Q&As

Watching owners find a new sense of purpose in their relationship with their dogs.

My name is Swetha Menon and I created Everyday K9 Solutions because I was having a hard time finding a place I felt good about working at. I have been in the dog training industry for four years now, and the pet care industry for five. I’ve worked under trainers with a variety of methods, ideologies, and training models; as well as worked with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments, ranging from service dogs, to behavioral euthanasia aggression cases.

The exposure I had to the way that different facilities have been run has shown me things that I like, and things I don’t like. Some of these things are deal breakers for me. So for the previous six months leading up to the launch of EK9S, I took a break from training while I searched for the place I felt good about working at while also being compensated well enough to support myself. Turns out that the pickings are slim.

So that’s how Everyday K9 Solutions was born. It is so important to me that as a trainer, my core values are being upheld in my work. Training is nothing without transparency and sustainability, and if I can’t have those things then I don’t want to train. I am not in the business to get results at the expense of the dog, or the owner. It is my prerogative to work closely with my clients in order to create a support system to help them maintain the life they want to live with their dog. Dogs are individuals, and different people have different goals and lifestyles. My training philosophy mirrors the flexibility that is needed to adapt to people’s unique needs.

We put the dog's needs first, but we don't forget about who's on the other side of the leash. We believe that it's equally important to listen to the client's needs as much as it is to cater to the dog's needs.

As we are right now, the company does not make a profit as our priority is to make sure that our trainers are paid well, and that they have the equipment, continued education, and support that they need in order to keep our practice ethical and sustainable.

We offer virtual training and have different packages to choose from. Virtual clients receive the same written and video material as our in person clients.

Services

Private lessons are for the owners that want to be involved in every step of the training process. You will be working with your trainer who will not only be teaching your dog, but teaching you as well. Training only sticks if it carries over into the home and as dog trainers it is our job to help put you on the right track to get to your goals. We want to help you achieve them, but only you can make them happen. After your consultation your trainer will come up with a plan for you and your dog based off of your goals. It will be broken down into manageable milestones and you will be given homework to work on between lessons. The rate at which we progress will depend entirely on your dog as we always work at the dog’s pace

Our management program is similar to the way we set up our private lessons, but the focus is not on teaching the owner. This program is geared towards high energy dogs who need an outlet while their owner is away, in order to reduce problem behaviors in the home such as destroying furniture. Think of it as non conventional daycare. We will help get your dog the extra time they need to work their brains and their bodies so that their enrichment needs are met and they don’t go looking for a way to entertain themselves at home. This is going to look different for every dog. Some dogs may go explore the world, some might play a game of fetch, and others might be more comfortable learning new tricks at home. The goal is to help make it easier for people to meet their dog’s needs and create healthy habits in the process.

Board and trains are when the dog stays with the trainer to learn skills one on one. This usually speeds up the training process when compared to private lessons, and in most cases is a better option when you are first starting out with training. This is due to the trainer being able to put in more hours with the dog in a controlled environment where we can set them up for success, which in turn makes it easier to transfer over to private lessons. The success rate with having results stick around long term is much higher when the trainer can focus on teaching the owner after the dog already has the necessary foundational skills rather than trying to teach both the dog and the owner at the same time. Our board and trains are typically four weeks long, and include four private sessions once the dog goes home to make sure that everyone is staying on track and the training carries over into the home.

We offer virtual training because of the high demand we received from our online audience. The intention was to be able to cater to those who are located outside of our service area, but could be a good option for those who do most of their training independently but want some coaching, or to bounce ideas around with someone else. With virtual training we can still map out a plan for you and do check ins to make sure that we’re staying on track or to make modifications to the plan as needed.

Our puppy program is a board and train program for young dogs between the ages of three to six months. In the three weeks, your puppy will get both crate trained and potty trained, as well as get early exposure and socialization to prevent future behavioral issues and lay down the foundations for basic obedience and leash walking.

This is our two week board and train program. It is designed to work in conjunction with private lessons. Our trainers are able to do all of the foundational work with the dog (markers, engagement, structure, neutrality building, etc.) so that we can make more progress in lessons and make it easier for you to continue the training at home.
