Mike was such an amazing addition to our wedding. My husband and I decided we wanted to have an afternoon reception in Venice. Originally we'd planned on playing music from an iPod/Sonos. But, my husband heard Mike play out and knew his vibe would be perfect for our day. We didn't want a "wedding DJ". None of the corny music or line dances most people think of. We recently got married and as the groom I was put in charge of one thing, and really one thing only, the Music.  Everyone, and I mean everyone, at our wedding of 130 people said Exxxplosivo killed it. Our Los Alamos wedding hit a cold weekend where the outside temp dropped to the low 50's...but the outdoor dance floor was packed all night long!!!  The weather had become a big concern and we were worried and had even considered moving music inside.  Mike (Exxxplosivo) just rolled with the punches. We initially said we weren't going to do a song for the Grand Entrance, and then changed our minds last minute - I mean as we were about to walk out last minute - and he pulled a perfect one from thin air.  Throughout the night he followed and stayed connected to the energy of the crowd not just playing a predetermined set.  And at one point, he saw that a mood shift needed to occur and went up to my lovely new wife and said, "how do you feel about Madonna?" then dropped "Like a Prayer" for all the ladies on the dance floor!  It was a true Mr. Miyagi moment that I would have never seen coming, and I don't even really like that song, but it kicked up the energy another notch and no one ever felt cold on the dance floor that night. When I tell people that I was put in charge of music, they say, "well that's easy, you hire the DJ and it's done." But for me it wasn't that easy, I like all kinds of music, and then I absolutely hate some as well.  I called Mike on the phone to discuss my musical tastes, and he suggested I share some examples of playlists I had on Spotify.  Over 2 quick conversations, Mike had quickly eased me into knowing I made the right decision to hire him.  We stayed in touch about music over email and I knew our wedding music was in the right hands.So, if you ask me if I would recommend Exxxplosivo DJ's and Mike Bocek, the answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY! I highly recommend Mike if you're looking for an experienced DJ to bring the crowd to their feet at any wedding. He was recommended to us by a friend and we couldn't be happier with his services. He is a professional, tall, trusting, dapper man and is very accommodating and attentive to what the bride and groom want played at their wedding. Mike is an experienced DJ who frequently plays at LA bars, clubs, restaurants, namely Wurstkuche. His equipment is top notch and you can trust him to be ready to go once he arrives at your venue. He also has a popping SoundCloud page you should check out if you need more convincing. We met with him one many months before our wedding and came out very confident with our choice. Our wedding crowd had a mix of people in their teens, 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s, etc. so we knew we needed a balanced mix to cater to everyone. Since Mike is a pro he navigated that really well on our big day. The seniors had their salsa/ballroom music, and the kids had their modern/90s hip hop, edm, pop jams. Overall everyone was on their feet most of the night and had a great time. Now he's booked for my sister-in-law's wedding later this year. Can't wait to dance to the tunes of DJ Exxxplosivo again! One night I was eating at Wurstkuche in Venice and was really enjoying the music, a night where you are Shazaam-ing every other song. Decided to go up to the DJ and introduce myself, enter Mike. I ended up reaching out to Mike to DJ a LACMA Avant-Garde holiday party (lacma.org/avant-garde). Unfortunately, he wasn't able to DJ for us, but he recommended his friend Tessa Young. Mike DJ'd our wedding a few weeks ago, and he did an amazing job.  He got the whole crowd dancing to classic and modern music. It was such a blast! Mike is an awesome dj! We used him for our wedding this month and couldn't be happier. All our guest complimented how great our dj was too! He played a good mix of music for the younger and older crowd.We did provide him with some requests, though. But he really got everyone up and dancing! He also did our music for the ceremony. Mike is the best!!! He DJ'd our wedding and we received so many compliments on him - great mix of current, indie and classic music with stuff that the older crowd liked too. Everyone was dancing and all joined into a chorus of "One More Song" at the end of the night!  