Bruce is absolutely amazing! He is seriously a miracle worker! I took group fitness classs from him years ago, and when I got engaged and wanted to slim down, I knew he was the one to go to! I took personal training sessions with him for about nine months and my body was transformed!! I tried to do it on my own for a few months and couldn't get anywhere! Not only is Bruce a great trainer, he is so funny and keeps you laughing the whole time, making the session fly by! I would recommend (and have recommended) Bruce to anyone that will listen! He made me feel so confident on my wedding day!! More...

I worked out with Get Shaped Fitness for 3 years while living in Crystal City and loved every minute of it! Bruce helped to get me into some of the best shape of my life, and I got stronger than I'd ever been before. I did both personal training sessions and small group training and both were great! When I got engaged, he helped tailor my workouts to get me wedding-ready, so I was able to rock my strapless dress with confidence. He's a supportive coach that pushes you and helps you achieve your fitness goals. More...

I've been working out with Bruce for over two years now and have had a fantastic experience! I started out with Get Shaped Fitness group classes (Zumba, Yoga) and wanted to step up my fitness game and began looking into personal training. I started out with Laura, who was awesome, but she moved away from the area. Soon after, I continued with Bruce and I've been in the best shape of my life since. He's very accommodating with sessions and willing to work with my crazy work schedule. Every session is customized and planned and even altered on the spot when I throw a wrench in the plan. My experience with Get Shaped fitness is that they are professional, good at what they do and easy to work with! More...

I went to Bruce's classes for years, and he definitely pushes you! When I first started taking his total body classes I dropped 20+ lbs of weight I had gained that year for personal reasons. The seasons were total sweat sessions and I always left feeling like I burned tons of calories. And I kept up with the classes and kept the weight off! When I was pregnant Bruce adjusted the workouts for me, so that I wasn't doing anything that would put me at risk for hurting myself. The only reason I stopped going is now that I have a baby I took up lunch time classes at a local gym near my work because my sons bedtime is 7 and I can't make several classes a week and miss putting my son to bed! And I also moved from the location where classes were held. Otherwise I'd still be going!! More...

The location:There are actually 3 different locations for all the classes, and they aren't right next to each other...so if you make it right on time. ..to the wrong location, you don't have enough time to get to the other. This is my biggest complaint because I did it once and felt so dejected. I did send them an email and they excused the class for me. Their reminder emails come 24 hours before the class, which isn't too helpful if you are going to a class every day or every other day--it confused me instead. The classes and instructors:* Sivananda Yoga - Very interesting instructor. He jokes a lot, which is strange, because I feel like I should be calmed and focuses instead of laughing at stuff. But it allows for a calm, relaxed environment. He works on a lot of breathing technique. It was in his class, and with his specific-detailed instruction that I was able to do my FIRST ever tripod. And I've been to maybe....30-40 classes prior to this? Kudos. No music in the background.* Bootycore - Instructor is funny, and he encourages all to keep going and addresses people specifically and individually. I just don't think 30 minutes is really enough to get a good workout. Yes, it burned at the moment, but I didn't feel sore the day after. It was maybe a little over a handful of the same exercise repeated over and over for a period of time that included squats and leg exercises, and then ab exercises. Not sure if I actually got anything from the workout...* Power Yoga - I think the instructor is a little new or is not yet comfortable with teaching. She confused left and right side a couple of times (of the handful of classes I went to), and when we are supposed to have our eyes closed (I peeked), she was practicing or stretching to prep for the next positions, which--I guess I feel like should be done prior to the class starting? I didn't feel too challenged in the class. She also plays pop music...which, in my opinion isn't too conducive to a yoga environment...because I wanted to sing along. But I guess maybe that's where the "Power" part of the class name comes from.* Flow Yoga - She is GOOD. I was even sweating a little. This takes yoga 'flow' to the next level, and you basically move through Vinyasa multiple multiple times with few breaks. The music that she plays is interesting, with a good beat but not too distracting--a mix of music with Indian/African-like beats. A little more up tempo to go with the fast pace of her instruction. When we had only a handful of people, we were treated to a quick lotion massage on our hands and neck areas.* Total Body Blast - Pretty good instructor. It was hard work and I think about 3 groups of workouts with 2 sets each. He wasn't very personal,  "great job, class" and addressed everyone at the same time. This was located in the basement of the Crystal Towers so it was cool temps. I felt a little sore the day after. Good danceable, singable pop music to keep me distracted from the burnnnnn.I had a negative experience at first because I went to the wrong location...but then I contacted them and they waived that class instead of counting it. I was more careful from then on. If you are regular enough you remember when the classes are anyway. Pretty good instructors, and their classes are a pretty good deal and especially convenient if you live in either of the two buildings.Street parking wasn't that difficult to find. More...

