I contacted Shannon last year to ask her some design questions about our tired bedroom that needs a face lift. She agreed to have a video conference with me to jumpstart the plan. We chatted for a long time on the phone about what I was looking for and I was able to share the room via video to show her was I was working with. I have a pretty good eye but her knowledge is invaluable about layers and fabrics and all the multitude of details that tend to overwhelm me. The time spent was very helpful! It has definitely jump started ideas I would not have thought of and we will probably get on. Namely the curtains, wall covering and the built in and new light! She sent notes afterwards about our conversation with photos of pieces we chatted about. Now I just need to get off my duff and do it! Thank you Shannon! More...

Shannon has been working with us doing remote design on our 1830's farmstead and property for over a year and we could not be happier. She is easy to communicate with, has great ideas, easy implantation than we'd dreamed and a great vibe that comes across in all of our communication. Our kitchen was, frankly, a dump in a beautiful historical home and she made sure it was elegant, useful, and reflected us perfectly. It does not matter what I say about Shannon Ggem. My words cannot do her or her work justice. Her optimistic nature, passion, contagious joy and spot on design is breathtaking. Really. I was inspired by a color she used in a pool house on another project , but had nowhere use that color in my 1922 wood sided lakeside home ( sans pool house) --Until I decided that 17 years was long enough to delay my kitchen remodel. My kitchen is a galley, and to do anything but let it remain a galley would have required moving a wall, losing a bedroom or breaking every code in the book. I knew Shannon from a smaller but ambitious previous project she had done for me, transforming a blah room into a TRUE living space and had no hesitation in calling her about this kitchen, which I knew she could make at least livable and functional —but what I got instead is a masterpiece.

Starting with these words “I want to vault my ceiling and paint it turquoise-the rest is up to you”. Shannon found the exact right contractor for the job, and worked on every single detail, and I mean every single thing you can (or cannot) imagine. We shopped together for the fun stuff, for lighting and tile, paint and a faucet but, giving me choices at every turn, Shannon handled the rest right down to every last detail, And those details are hard work. Who thinks of the style and performance of hinges—hidden hinges?
I didn’t make this job easy either, by adding the living room, dining room and outdoor lighting into the mix. She never pushed me to part with the few things that I just could not let go of, instead, she incorporated them beautifully sometimes with just a tweak or two. In turn, I let her push me past my comfort zone in a few areas and she surprised me with things that I never, ever would have thought of myself but have fallen in love with. The most beautiful draperies I have ever seen came from Shannon’s incredible eye, incredible heart, her understanding my aesthetic…these chairs! Oh my!
”I get it”, she said, “you just want your living room to go Woosh”, demonstrating the feeling by waving her hand from the front of her face and over the top of her head. Perfect. And It does indeed woosh!
But back to the kitchen. That kitchen! My ‘might as well be husband” and I have i vookrf, btewed, played/laughed in it every day since its completion. The new Dutch door and added window casings bring the most beautiful light into what was the darkest room in the home. The new appliance “garage” featuring fold up doors, spacious cabinetry, deep drawers, along with hidden trash and recycling bins doubled the storage, even added more counter space, and changed my LIFE!! We start every day in that room and still marvel at what she accomplished. I MARVEL.
Just the other day, four of us stood in that kitchen having a conversation, impossibility before Shannon’s incredible passion and design turned that room, which HAD to remain the main entry to the house, into a showstopper. I used to bum-rush people through it to get to the good parts of the house it but now we linger in there. People have time to comment on my O’Keefe and Merritt stove and my collection of dishes and décor which range from our childhoods, our adventures, from places half way around the world, and from the Rite Aid up the street. Yes, Shannon finds a way.
The vaulted ceiling I asked for adds such incredible height which in turn makes what was a small cramped room feel so much larger, but when it was uncovered, we decided it was actually too big to host that turquoise paint I had longed for, yet Shannon found it a home for it on that beautiful Dutch door.