He made our wedding a blast!!What's even better? He recorded all of the audio from our event so I now have an awesome playlist of every song played at our wedding with the audio from the grand entrance, speeches, etc. Hands down my favorite DJ...EVER! Mike DJ'd our wedding a few weeks ago and totally killed it! His fun and energetic vibe and music selection kept the whole night super fun. His collection of music is huge and he plays songs, remixes, and blended music that I can promise you've never even heard! I've been to weddings where the DJ was bored and uninterested, and when they would actually start to play good music, they would cut the songs short to start another song. So annoying. I was the photographer at a wedding here in Colorado recently and Mike was the DJ. Not only did he play great music, but more important to me, is that the vows during the ceremony sounded great, everyone could hear every word. What's even better is he recorded the ceremony audio. The most creative at blending music!!    I'm such the DJ snob, so I was extremely impressed at Mike's mixing. Mike DJ'd for my friends, Danny & Steve's wedding.   NOt only does he have a HUGE inventory of the best dance music, but even my boyfriend who is not into music said "wow, he's mixing 3 songs at a time!"  but it was so smooth that every song was danceable.  'The only reason I would stop dancing is because my old knees couldn't support me. LOL.     From the pre-wedding social gathering, to the ceremony, then to the dance floor... When it came time to pick a DJ for my wedding, I hopped on to Yelp and did my research. Once I read the reviews and had my initial conversation with Exxxplosivo, I didn't even consider anyone else since I knew he'd be the best man for the job. We played mood music for an hour prior to the wedding, which made our outdoor wedding venue come alive, and our guests happy.We had a song for our best man and maid of honor to walk to, and when it came time for my now husband and I to walk down the path to the altar with a different song, Mike transitioned the song seamlessly. The wireless lapel pinned mic he provided our officiant never had any feedback with the standard wireless microphone that was passed to each of us during our vows. And Exxxplosivo hit the mark on our exit song as soon as we were introduced. The mix of music before the dancing started was awesome, and once the dancing began, the dance floor was never empty. Mike has a way of keeping people out there. All of our guests told us that Exxxplosivo was the best DJ they have ever heard, and we agree! We hired Exxxplosivo to play our company Halloween party. He arrived early, had all his own gear, and even dressed up for the occasion, which I LOVED. But most importantly, he played AWESOME music. Mike was the DJ at my wedding and he was awesome!! He answered my emails promptly and was great at communicating with me during the wedding to adjust to the schedule when things ran a little late. He helped move things along and came up to me asking me what I wanted to do when things got sidetracked. He was very flexible and cool! There were some issues with the microphone during the speeches but that seems to be a technical issue. The only thing is I wish I could have enjoyed the music more and danced more but I was talking to all my guests. I wish the night would have lasted longer. Raddest. Wedding. DJ. Ever. Actually I should say Mike is more of a rad DJ who happens to also do weddings. If you are looking for a dance party, you will get a dance party. Finding the perfect DJ for our wedding was one of the most important things to us. Our wedding was a year ago and our guests are still talking about how much fun they had. Our dance floor was packed all night long. We had to actually kick everyone off to do the father/daughter dance. He made everything so easy for us since we didn't want to spend too much time making a playlist. We basically told Mike what we liked and he did the rest. We had so much fun! 6 Oct 2012 - Santa Barbara WeddingWe found Mike through some film industry friends.  Multiple sources with very different backgrounds -- same advice each time:  hire Mike!  Given that it was our wedding and all -- we met with him, checked refs, everything -- a full vetting.  And everyone, everyone confirmed what we learned that night -- this guy is great!  Yes he met with us.  Yes he listened to us.  Yes he was professional.  BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY he made the night.  His music sets and the mood were just so on point.  He got what we both were after and plussed it!  Everyone from British tastemakers, to Brooklyn hipsters, to headz made comments on his music.  He played a cocktail hour, a dinner and a dance floor set---each was fresh and new.   I'm not really one for reviewing or yelp -- i just don't have time.  But in this case, I'm so grateful, I can't type enough love into it.  Trust me,  Hire Mike! Mike Bocek saved the day!!  My husband & I were kind of a mess in the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding and we still didn't have a DJ.  We'd been looking for one for months, but as you know, there are sooo many cheesy DJs out there.  We just didn't like anyone.  