What a loss to the community! Such a great brunch/lunch spot. Great food, wonderful staff, I will miss them all.

See you later After more than 12 years feeding us, Fresh Start will be closing their doors in a few days. Their building was sold and their lease will end. They are finishing the month strong and then will look to the future, which we hope includes feeding the Sarasota community again. Our lunch today was excellent, they are still focused on the job at hand while also expressing their thanks to all the regulars who have supported them. I picked their Corned Beef Reuben and it was flavorful with their high quality meat and mild kraut. We should have visited more often. More...

Everything is great in this place; service, food and location. Tried the Breakfast Sandwich and the Pumpkin Spice Muffin, both delicious. Coming back again soon.

Cute outdoor seating, friendly people, but the food was lacking any flavor / seasoning

This was a surprise! We were recommended by someone we met in the street (they liked my T-shirt). The food here was amazing, the fruit cup was simply the freshest presentation and tasteful I've ever had. The eggs were cooked to the specifics I requested. We would not have found this place if it hadn't been recommended to us - but so very glad we did! More...

Always a treat. Love how they created a patio between a sidewalk and a parking lot yet made it inviting. The food is excellent. The menu choices are great The staff takes good care of you. No wonder there's always a line - and worth the wait! More...

Highly recommend the lemon, ricotta pancakes. The chickenchanga was different just ok. Ambience excellent for breakfast or brunch. Service was very good. There is a wait to get in but worth it! More...

Fresh Start is a must try!! My parents picked me up from the airport to bring me here and I was not disappointed- we sat outside on the patio which is guarded from the street with a wall of trees! I had the shakshuka which was INCREDIBLE! I haven't had shaksuka since I was in Israel and this rivaled the meal I had at THE shaksuka restaurant!! The skug hot sauce was incredible and getting to hear the waiters Israeli accent was a treat for sure - I can't wait to go again on my next trip!! More...

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I tried ordering food to go a little bit ago because I was really hungry and I try ordering a breakfast sandwich and they inform me that it will be a long wait. I didn't mind waiting so I told them I'll just come back for it. The chef then storms out of the kitchen to yell at me and ask me why I don't want a muffin or something easy like a soup. If you can't make a sandwich then don't be a chef, simple. I understood that they were busy, but to go orders are just as important as in house orders. Working in the restaurant industry you think the chef would understand that. But no, she just wants to be angry and scream at the customers who put money in her pocket because she couldn't give me one of her stale muffins instead. Worthless place, and the sandwich also tasted bad. She does not deserve to work in a place where her colleagues are so kind. She deserves to work at McDonald's. More...

This place is incredible. They offer a wide variety of dishes. Many are healthy and all are delicious. We had a group of 10 people which they somehow found a way to seat us all inside on a busy Sunday morning. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. There is plenty of parking and the outside area is so nice. Sure beats a bagel place. More...

We love this cafe! They have amazing pastries and many of them are gluten free. I especially love the GF muffins and they change everyday. The burekas are amazing and are not to be missed. I usually get a frittata. Everything is fresh and prepared to order. The shakshuka is also very good. The salads are delicious but sometimes too much food for me. My partner loves the sandwiches. Sitting outside in the beautiful garden is such a treat. The servers are friendly and always chat us up. Sometimes the owner/chef/pastry chef Hannah delivers food and it's nice to be able to thank her directly. In a city with a lot of good breakfast places, this is a do not miss! More...

I wish I could have taken a photo of the food but I was late for work and had to get my stuff put in a to go box bc it took forever to get seated and get food. I was there at 11:05 am and didn't get my food until 12:05pm. It was just me by myself. They did an amazing job but they definitely need more seating . I really wanted to sit outside but inside was fine bc they had the doors open and it felt amazing. It's a very small location but very busy. The coffee was great and the little cookie was so tasty. Everything I had was delicious but I was just disappointed about the long wait. More...

Dog friendly and good fresh coffee. The shortbread served with coffee is a nice touch. Food is all good, we especially like the shakshuka, and the (on the side) spicy pepper aioli.

