About

I teach owners how to apply the latest scientific principles to training their dog. I also strive to make dog training fun for all involved, especially the dog! I started my business, Fun With Fido, after working in a shelter for 3 years and apprenticing with 2 other dog trainers.

Q&As

I started Fun With Fido from my belief that teaching dogs to be well-behaved should be both fun and effective. I was dismayed at how much old-style, punishment-based training I was seeing in my community. I teach with science-based methods that have been proven time and time again to work with all species for behavior change, sports, and connection.

I have been on both sides of zoom training. I regularly attend webinars and have worked under a Veterinary Behaviorist and a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant to hone my skills in the online forum. Meetings are held via zoom where I coach you on how to improve your dog's behavior.

All training takes place outdoors or online. For in-person training, masks are required unless proof of vaccination is shown. Although fully vaccinated, I will always wear a mask for your comfort and everyone's best protection.

Services

Help your puppy be the best s/he can be! Whether you need guidance with house training, socialization, teething, response to verbal cues or anything else, Fun With Fido can help! We have LOTS of experience playing with puppies and helping them understand the rules of sharing a human home.

Dogs jump up because it feels good and rewards them with the attention they get when they jump. Even negative attention can feel good to many dogs! I can help you teach your dog polite greetings that keep their paws on the floor where they belong. I train with fun games that help your dog understand the rules of sharing a human home.

Walking on leash is a skill that does not come naturally to dogs. Many dogs are in a hurry to get where they want to go, and often their people are moving "too slowly" for them, lol. I can help your dog understand that moving at your pace is more fun, more rewarding, than pulling like a freight train. It's all about keeping it fun and rewarding!

We all want a dog who reponds immediately when we call them to come to us. This can be accomplished by making coming to you super fun! Coming when called can also be lifesaving for your dog. My own dogs can be called off a squirrel in mid-chase (that's impressive)! With my help, you can teach your dog to come to you in response to both his name and your recall cue. We want your dog to LOVE coming whenever you call and regardless of what he is doing.

If you have a dog who missed out on appropriate socialization early in life, you may now have a dog who responds fearfully or with force when he sees something new or scary. Progress can be made with these dogs through a progressive program of counterconditioning, desensitization, and introduction to novelty. I can teach you how to help your dog conquers his/her worries!

Does your dog bark whenever someone comes to the door? When a car drives by? When someone passes on the sidewalk? When a leaf blows? Chances are your dog is worried about these things. I can help your dog understand that none of these things is cause for concern. Instead of barking, your dog will learn to find you in response to anything that causes anxious barking.

As a handicapped trainer, I fully understand what it takes to assess and train your dog for service dog work. I've helped many people teach their dogs service dog skills as well as training my own dog for this work.

First step is to assess the suitability of your dog as a potential service dog. Next, we'll want to ensure that your dog feels comfortable and confident in all environments in which they'll be expected to work. Finally, I can help you train the two assistance tasks that your dog will need to fully qualify as a service dog.

I use purely positive methods that encourage bonding and cooperation. Happy to answer any questions you may have prior to making a hiring decision.