Then, through a brilliant referral, we found Mike.  He was absolutely perfect.  My husband and I are kinda opposites when it comes to music (he's super obscure indie & i'm 80's rock + hip hop).  Mike found a way to please both of us AND all our guests.  He killed the cocktail hour and created an amazing vibe throughout our dinner.  His set after dinner had e v e r y o n e on the floor.  My only gripe is that he didn't get to spin longer (and that was because of our venues curfew).  Save yourself the trouble in looking around.  Just. Mike Bocek a.k.a DJ THC Electra was as professional as they come.My wife and I were looking for a DJ who would be able to read the room and roll with it. If I wanted a DJ to only play the songs I put on a playlist I would have brought my iPod. We wanted someone who could get the party going, and then keep it going, and he did just that.We met with Mike a couple of months prior to the wedding and went through the logistics of the venue and schedule. We gave him a couple of 'must-plays' and a nice list of 'never-plays' and then said 'do your thing'He even put together a 4 hour playlist for us to play in a separate greeting/older folks room. It was great and I still put on when I need a nice, chill, but sweet mix.He's a tall guy and hard to miss, but he fit in great in a stylish suit and hat and I can't stress enough how much fun our friends had dancing the night away. High heels were off, brows were getting sweaty and never was the dance floor empty. Seriously.We got (and still get) comments about how much fun everyone had and how good the DJ was.To those poor folks who had a bad time, I don't know what to say. The DJ you describe is unrecognizable from the one we had. we hired mike to DJ our wedding this summer and had an absolutely fantastic experience.  he had his finger on the pulse of the party from the start and kept the dance party going until they threw us out. i want to start out by saying that my wife and i are not a type A couple.  we had our wedding at a slightly unconventional venue, and put our trust in the people we'd hired to make our wedding happen and were never sorry once.  mike and i sat down a couple months prior to the wedding and he helped us sort out all of the key songs we'd need to pick, and had some really helpful suggestions.  we made a couple sample playlists for him of our favorite tunes of the moment, and talked about the vibe we were looking for together, and he did a great job seeing it through.  our wedding was also very technical for a DJ because each part of the wedding took place in a different space at the venue, and it went flawlessly.  he played an awesome live set during dinner that was mellow but very interesting with a lot of cool new takes on some familiar tracks.  the dance party was absolutely amazing.  we had comments from guests young and old about how great the set was and how lively mike was able to keep the party.  did i mention we danced for six straight hours until they had to throw us out?mike is definitely the DJ for you if you're looking for a fun, lively dance environment.  he spins a huge selection of great remixes on the most current tracks, and has a great catalog of classics to mix in, but you should know what you're getting.  he's not your classic cheesy wedding DJ.  if you're looking for someone to MC the party and play your itunes playlist, your money is best spent elsewhere.  if you want someone that is going to adapt constantly to the party vibe, spin an awesome selection of tracks you haven't heard of yet mixed with your favorites, and keep the dancing lively all night long, he's your man. DJ THC Electra, aka Mike Bocek, was definitely worth every penny!   We hired him for our wedding and couldn't have been happier.  We only had one initial meeting and I knew immediately that he was our dude.  We wanted a DJ we didn't have to give a playlist to or no play playlist to. Wedding planning is time consuming enough, I didn't want to have to think of songs to play on our special day.  NO TIME, man!  I wanted someone that could read our vibe and also feed off the crowd.During our meeting, i gave him some ideas of what current artists we listen to and what makes our booties shake, because the two are kinda different from each other.  From that, who knew exactly what our musical taste was.  My now husband and I LOVE music and are a little more eclectic than our family and friends, indie, electro, folk, funk, brazilian beat, disco.  But Mike knew how to make everyone happy.  He played stuff I've never heard before and loved, cover tracks that were amazing (i love cool covers), and he even played a little achy breaky heart as requested by our relatives.  Let's just make them happy :).  But it was cool that he came up to me and asked me first if he could.Mike is a cool dude!  Great at his job.  Professional all the way and showed up extra early to set up.  He has all the tools needed and doesn't charge extra for lights or anything.  