Due to the interesting history of the house and the stories we shared, she had a brain storm early on and asked if I would entertain using outside lighting inside. I would. We did, and I have never seen anything like it.
If you want something cookie cutter, you are out of luck, because Shannon Ggem will find the best parts of you and find a way to translate it into the things that will surround you and everyone you invite in to your now glorious and welcome home.
I look forward to our next project Shannon. I can hardly wait!

What a great experience we had with Shannon and Ggem Design !

We just bought a small craftsman house and this is the very first time we can actually make decisions. As exciting as it is, we are also overwhelmed with the possibilities and were worried about getting a nice flow, so we thought of asking the help of a pro.

But... we are not really into design, and our budget for it, is on small side, we were worried that it would be an issue. Not at all. Shannon suggested her Comprehensive Consultation, which was perfect for us.

To our surprise, we had a lot of fun shopping around and talking about projects. We got colors but also recommendations about the floors, fireplace, furniture type and set up, plants, exterior etc. Interestingly, I couldn't manage to step away from the former owners' setup before our meeting. We have moved quite a few times, it never happened before. Now, not only do we have great projects in mind, but the ideas keep coming. I seriously don't know how long this process would have taken if we had gone through it by ourselves. We are very happy we sought Shannon's advice!

Shannon Ggem is wonderful. My husband and I had a great experience working with her and Ggem Design co. on our master bath, kitchen and first-floor remodel. This was our first major construction and design project, so it was important to us to work with an expert who would be patient enough to educate us along the way and handle any challenges that arose. Shannon excels in all these areas. From the first time we talked with Shannon and throughout the entire project, she set our minds at ease with her obvious experience and knowledge. She helped us find the right contractors, and navigate all the design decisions along the way. She is a great listener and she really invested the time to get to know us. As the project unfolded we were frequently impressed with the ideas she had and her attention to detail. She was sensitive to our budget, and worked hard to find us options, while still guiding us toward quality products and sophisticated design choices. Shannon was lovely to work with and was always available to answer our questions until the very last detail was installed. She is definitely the professional you want in your corner! From the moment we began working together, we felt understood; when we couldn't articulate what we wanted Shannon provided pictures, swatches, samples, etc. until we hit on the perfect combinations, and she genuinely listened to what me and my husband wanted and needed for our full home remodel. Shannon was fun to work with and adventurous; we had an enormous job! What could have been a very stressful and difficult time was instead manageable, as Shannon was consistently mindful that we had kids, dogs and very busy lives to manage while under construction. She redesigned our kitchen into a functioning, aesthetically beautiful workplace, transformed five 30-year-old baths into restful, spa-like spaces, and through her vision of color and texture created a home that spoke to our casual and comfortable lifestyle. Shannon oversaw the rough and finish details expertly; her professional demeanor with contractors and suppliers was impeccable, and she handled delivery and installations seamlessly. But more than anything that can be recommended about Shannon is this: Shannon has spectacular taste. One has only to look through her work samples to see that she can pull off anything - from classical and conservative to modern and whimsical, Shannon's work is superior to every other designer in that she just has a gift - an eye if you will.

When my husband and I met Shannon we had demolished our house and were living in our garage. We were looking for someone to help us with all aspects of our new home.

Shannon was so delightful (and kind of funny too!). We worked together on a new laundry room, 2 kids rooms and bath, a very sophisticated Guest room and our new Kitchen/Dining/Great Room (with a 10 foot Island!). Each room need flooring and paint and window treatments and everything else. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say, it's the most amazing home I've ever seen!

She brought samples to us and printed endless pictures. She shopped alone and brought us amazing goodies and also took me places to find pieces to bring home or special order! Shannon helped us meet the deadlines of the contractor and worked with us to help us figure out what we liked!

She is price conscious when needed and super resourceful.

Our house is a home...Thanks Shannon....so much!
