Q&As

Those "ah-ha" moments when someone uses their internal wisdom to make a discovery and grows closer to their goal. You know those moments when the lightbulb goes off? Those are guideposts for change!

I want to empower others to make change based on their own choices, not on what others expect of us. I want to offer a supportive, compassionate and authentic space to process stress, learn new ways of coping and discover one's true self.

I have been active in the field of social work for 6 years, with an additional 3 years of training. I integrate treatment approaches based on a client’s unique needs, while using a mindful, strengths-based and, cognitive- and dialectical-behavioral (CBT and DBT) techniques. I incorporate cultural sensitivity into treatment.

Yes, I use Simple Practice as a web-based platform to manage my practice and it also provides a client portal through which we can exchange documents and information, as well as a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. It truly is simple!

I STARTED during Covid-19! However, we are following CDC precautions as well as gut instincts, and respecting individual expectations as well.

Services

Counseling is an open and non-judgmental space to help you reconnect with your purpose and passion. You’re likely here because something isn’t working - that takes courage to acknowledge and search out alternatives. Counseling is most effective when it is person-focused and strengths-based. My solution-focused approach is about empowering you, collaborating together and offering support. My style is direct, compassionate and humorous, within a professional and relaxed atmosphere. I use DBT, CBT, and trauma interventions. In addition to the above approaches, I also utilize mindfulness-based techniques, including MBCT and ACT as well as educating on the benefits of mindful awareness of our body and emotions. I use Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused Treatment to engage individuals in the change process and build motivation. I take a strength-based and person-focused approach to ensure the whole individual before me remains the focus.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) teaches us about the connection between our thoughts, feelings and actions. We learn to identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and think about stressful situations in a more constructive manner, which can result in less intense emotions. We also learn behavioral strategies to modify unhelpful behavior patterns. CBT is effective in treatment depression, anxiety, mood disorders, chronic pain, eating disorders, work and relationship issues.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emphasizes balancing the dialectics, or opposites, of acceptance and change at the same time. The counselor balances treatment strategies of validation and problem solving, while facilitating behavior change through skills classes, phone coaching and participation in weekly team consultation meetings. DBT is effective for suicidal ideation, self-injury, Borderline Personality Disorder, those experiencing intense emotions, mood disorders and addictions.

In addressing trauma symptoms, I use both a somatic (body-based) approach to address the effects of trauma remaining in the body; and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to address unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma experience.

I use Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention Counseling, and Solution-Focused Brief Treatment to assist clients in building motivation for change; identifying the underlying causes of addiction; and building a plan for sustained recovery.
