I am not a mechanic but I work on my own vehicles. When it comes to doing repairs, I've employed the same strategy for 20 years. There is one junk yard that is consistently brash, condescending, and dickish if you call without a complete understanding of the problem. I always start with a phone call to them and I fill the call with every dumb question I can possibly think of. As a rule, nothing is too dumb. Because the dumber they think I am, the more angry they get. And the more angry they are, the thicker the condescension and the more they will correct me during the call. Their poor service is so consistent that someday I may send them a Hallmark card that says: "I get it. You know a lot about cars." I usually use that phone call to learn the specialized vocabulary that I need to know to sound moderately educated on the topic before making the next call to a yard that I generally like dealing with. By the time I get to them, I've got the mechanic's vernacular in-hand to ask the right questions and get substantive answers. I've visited a mechanic three times in two decades, so the payoff on this strategy is pretty good.Today I started plumbing in drain pipes for a new bathroom I am building. I am not a plumber. I know nothing about drains. I figured I would take the same approach and started with a supply house that I just happened by. I unexpectedly struck gold. Flink Supply Co. not only took the time to teach me what I needed to learn, but also helped me solve problems that they expected I would encounter during the job. My questions were elementary (and probably beyond obvious) to a master plumber, but a significant hill for me to climb in taking on the project. Good teachers are rare. They are even more rare (and valuable) on a sales staff. Recommended is an understatement. What an unexpected awesome experience! I called Flink because of the reviews, to compare against online prices. I emailed Jake a list of what I needed and asked for his price on one thing, just so I could compare. Jake emailed me back with his prices on all of the items even though I only asked him to price one. Most if not all the prices were on par or better than what I found online, I was sold! I went into the store, which is located in an industrial area of town and seemed to be a place that tradespeople buy from rather than the public (felt a little out of place to be honest). I walked in not expecting much and was treated with a level of professionalism, respect and kindness rarely seen. Who knew buying plumbing supplies could be such an awesome experience! I am really impressed by Flink Supply's customer service! I was trying to solve a plumbing issue and spent countless hours trying to find the right part online. The process was frustrating, so I decided to contact a local plumbing supply company to get advice. I found Flink Supply on Yelp and gave them a call. Trent answered the phone and I explained my situation. He knew exactly what I needed and had it in stock! He said to bring the parts I had to the store and we'll see it if works. When I got to the store, Trent was busy with another customer. However, Shawn was happy to help me. I showed him all the parts I had and what I was trying to accomplish. Trent heard our conversation, politely excused himself from his customer, and set the part I needed on the table. As soon as I saw it I knew that was it! In addition, there was a 2nd issue I was trying to solve. Shawn looked at what I had and handed me another part - one I had been looking for forever. It was like winning the plumbing lottery. I installed all of the pipes today and it worked beautifully. These guys are fantastic.I'm usually intimidated by supply shops, but these guys made me feel comfortable and talked me through the whole process. Flink was amazing!! When I needed to replace my toilet ASAP, I found out it was an extremely rare rear drain and the big home improvement supply stores had zero inventory. I was looking at a 2 week delivery so I called the specialty shops, and it was the same story. That was until I called Flink and talked with Trent. He was incredibly helpful and worked hard to find the necessary pieces around Colorado.
