I loved this place!! I was accidentally served the wrong order and I didn't notice. Jeff came over later with the right burger and comped me my order. Both burgers I had were very good! Gabe's has good beer and drinks. I go there on Tuesdays for their "Taco Tuesdays." Friendly staff and ok service. It's a good place to stop.

Just went in for a drink with some friends. The bar was busy because of a sports ball game but they accommodated the large corner booth for our group of 8. The server was sweet and didnt seem mad that we were in for "one and done". Beer menue was extensive and the food menu looked great. We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and kept driving by Gabe's, and tonight we finally decided to check it out. It seems really big from the outside, but inside it's got a great vintage vibe, with a large central bar surrounded by booths and a few rooms off of the main space which gives it less of a bar feel . I could tell after our first interaction with our server that the service wasn't going to be the fastest, but it was clear it's because she had a lot of tables. I have dietary restrictions and when I had questions about how things were prepared she didn't hesitate to go back into the kitchen to verify (much appreciated). We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer which were absolutely delicious and the basket was huge! You definitely get your money's worth here as they didn't skimp on any portion sizes with what we ordered. My husband got the Carolina reaper traditional wings which he said were fantastic, and I got their black bean burger which had tons of flavor, however sort of fell apart and was hard to eat. My husband got tater tots with his wings which were pretty bland and just lukewarm, but I got fries which were amazing - golden and crispy and perfectly seasoned. Along with the food, the atmosphere is just really endearing - kind of a divey vibe but also a place you could bring your family. We went on a Saturday and I believe it's an Iowa Hawkeyes bar so it was fun to be around football fans, but above that you could just tell that a lot of the people there were regulars and were just happy to all be together. Typical neighborhood bar. Local old guys at the bar during happy hour, then a younger crowd comes in. Always some really drunk people. The resteraunt area is wide open in the bar so very loud. Some of the food is really good, but most is typical bar food. You can always get some hot tater tots, kind of the lost art of spuds, that are very yummy. Tonight I had pizza fries with Italian sausage. They were good. Not set the world on fire good but good, and a large portion also. I couldn't even finish the order. Sausage was also good but over powering because there was too much of it. Garlic butter on the crust could have used more garlic or could have just been over powered by sausage. My son had cheeseburger and fries from the kids menu. He is a big eater but this was a snack after school and before an appointment. He couldn't finish the burger and fries either. Alright, I have come here a few more times, and I should update my review. I will add a star because I do enjoy Trivia, and that is why I keep coming back. Tuesday Night Trivia @ 8pm. The place is usually packed and somewhat hard to get a parking space, if you arrive just before Trivia. Recently I've ordered the Monster Nachos, and man they do not disappoint. I usually get them without Meat. Since I am a practicing Pescetarian. I do enjoy how they come with the fixings. Lettuce, Tomatoes, Black Olives, Onions and delicious Nacho Cheese. Most places when you order the Nachos without Meat they are bland, it's like the meat makes the nachos, and I appreciate this place for recognizing that doesn't need to be the case. I've had the Fried Pickles, Mac and Cheese and a friend once got the Buffalo Wings. He complained stating that even though they were good, not great. He remembers reading somewhere online that it was a pound of wings. I don't know where he got that, since I didn't look, but he was positive he read it somewhere and wanted the pound of wings. The bar get can a little loud and crazy at times during trivia, and it was unfortunate the bartenders didn't do anything about it, but thankfully the trivia host had the nerve to ask them to quiet down for a minute or two while she read a question. Did it work? No. But at least she tried. The bartender just laughed about it. Overall, the service has it's ups and downs, not each time is it the greatest, but I do enjoy Trivia, which is a 3rd party company so really I can't give Gabe's the credit, but I will give them the added star from my last review for the smarts they have for hosting Trivia. Not that Gabe's reads the review, but it would be a bonus if they had food or drink specials during Trivia, which as far as I know they don't. They have it before, and soon after. The group I enjoy playing Trivia with, we like to go home after Trivia. We don't want to hang around. More...