I even had guests ask me later..."what was that song your DJ played?"...just really unique and bumping stuff.   I would recommend him to anyone and use again in the future.  You really can't go wrong with him.  JUST BOOK HIM ALREADY! Thanks, Yelpers! My husband and I found Mike through Yelp, when the DJ search for our wedding was turning up a ton of duds. Once we met with him, we knew we had found our guy, and we were right.We told Mike in our meeting that, above all, we just wanted someone who could read the crowd and keep the party rockin'. Of course, we still stressed and agonized over "do not play" lists and guidelines about what we wanted and didn't want for the night. Mike graciously listened to everything we had to say and filed away all of our frantically emailed requests.In the end, we should have just relaxed and trusted that Mike had our backs. DJ THCelectra, aka Mike Bocek, brings the party.  He did our wedding in Manhattan Beach a few weeks ago and absolutely crushed it.  First off, he's super professional.  After exchanging emails, he invited us to a Dj set at the the Standard's pool deck downtown.  We chatted about our wedding details. He took notes and gave us a couple of his recent mixes CDs that were awesome.       Secondly, he's got an amazing ear for music. As the wedding got closer, we kept checking out his amazing website with all of his incredible collections that he's put together.   He's a cut above, and it's really evident when you check out his site.  Combining familiar party-starters with the obscure twists to keep an interesting is a true art, and Mike is a master at it.Third, the guy is super collaborative.  As good as he is at digging for the greatest stuff for every occasion, he is also incredibly collaborative.  We had a wedding party that was largely from the midwest, and we requested that he keep things pretty accessible.  Well, he was able to do both.  It was awesome.  Couldn't have asked for a better DJ for an unforgettable night. Mike recently DJ'd (is that the right term?) our wedding and did an awesome job!  He is definitely the guy to go to if you want a cool "outside-the-box" wedding.  Mike stuck right to my rule:  No songs that have the instructions on how to dance to them in the lyrics to the song!!!  Think about it carefully and it rules out a ton of the crappiest songs ever created.I've always been very picky about music (I do reviews for a prominent online music blog), and I didn't even have to lay down any stiff guidelines.  This was essential because we certainly didn't have the time (and neither will you...mark my words!!!!) to hold a DJs hand and make sure he shared in our "aural vision" (whoa).  We met with Mike once, he totally picked up on what we were going for, and knocked it out of the park on the big day.  Now clearly Mike did a great job with the music, but being a professional wedding DJ (he also does clubs, bars, lounges, etc. so no velvet suit and jerry curl here...haha) is way more than that.  Our wedding ceremony was on the beach, not easily accessible, and with the backdrop of splashing waves.  He slogged all of his equipment into the sand, set it up perfectly and had everyone hearing every precious, memorable word, even in the face of hurricane-force winds.  The one question I asked everyone after the ceremony was, "Could you hear everything all right " Everyone said yes.From there, he had to drag his gear up to the reception hall--which was even more awkwardly situated--and set everything up for the *immediately* following cocktail hour and reception.  Mike nailed it all  flawlessly.  The reception was a huge hit with Mike really taking the music exactly where I hoped it would go (and democratically dealing with some of my more "opinionated" family members).It's one thing to have a DJ who can follow a playlist and go when and where you tell him, it's another to have someone who can roll with the punches, fix problems, improvise, and use his head when things don't go exactly to plan (guess what, young couples, they won't!!!).  A lot of the other reviews further reinforce how Mike's ability to think on his feet and "protect the flow" essentially saved their wedding.I am a huge music psycho, and the DJ was my biggest concern about the whole event.  I am 100% glad I went with Mike because he took so much of the headache out of the process and kept it wicked fun! Mike DJ'd our wedding earlier this month and we (my husband and I) both agree he does a very good job of reading the crowd.  He is also incredible in that he is extremely loyal to his clients -- he checked in with us a few times for "permission" to play songs that might have been borderline cheesy or just plain horrible!  He has the most incredible selection of covers I've ever heard that was perfect for during dinner.  I can't wait for a copy of the playlist it was seriously that good!  