The owner, Kate, was very accommodating when I had to make a last minute reservation for a wax service via yelp. I had told her that I have very low tolerance for pain and she had set me up with Natasha. Natasha was more than amazing and made sure I was completely spotless! I have been to many high end stylists in NYC and have never been 100% pleased with the results, until I found Jose Maria at this spa. .not only does does he know how to give you a very stylize haircut but what appreciate the most is his advise on what would bring your image to the next level and give you a full hair make over....He is very savvy on how to work with and treat all kinds of hairs being cognizant of utilizing the right type of product based on the nature of your hair, I came in with curly hair and left with advice and a haircut that i would have not imagine i would ever be able to get. Oh....my....God! To the extent that the barbaric act of ripping hair out of your skin could be gentle, this is the place and Ava is the miracle worker. I put off getting a much-needed Brazilian wax because of a traumatic experience I had with hard wax a little while ago where I had to stop after the first rip. But it was time and thanks to reviews by my wonderful sisters on Yelp, I decided to try GC salon. Best decision ever. Quiet room, candlelit, relaxing music in the background coupled with Ava's gentle manner made it a wonderful experience. Ava spent more time and was more careful with me down there than my dentist is on my teeth! It was so great that I decided to have my underarms waxed is well. I was sad because I didn't have  any place to wax so that I could continue this meditative experience. And there's a great package deal where each brazilian ends up being a little over $30.I was reluctant to share this. I didn't want it to be bombarded, but Ava and GC deserve to be shared with world! I went during NYC Spa Week for a haircut special and was absolutely blown away by how amazing Jose Maria Vazquez was!!  My hair is naturally very straight and flat and I've always wanted more volume and character.  Jose is the first stylist who was able to do that for me.  He is phenomenal!!  I was literally at a loss for words when I saw the final result.  My hair had volume and character and is so easy to style on my own.  I will definitely be back - the haircut was worth way more than the $50 I paid for it. I called GC salon because they have a great location that is very convenient to my office and port authority and public transit .  Also because their Yelp reviews were phenomenal , and they did not disappointCalled on very short notice via Yelp :  was able to get squeezed in , and made an booking with Natasha who stayed back later to meet the last sec appointment , which was very nice and appreciated Natasha was great and took her time , gave great service and was friendly .  I believe I met the owner and/or Manager named Kunal when I was paying .  Very nice and great customer service .  Salon is well maintained , clean, nice decor and looks to be very well run and operated !  They offer a lot of services , and will certainly come back again ! I love GC because I can usually get an appt pretty easily. I called to find out that my stylist left. They recommended Jose Maria for a cut so I decided to give him a try. In light of the unseasonably warm weather, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use my lunch break for a pedicure. I had originally dropped by on Tuesday to see if someone could take me as a walk-in, but did not know they only offered nail services Wednesday through Saturday. It wasn't a big deal and the employee at the desk (who was lovely) booked me for 2pm the following day for a "spa pedicure", which was the lowest price pedicure they offered. Please note that their spa pedicure is pretty much the standard pedicure everywhere else (polish removal, cuticles, scrub, callus filing, buffing, lotion, and then polish), so it was a little pricey at $40 compared to the $20-25 I've paid at other nearby salons. I was hoping that the quality would match the price tag (after a not-so-great pair of experiences at the Marilyn Monroe salon a stone's throw away, with a price tag that was double). The salon is very clean with bright blue walls and light coming in from the windows on 40th. The nail stations take up a very small portion nestled in a corner, but as I was the only customer having any nail services done, it was perfectly fine for me. :) The pedicure chairs are not the kind with the back massager like you may be used to, but they were comfy. The only thing about them I did not like is that you have to climb up onto a platform that's knee-height (for me, at 5'4"). I'm pretty agile, but I can see where some others might struggle. Getting down was a lot scarier with a little plastic step stool. I had such a great experience at the salon that it isn't worth docking a star, but I would suggest maybe at least getting a wooden step the width of the space to make it a little easier on customers. The only other knock against the salon is that there is a very small selection of nail polish, which was all Essie. A few of the colors I liked that were different than the plain red/pink/purple creme selection were mostly used up because of this.Minor negatives aside, Ava was incredibly sweet and meticulous. We chatted about everything from coffee to Baby Foot peels. The scrub, lotion, and massage were certainly more enjoyable than most salons that just slather it on and rub for 30 seconds on each side just to get it over with. Ava. Was. AWESOME.When she sat me down at the drier, I was super surprised when she started to massage my scalp, neck, and shoulders. I might have melted into my