioli recipe with their tzatziki sauce recipe (coming from a total aioli snob from Catalonia, not just me). However, if they could improve their aioli and add it to the schnitzel sandwich, I think they could have a solid dish. The schnitzel was crispy but could've used a little more flavor (like the flavor aioli can add!). The kebab was tasty with a good portion of meat. I just wish it came with a side (or at least clearly stated in the menu that it was side-less). The veggies they used in the wrap were fresh and crisp. They were running out things on the menu but I think they had a successful turnout for their first night so not a bad reason to be running out of stuff. I anticipate that future visits will have more options and menu items. Menu prices range from $12 to $25 per plate. Because the kebab didn't come with fries, I thought it was a little pricier compared to other kebab places around town. COVID precautions also could have been better. The owners (I assume because they helped serve food and beer but weren't wearing the uniform like the rest of the staff) were walking around without any masks on. The wait staff and bartender wore masks though which seemed weird and inconsistent. It would've been better if the owners wore their mask too especially since the inside had AC. Outside they can go maskless but inside just seemed a bit risky given all the people inside eating and drinking and thus, unable to keep on their masks. Overall, I would come again, especially since I'm vaccinated. At least for the beer. If I wasn't, I might reconsider. The food could be improved but perhaps this was just the result of an extremely successful turnout on the first night. I will update as I revisit them and their menu! More...