Mike's also super easy going and good in a pinch - he was able to track down our first dance song with little notice.  Would for sure recommend him - and actually, some friends who were at our wedding are already talking about booking him for their wedding next summer they had so much fun!!  I'd say that pretty much speaks for itself as far as reviewing him goes! LOVE Mike!  I actually found him originally through Yelp among a handful of great reviews - and he did not disappoint!  He played a great mix of music, and kept the party going all night long - the dance floor never slowed.  Such a pleasure to work with and very professional - and the kind of guy you want to join the party.  He even went out of his way to stop by our hotel after the wedding and drop off my sister's camera and a few other odds and ends left at the venue which was SO nice, and sent us home with some great tunes for our drive up to Santa Barbara.  I'm so happy he was a part of our wedding and would hands down recommend him to others looking for a dj for their upcoming event. First off, Mike saved my life at my wedding. Well sorta, but basically. Check me taking portrait pictures 15 mins before I walk down the aisle and my coordinator coming up to me and telling me my ceremony musician thought the wedding was the following day. ..Before I had time to freak out on everyone and drive to the musician's place and bomb his house DJ THC Electra was taking care of it!!!!He was overall incredibly professional, stuck to the few rules I gave him (no "wedding" music, played the must-play songs), he was a great MC as well, and he got up and danced a bit! Very creative in his music, he just has some sixth sense about it all.Everything went off without a hitch and sooo many people said it was the most fun wedding they had been to. People of all age groups were jammin' all night long. My step-mom even asked my dad to dance, which is unheard of! It was a perfect time overall. More...

OK, Seriously...DJ Mike Bocek is not only the best DJ but he will become your best friend! I read about Mike on Yelp and It just so happened that he was the DJ at our engagemnt party at "WurstKuche" downtown LA. It knew it was a sign! So I contacted Mike and he was really cool from the get go! As soon as I decided to book him for my may15, 2010 wedding we became instant pen pals going back and forth about music and details about our big Day. He's pretty busy so make sure to confirm all appointments with him. I do this with all my vendors anyways. We met over coffee in Hollywood to describe the vibe we wanted and more important...didn't want. I met with Mike one more time right before the wedding and he printed out my list of DO's and Don'ts and managed to set up his DJ booth the day before. He had two stations so that he could bounce inside and out of our 2 party rooms. He did have a few technical difficulties but I was impressed with how he dealt with them very quickly and profesionally. Mike went on into the late hours and really got the crowd going~!  Dancing and he even played a few more songs after they cut him off! It was awesome! Mike is a lifer! and I can't wait to use him at another party!He DJ's at Adam Sandler's Xmas party every year so that's gotta stand for something, right? Also make sure to always be specific! Even though Mike is an amazing DJ it's always important to be SPECIFIC with music, timing, microphone, and lighting so you get exactely what YOU want. Do your homework and make sure you are organized!(That is just the way I like to do things and it calms me to have all my ducks in a row) Hire him for your wedding!!!! It was a time of darkness... a time of holy-crap-we're-gonna-end-up-with-some-cheesewad-who's-gonna-wanna-let-the dogs-out and our reception is going to land on page one of "The History of Suck"!  Then, stepping out of the fog of lame came Mr. DJ THC Electra!  Electra -- aka Mike -- was all of this and more:Professional - Creative - Thoughtful - Friendly - On Point - Wily - FunMy beef with most DJs?  They think they're too cool for school.  Well, Mike is cool, but also ready for class.  He worked overtime with us to craft an evening of Indie-New Wave-Classic Rock-Folk-Funk that had our guests up off their duffs in a hurry.  We are extremely anal about our music, and Mike played ball, spinning everything from '60s French Pop to Van Halen to a choice cut from the Mary Poppins soundtrack.  Since the big night we've been slammed with hugs and high-fives over our DJ selection!  Thanks again, Electra!!! Mike aka DJ THC Electra was an absolute pleasure to work with, he was friendly, funny and had a great taste in music. People were up and dancing even before dinner was served. He took requests and was willing to go with the flow of the evening with no problems. After the older folks left is when the party really started to get under way. All the 20 and 30 somethings were up and dancing right up until midnight when the music had to be turned off.
