I was a member at this gym for 12 years and only ended my membership because I recently moved.  Over the years I have had my share of complaints mostly with cleanliness and people not being good stewards of the gym.  When you have such a large gym that his open 24hrs, I just think it is difficult to stay on top of things all the time.  With that said, I can say they have had issues maintaining a consistent cleaning staff for some reason.  As far as people not treating the gym well, I think that mostly has to do with the price point. This gym is VERY reasonably priced for what you get - I think people take that for granted unfortunately and a lot of the members just don't respect the equipment as much as they should.I've been away for a month now and even with its flaws, I miss this gym sorely.  Must be one of those, you don't know what you have till it's gone situations .  I am basically now paying over double the price for my current gym for about 25% of the gym.  The fact is, you just can't beat what you get here for the price you pay.  This place is HUGE!  They have cardio machines galore, all the free weights you could want, deadlift platforms, CrossFit your thing? - they have that too!  Bumper plates, ropes, CrossFit cage, boxes, etc - they offer classes and have a Lady's Golds section as well.  You get to bring a free guest with you ANYTIME with your membership (just make sure they have an ID as they will hold it at the front desk) - this was extremely nice when a friend would visit and they don't try to pressure your guest into a membership either which is a major bonus! Here are a few common complaints I have heard over the years here and my personal experience or response:1) Rude staff - I have never once had an issue with the staff here.  Anytime I have brought something up to them they have alway been very nice.  Even when I had to come in to cancel my membership due to my move, they were very nice. Bottom line is when the staff here deals with customers, they are normally upset about something and I think that anybody that works in customer service eventually starts to hate the customers if they only are getting yelled at all the time.  If you have an issue with something try to remember it's not the staff fault and they want to see things fixed and nice just like you.  Treat them with respect and they will do the same.2) Cleanliness - as I said previously, this had been a sticky point for me a well.  Bottom line for me though is that it is not a big enough problem to outweigh all the pros to this gym.  For me, I just always tried to leave the gym in better shape then when just got there.  Wether  that means picking up a few paper towels off the floor when I throw my own away, or putting a couple plates back in their proper location.  I just tried to be a good steward of the gym to keep it nice - we all want a nice place to workout, so we should all do our part.3) Broken equipment - I've never seen a piece of equipment broken here for an unusually long period.  They are fairly good about fixing things when they are broke.  The silver lining is there is always another piece of equipment that you can use for whatever you are targeting that day.  Did I mention this place is huge and has a crap ton of equipment!4) Locker rooms - these still need some work and I have seen them maintained well for periods of time, and there have been times where 3 of the 5 showers had been broken for 2 months or more at a time.  I think this has to do with the cleaning staff problems I had mentioned before.  It's unfortunate because this seems like a fairly easy issue to address.  Overall it's not something that would keep me from this gym and I would workout in the morning and shower here everyday before work.Bottom line is you will NOT find a better gym for the price you pay in the area.  The first thing I am going to do when I move back to Maryland is sign a membership back with Gold's Gym Glen Burnie. So happy with Gold's Gaithersburg! Clean facility with all the equipment one could need or want.  I've been taking classes with Gwen, Kerri, Bari and Miai (sp? ). All are motivating and knowledgeable. Gwen's classes (as well as the others) are incredibly fun and make you forget you're actually at the gym working out! I couldn't ask for a better group workout atmosphere.  Best of all though is Mel, the Gold's personal trainer I've been working with since October. She's so sweet, personable and really motivates me with creative and fun workouts! Not sure what I'd do without her! More...

This location of Gold's is relatively spacious, especially after its renovation. Downstairs, you have the studios, cardio equipment, turf area, boxing bags, and also a decent size weight training area. Upstairs houses more weight equipment, cardio equipment, stretching bars, the locker room, and the female-only area. There is plenty of paper towels/cleaning detergent to wipe down the equipment; lots of TV for your entertainment. Women's locker room are generally well maintained.  I am one of the morning gym goers and thus have no problems getting the equipment I want to use right away. All in all, a pretty well maintained gym. More...

I came in and did a self-tour during my visit to Venice Beach. Yes, it was very cool. I even bought a shirt for my brother's birthday for memories. What did I notice? Rooms, upon rooms, upon rooms of all the equipment you can imagine to buff you up. Everything you need to work every inch of your body and if you care to.I mean who wouldn't get inspired looking at FIT AF people with muscles upon muscles? I even saw some ladies who probably can out-bench any guy I know.  That is the beauty and reputation of Gold's Gym I guess. If you are from out of town and want to drop in, the rate I think is $35. If you want to take a cool tour and look at old-school photos of Arnold Schwarzenegger on the walls...you can do that too! I can seriously people watch here all day if I ever have the time. More...