chair! I felt really relaxed during a workday, which is kind of an amazing accomplishment.Tl;dr - the higher price tag was worth it and I might just treat myself to one of the spa pedicures with a little something extra next time. I got a 1hr Swedish massage and 40 min facial with Natasha through a groupon deal and the whole experience was pretty relaxing. The staff were very friendly and the location is pretty convenient since it's close to a lot of subways. Maybe a minor con was the running sink that kinda disturbed the zen atmosphere while I was getting a massage and I could sometimes hear conversations outside the massage room. But these are small issues that I don't think could really be helped due to how the salon/spa is laid out.Overall if you're looking for a relaxing and friendly place to relax and aren't looking for anything too fancy then this is the pace to go. My brother and his girlfriend got me a gift certificate to GC Salon for Christmas a couple years ago, and I'm so glad they did. It quickly became my go-to for haircuts. Pricing is great (~$60), and Kim is the best--I have mild trichotillomania, and she's the first hairstylist I've felt comfortable explaining my uneven hair to. Also, I could die happily with her shampooing my hair :) I've also been for massages and facials thanks to their incredible sales, and I always leave happy and relaxed. The owner, Leeanne, is the sweetest. Even though I'm only in every few months she remembers me by name and asks about my new kitten. I will miss this place when I move to Chicago next month. This place is a true find. I had unexpected free time tonight on a work trip and found GC Salon and Spa through Yelp reviews. I called at 5 pm to see if there is anyway they had time for a facial before they closed at 7 pm. It had been years since I had one and it is rare that I find time to pamper myself so I hoped. Kim who answered the phone said of course and fit me in at 5:45. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner Leeanne who was so genuinely kind and attentive - made me feel like I was at home with my mom. Then, then wow!  I had the most amazing 1 hr and 15 min facial and massage with Ava. She works magic and I joked with her that I must've been snoring and drooling at the end. I work in the area and was looking for a place that I could go get my hair cut over my lunch break. It had been 6 months since my last haircut at another salon which I left a little scorned by the crazy price markup they pulled on me at the end. I looked around on yelp and found GC and decided to book. Their website said $65-75 for a wash and cut and it was perfectly within that range at the end. Additionally, the customer service was wonderful!When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and my coat was taken. I sat down while being brought a green tea and discussed what I wanted with my stylist, Kim. I told her that I needed a good trim but wanted to keep growing it as I'm getting married in 6 months and want to be able to have an elaborate updo. She double checked with me twice before cutting off the agreed upon length and, when she finished, my hair looked so healthy and shiny. No more scraggily split ends. In addition to a great cut, she was very charming to speak with. We laughed about wedding planning and action movies and, before I knew it, my appointment was over and I had to leave this cozy little space. I booked a wash, trim, and dry on their website and was able to get an appointment for Saturday (woo!) and at a decent time (double woo! ).  I had read in previous reviews that the location was difficult to find but didn't experience that at all.  When I arrived, the owner (I'm sorry I cant remember her name) greeted me and immediately offered coffee, water, tea, etc. She was very welcoming and friendly.  The salon itself was impeccably clean. The individual cutting my hair was Kim.  Kim asked what I was looking for with my haircut and I explained I wanted several inches off and a total restyle of my hair.  Before we got started, she warned that what I was requesting and what I actually booked online where slightly different in price and wanted to make sure I was okay with it.  This may seem like a no-big-deal scenario to some people but I was appreciative of her letting me know so that there were no surprises when I got to checkout. The products used and the haircut were all amazing! I have nothing but great things to say about this salon, the quality of the customer service, the quality of the haircut and the overall experience.  I will definitely be back and I would recommend GC to anyone looking for a convenient, friendly and high quality salon! Came in by recommendation from a friend and could not be any happier! The salon was clean and the staff was very friendly. I showed Kim a few pictures and then she proceeded to cut away. We chopped off about 12 inches in total. The cut is amazing and she gave me exactly what I wanted!!! Loved the Australian product they use too. The owner and every employee I interacted with were unbelievably friendly and accommodating, I called last minute to book a hot stone massage and was informed at the time of booking that they were actually offering a special on Swedish massages. I payed $59 for a one hour massage and I didn't have the highest expectations because of the price but I was pleasantly su rprised by the level of quality. Please be warned though, although it was not an issue for me, she was not shy about seeing my naked body. It was a different experience from what I am used to but in the best possible way. When they say full body they mean it, she even massaged my eyelids, she bent me and twisted me and stretched out every one of my achey muscles.