Sarah's power yoga is my everything. As someone with limited yoga background, I'm always apprehensive about going to a class. Will the teacher assume I know what poses she's talking about? Will I be asked to do poses I simply can't do? With Sarah my worries were for not. She starts the class slowly, building up to more complicated poses. In every instance, she explains how to move into a pose and usually demonstrates it as well before giving you the name of the pose. Even for beginners, you don't feel like you're behind or struggling to catch up. She'll offer modifications to make it more or less challenging, depending on your skill level. The class is relaxing, but I also come away feeling like I've accomplished something, and can often feel it in my muscles the next day. Bruce's bootycore is a very different style. Lots of squats, lunges, and planks, and Bruce doesn't take "I can't," as an answer. He corrects form but also pushes you. I haven't taken any of his longer classes, but this 30 minute class is a quick and dirty core workout that will leave you knowing that you did indeed work. The Zumba instructors have a TON of energy, and the other yoga instructors seem nice. Yes, the locations are in apartment buildings, and yes, you do need to leave yourself time to find them. However, every confirmation email and reminder email includes the specific location of the class and a link to detailed explanations of how to get to each location. In this area, space is extremely expensive, and I don't have a problem with a fledgling studio using what they can if the classes are good. You won't find a better blend of affordability and professionalism. I've been very pleased. More...

I just want to say something before I jump into rating Get Shaped Fitness, jump down to "My Review" if you want to skip this part: I am so tired of people rating a company based on their online deals. I'm sorry the deal didn't work well for you, I'm sorry you didn't read the fine print (which I did so I was totally aware of how much time I had to use my deal before it ran out), but these online deals through LivingSocial, Groupon, Amazon, etc. and their efficacy should not be the sole consideration for rating an establishment. What about the instructors? How were the actual WORKOUT CLASSES? Would you go back? Did you have a good experience? Okay getting off my soapbox now.My Review:Location is definitely hard to get a grasp on at first, and because of it I actually missed my first class because I didn't give myself enough time to figure it all out, and was trying to do it all on the fly, while driving. It was hectic but I called and apologized for missing the class and they were very generous in allowing me to take another class to replace it instead of losing it all together. The deal says right there in black and white that you have 60 days to fit in all your classes once you've booked/attended your first. Because I was aware of this stipulation, I went ahead and booked classes several weeks in advance (I've had to move it around a bit due to conflicts in scheduling but not much and it's forced me to go to class on nights I'd rather eat chocolate and watch TV). By my end date of Jan 9, which it clearly states on the website portal you must use to sign up for classes, I will have fulfilled my whole set of 15 classes and gotten well over my money's worth. The classes are great. I have mostly stuck to yoga since the thought of getting to attend yoga classes for $2/class pretty much blows my mind. But I did dabble in one of their fitness classes as well (Total Body Blast) and it was very challenging but the instructor, Bruce, was funny and told stories to keep your mind off the pain flowing through your body ;) I am halfway through my 15 class deal and have attended three different teachers' yoga classes thus far, plus one substitute teacher in training. They all have their own styles and they are all wonderful teachers:Jessica Pierno is opening her own studio in the spring and is the real deal. She knows how to talk you through correct postures and will ask you to try new things but never go beyond your comfort zone. She also makes herself available to students right after class for questions and help mastering a posture. She was putting someone into their first tripod headstand last night when I was on my way out.Sarah Nunes is great in many of the same ways that Jessica is. She's kind and a little silly so she'll make you laugh while you're doing a pose. She will switch things up in class, one day focusing on sun salutations and another day just stretching you out for a while so you can focus the majority of the class on  practicing headstands! Kristen Golden (I've only been able to take her class once as it's afternoon on Saturdays) knows her stuff. In that one class I took of hers she probably challenged me the most with her poses. We did headstand or tried it with no wall while she talked us through the proper alignment. We also did the archer pose, which I'd never done before. I thought it may kill me :) But it didn't, of course. All three teachers are highly qualified and I recommend any of their classes to anyone. This is a good deal, just remember to give yourself time to figure out exactly which building you should be in and read the fine print. Many people mention their surprise to find that the building was apartment buildings rather than a studio and I'd have to echo their surprise. However, I am used to it now and could care less. But the first impression was a little shocked to see what space we were using. I imagine this is a jumping off point for Get Shaped and they are building revenue to be able to afford their own studio but of course I don't know this to be a fact. I hope they are considering moving whenever they can. But for the price offered through the deal, you are not getting ripped off at $2 a pop. Finally a tip: building 2000 (half of the classes are held here, it's across Radisson hotel) has locked front entrance doors so either follow a resident in so they unlock it or use the doorbell to alert the lobby attendant to open the right door. I live in one of the buildings in which classes are held, so I didn't have the issue other reviewers had in finding the location.  I take primarily the yoga classes, but have sampled the BootyCore and the Zumba classes as well.  I really, really enjoy this place.  The instructors are great and help you through the classes if you need it (and help means both ensuring your form is correct and pushing you to do more).I didn't give it five stars because of a few minor inconveniences:1) No drop ins allowed -- you have to sign up or cancel at least an hour before the class.  I usually get home from work 30 minutes before class starts, so this has caused me a few problems.2) Price.  I think the prices are reasonable, but when they added more classes, they raised the cost per class.  Shouldn't it go the other way?3) Location.  Even though I do know how to get to the classes, it's sometimes difficult to keep all the rooms straight in my place. GSF is a place I tried because of a Groupon, but have stuck with it because of the great classes. More...