What a cool little place! Was in the area for an appointment and needed to grab some thing pretty quick for breakfast when we found this place. Tons of healthy options, and then lots of sweets as well. Employees were just super friendly and informative. Frittatas are made in a skillet without oil or butter, and come out very fluffy and delicious. My coffee came with a side little cookie...... come on who doesn't love a little surprise like that! You have a choice of a little side salad or a fruit salad. I mean look at that fruit salad, look at the colors! They take their time to make it a visual experience as well as tasting great! This little corner place definitely exceeded my expectations. I actually had one regret I ordered jalapeños in my frittata, then found out after that they make their own Israeli hot sauce, almost paste like with jalapeños. Let me tell you it is awesome, it is heat with lots of flavor! Definitely perfect on the frittata! Who would ever want bottled hot sauce when they're making something fresh like that. This is the detail that this place has, if it was closer I would be back regularly. Oh yeah and they make strawberry butter, I did not think this was going to go well; however I was very mistaken because it was delicious on that fresh bread! More...

We're BACK!!! To update my review (we went for lunch instead last time and it was very good - see review here somewhere and pictures) and so we came back before 11 am or 11:30 am for breakfast! !! Why?? ...... ============== What's UP? ======== review down below============ Fresh Start is our 21st entry in the Quest for the TOP THREE great Eggs Benedict / Breakfast spots in the Sarasota, Vamo, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice corridor. Eggs Benedict w/Ham, Florentine, or specialty (seafood, veggies, corned beef/hash, or others) and hash browns/potatoes and grits are the sides. We will narrow it down to top 3 in a few weeks and re-visit them and win, place, & show those finalists. (we are getting a bit fatter, I am not sure how many more we can try out) The Breakfast Cottage 6 Eggstraordinary Café BLVD Café Max's Table Willow's Café Toasted Mango Café Anita's Restaurant Blu Island Bistro Word of Mouth The Breakfast House Sun Garden Café Sunnyside Café Rosemary & Thyme Millie's Restaurant The Reserve Retreat Café Evergreen Another Broken Egg Café Green Zebra First Watch Station 400 Fresh Start ================== review here below ================== Seated fairly quickly considering the place was packed. A group of 7 sucked down 'waiting' chairs and a table, but we were quickly accommodated. NO problem. OH still got a parking spot in their lot.....FREE and safe in Sarasota. (make me happy and sets the tone - I hate paying for parking or getting tickets) Our server was prompt and pleasant. Coffee and waters never past half full or room temp. Powerful brew.....note to self go easy and I won't start perspiring and twitching from the caffeine!!! A small pecan or almond cookie is a nice touch. My wife got the ShakShuka which is Israeli poached eggs in tomato sauce served with a chopped salad (you can get fruit) & bread (pita). There was a nice an powerful hot sauce that was pretty nice and flavorful. She like the tomato sauce and the salad got a few mmms and yummy scores. Pita was also seconds fresh and very nice. OF note because we are doing "Eggs Benedict" and the like with poached eggs.....the eggs are a primary criteria. This dish was wonderfully cooked and the sauce was great....however it was SO nice and hot when the probably perfectly cooked poached eggs were added.........the yokes were SOLID and hard boiled when they were being eaten at the table?? They got overcooked from the kitchen to the table. (I have no idea what the solution is for this. maybe floating the pita bread in the middle and putting the egg on top of it so it does not take on any more heat??? Or maybe on the side to be added tableside?? Or cooked (undercooked) and hope for a soft poached eggs result? My poached eggs with spinach on a slice of marble rye 'toast' bread with hollandaise sauce was my closest to Eggs Benedict entry as I could find. Almost a Florentine without a tomato or etc. No ham option which I would like to suggest as 'traditional' (I did see ham on another egg option so its in store. Lox is just not a choice for me as a fish and egg deal has not been agreeable to my palate. Prosciutto also not comparable to a Canadian ham either) So the eggs were poached and PERFECT!!!!! The spinach steamed/sauté lightly and was also great. The hollondaise sauce was tasty but not sour tangy as many are. A VERY respectable sauce!!! My only gripe is that the 'marbled rye toast' bread was NOT toasted, but simply a very nice sliced soft bread. Awesome for a Rueben or some other great sandwich but at the bottom of wet spinach, egg and juices, and a hollandaise sauce, it became a wet bread paste and there was a fairly thick and large slice to boot. I would have preferred two TOASTED English muffins OR half the 1 inch thick bread slice of this marbled rye and then TOASTED IT so the spinach and eggs and hollandaise sauce sat on top. so on the poached eggs/eggs benedict scale its a 7/10. A nice product and a very good effort!!! These guys are on the best of list for breakfast and lunch if in the Sarasota downtown area. Give them a try for breakfast OR lunch it's a winner!!! More...