Are you into pumping iron? Iron pumping is so fantastic! You know, I was thinking, Gold's Gym should be so incredibly grateful to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He and his orange colored, thick thighed pals were the kings of iron pumping on Venice Beach back in the day! They put Gold's Gym on the map. Gold's Gym is known for many things present day. I think, above all, one of the most famous characteristics of Gold's Gym is the ability to make noise there. You see, at most other gym establishments you are not allow to loudly grunt, scream, shriek, scream cry, or moan. Many gym goers that like to do a bit of cardio and then light weights are typically put off by these types of noises. Maybe it's because they simply don't understand! Here's the thing about the types of noises I just listed off above, they make plenty of sense when you are dead lifting 600 pounds! Serious pound cake dead lifters can't contain their beautiful voices because they are about to pop a blood vessel in their necks from how much pain they are in. Leaping to a different subject, I don't think I fully understand why people feel so comfortable going to public steam rooms. I think most of the population who uses public steam rooms chooses to overlook science in general. Do you know what mold likes? I do. Mold likes hot and damp places. Do you know what steam rooms are? I do. STEAM ROOMS ARE BLOODY BOXES OF DOOM THAT SPONTANEOUSLY FILL WITH MOLD AND NEVER STOP UNTIL THEY BREAK DOWN! And, don't even get me started on people who go nude or barefoot in those things. You are a psychopath if you don't at least where a towel and sandals in there. Gyms kind of freak me out, honestly. The truth of the matter is that going to gyms is sort of like raising babies. You know how you're supposed to allow children to get dirty essentially? For example, let them play around in the grass and jump in puddles...that type of stuff. Well, going to the gym is sort of like that. Maybe all of the germs and sweat and mold makes the body stronger somehow. Anyway, apologies for getting a bit off track. The main point here is that mold is terrifying. Also, Gold's Gym is iconic. More...

The gym is fine if you don't pay too much. I'm at $24.99/mo for all locations. A lot of equipment breaks down here, and some dildo rides in up the front ramp, walks upstairs, then continues zooming to the locker room on his electric unicycle. It's very embarrassing to watch and you see people roll their eyes. I wish they'd yell at him and the couple of dudes who work out in their underwear to knock it off since, like less than 25% of the members actually wipe down machines after, but whatever. :-|I'm just happy I'm not paying more than $24.99 to use this place. During nursing school, this gym was my haven; a place to crank out a quick workout and sweat out all my frustrations. Out of all the Gold's I've been to, this was by far the cleanest and friendliest. What truly sets this gym apart was the sense of community amongst its members - I also appreciated how friendly the staff were! This location has a green turf with extra barbells and hooks for squatting, along with 3 squatting racks. I wish there were more benches, but they gotta work with the space they have. Although the first level is a little cramped, the upper cardio level is quite nice! It was also less "warm" for whatever reason. Yes, this gym does get crowded, and yes it does get annoying sometimes. But if you walk in knowing it will be busy, it really isn't that bad. Thank you for a great year of gains Gold's! More...

When I say I LOVE this gym it is an understatement! I have been a studio member for a year and a half. It took me a few weeks to decide to join because it was significantly more per month than my last gym, but it has been WELL worth the added cost. There are the things you can see just by walking by - it's a beautiful, super convenient location (right next to Whole Foods); the facility is brand new, immaculate, and very well kept. Those things alone make it great. But then there are the things I didn't realize I was getting when I signed up that have really been the glue that keeps me coming back - even gets me up at 6:45am for workouts! The COACHES are awesome - they are so knowledgeable about the workouts, about the body, about getting stronger. The workouts are planned at the corporate level so no matter who's coaching you will get an intense workout that takes into consideration the body's needs for recovery and peak performance. At the same time each individual coach puts their spin on things that personalizes the experience. My favorite coaches are Coach Cal, Danny, and Coach Jackie. All of them are hard core - they are going to make you work like crazy, they are super attentive to our form in classes and will correct you to make you get the best workout. But they don't just correct you, they know how to motivate you and encourage you too. During the times you feel like it's the hardest and you're about to give up and you don't think you are doing it right, they'll be like "ALRIGHT TAMMY! NICE WORK!"They really do build COMMUNITY, and that is something I wasn't expecting. The coaches all know members by name from day one. They have community events and a Facebook group so that we can get to know one another and that is helpful for holding each other accountable. For example, I want to keep going to the early class because that's when my coaches will be teaching and that's when I'll see my usual crew. The other thing that was well beyond what I was expecting is that even when you feel pains or injuries they can coach you through that, especially Coach Cal. You can tell him about a sore spot or pain or injuries and he can give you work arounds (they all are good at that) so that you still get a good workout. I've also told Coach Cal about pain points and he can tell you stretches to do that really do make the soreness go away! Danny will usually tell us little science of exercise points about why we are doing an exercise and how it's building strength or going together with the whole workout. He sometimes apologizes for geeking out on it, but I love that! Also, because this is one of the premier Gold's gyms you can go to any other Gold's if you are out of town or just in a different area of town. In my travels though I have found that not all Gold's are created equal. The ones with studio programs are usually pretty nice (though not as nice as Riverdale), but some of the others can be variable. But, you can get in them all and have great workouts - it's usually best to call ahead and check that your membership will work and double check the classes and what they have. Also, just temper your expectations if you're used to Riverdale :). I love my gym! More...