Updated review from 2015: Get Shaped Fitness classes are just great. The instructors are really what make the classes so great - I love them all. Sure, I've got my favorites, but they're all really well trained, personable, fun, flexible, and very very professional. I primarily attend yoga, but have tried out just about all of the classes. I am definitely someone who needs to be motivated by group fitness, and these classes do it for me. I've formed some really great friendships with the other students as well as the instructors and I've been extremely happy with the results. Review from 2013I've only been to three yoga classes so far, but it's been great! I live right in the building so it's super convenient, and it's very affordable. The class sizes have been on the larger side, so not too much personalized attention. I've had Sarah and Danielle as instructors, and they're both great. I'd say Sarah's class is a little bit less challenging, but that being said, you can always make yoga a bit harder for yourself. Danielle's class has a faster flow (hence the name, "Shape and Flow") and more challenging positions. It's true that it's not in a beautiful studio or anything, but it's fine! I don't go to yoga for the atmosphere, I go for the workout, and it's great. I bought a 5-class pass and Danielle's classes have gotten me to sign up for a monthly membership. I love it! More...

I live in Crystal City and first heard about Get Shaped Fitness through a great Amazon deal I purchased. I loved the yoga and zumba classes so much that I signed up for a membership! This has really helped me get in shape, and is much closer and I feel more personalized than going to a gym. The program brings instructors to the Crystal House and Crystal Towers buildings, which is super convenient living in the neighborhood. There are a number of folks from the neighborhood who come, and also people from Arlington and Alexandria. The zumba classes with Diana Bustamante and also Karen are so fun!! I had never been to zumba before this and quickly caught on and cannot believe how much I'm sweating while having so much fun. The power yoga with Liana Kachakhmadze is incredible - LOVE the atmosphere she creates with candles and music, and it really has pushed me to become stronger and more flexible. The other instructors, Jamie and Regan, also gives lots of personalized attention and customize the routines to fit your needs that day.Just a heads up - be sure to check the class location while booking, and you'll also need to bring your own yoga mat and towel.Would definitely recommend! I personally love their business model. The room we exercise in is clean, cool, and large, and it is just the class members rather than a gym full of folks. Bruce is the instructor (I take boot camp), and his workouts are the perfect balance between challenging and do-able (I am pretty fit - used to be a marathon runner and just a little out of shape post-baby).  He is tough but fun, and keeps the group together while helping individuals out at the same time.  The music he chooses is totally perfect for our workouts, and the routine is anything but.  each day is very different, and i am always the right level of sore after class (everything tired and sore, nothing injured).  I would recommend this to anyone. There is much that the previous reviewer said that is true - location is in the party room of an apartment building, no signs, bring your own equipment. But some things have changed since I started taking this class - there are now new instructors who are much more energetic and engaged, who check your posture and are very motivated to make sure you burn 700 calories at least per class. The exercises may be something you can do in your own gym, but the point of a boot camp class is that there is someone who is pushing you to keep going and push yourself further whenever you feel like stopping and taking a break. I get that from Total Body Blast, and it works for me. I think this would be a great way to work your way up to P90X or CrossFit workouts. More...
