This place has a lot going for it. Great location, landmark building, fantastic prices, big menu with a lot of variety, excellent service and the food is great and they give you plenty of it. However some people may not like the party/festival like atmosphere, loud music (sometimes too loud) , I can imagine older folks not loving that but it is a great place for large groups. The menu is interesting, it has all the classic dishes and some I've never seen on traditional gringo friendly menus. Perhaps there is some Central or South American influence? Regardless, it is delicious. Try it out , you won't be sorry. More...

I like this restaurant a lot. The biggest problem is the music is really loud and normally what they have is reggaeton. No good place to have a professional lunch or dinner, die to the loud of the music. Food is great.

We didn't have to wait to get seated (at 8pm on a Saturday). The menu is quite big, with a section for vegetarian food. The drink list was extensive as well. Everyone at our table loved their food and margaritas. The only thing I didn't care for were the complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa was great but the chips were just okay. Also, it's street parking. Service was excellent. We'll come back for sure. More...

Every so often I get a burning desire for mexican and margaritas. This time, my friend and I decided to try El Patron in Albany. Chips and salsa were brought promptly to our table, the chips tasted fresh and we enjoyed the salsa. It was bright and fresh. We also got the cheese dip, which was also very good. The cheese dip was heavy so it was nice to go back and forth with the salsa. We obviously ordered margaritas. I got the skinny margarita (real lime juice) and it was good and pretty strong for $8. She got the frozen one which was "super good". The prices on the menu seem to have hiked from the menus posted online. The shrimp fajitas were $22, which is what I was thinking of ordering, I think that's just too pricy. Instead I opted for the Tacos Al Carbon, which were very good. The flavors were nice, had good spice and it was served with a super spicy house made hot sauce (use sparingly!) and limes. Both were great on the tacos. I think I used a little too much out their hot sauce, so I asked for some sour cream. The beef was a little tough, but nothing that ruined the meal. The three tacos were served with rice and beans, which were also above average. That was a deal for $13 and I had plenty left over for another meal! My friend ordered the vegetarian enchiladas, which she really enjoyed. She was happy they had an entire page of the menu devoted to vegan/vegetarian items. 3 margs, cheese dip, two entrees and an extra charge for sour cream (lol) brought the bill to $60, which was good! Overall, good meal and good value. I would recommend it! More...

The Atmosphere is warm and inviting. The entire place is decked out in cool decorations and there are many booths and tables available. The entrance is in the back of the restaurant but it's actually just through the bar area. Â The service is very quick, the waitress bought out the chips and salsa very quickly and the salsa was perfect. Not too sweet, or spicy. It had a nice kick and she bought out a little bottle in case we wanted more. Then our food arrived, from placing the order for apps it took probably about 10 mins. The app we ordered were mini chimichangas and let me tell you, they were delicious. They were served with queso, pico de Gallo and sour cream I believe.I ordered the pollo Pablano (amazing dish) it was savory and the rice was cooked perfectly. My date ordered a quesadilla which came with guacamole and all the sides. The food is amazing, the server was very sweet and the place is very festive. Now the down side. I am allergic to shellfish, I know I should have told the waitress that. But I forgot, and somehow while eating my food I got a mild allergic reaction. I think they might have used the same oils to cook the foods, but other then that the experience was lovely. It was mild enough that I didn't even have to take Antihistamines but I wanted to warn those with shellfish allergies ahead of time. Just tell the waitress :) More...

Friendly and interesting place serving great Mexican food. Really nice staff and reasonable prices. Most of the staff and many of the customers speak Spanish as their first language but don't let that deter you as an anglophone. A little good will makes communication a breeze. More...

Stopped in for dinner here a few weeks back. I was very pleased with the food and service and the decor is really charming as well. Whatever establishment preceded El Patron must have been quite the fancy spot back in the day. The murals here are just over the top and look like they were lifted out of the Vatican. Nowadays it's somewhat run down and ragged and the bathrooms are a bit disgusting. But you can see that it was unique and special once upon a time. As for the food, the portions are ridiculously big and the flavors were bold. I got the chicken fajita and it was literally 2 giant plates full of chicken, onions, peppers, rice, beans, salsa, avocado and cheese. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it could have fed 3 people easily. All in all, I had a really good evening here. I'd definitely stop back in next time I'm in town. More...

We were staying in Albany for the baseball hall of fame weekend and went here on Sunday after the induction ceremony and were totally impressed. We're from Seattle and have oodles of Mexican joints. This is in our top 5. Margaritas by the pitchers are the way to go. My wife have the child rellenos with poblanos was excellent. I had the chicken and beeffajitas was enough for two and very good. Sarah our server was excellent and very sweet. If you got a hankering for Mexican, the patron is a must! More...

Really good food. The quest fundito was tops. Generous margaritas. We both had tacos and you can choose what you want when you order three. All six of ours were delicious especially the Al Pastor and the fish. Even the refried beans and rice were above average. The lost star is for the waitress. Nice enough, but she "went missing" several times. More...

Came back I for another visit. Me and companion enjoyed an excellent dinner -- I went with the black bean soup & combo plate, so enjoyed several options. Companion chose a beef plate, which he enjoyed. The house lime margarita  -- I didn't finish & part of one was plenty. For cilantro sensitive folks (aka soapy), there was a bit too much in the salsa, but great dip into the black bean soup. Two full dinners & a drink was $42, so reasonably priced. Festive atmosphere and competent service. An authentic American/Me can establishment.  Definitely worth a try. More...

The chips and salsa are decent. I always get the tacos veganos and my boyfriend gets the trio tacos (steak, shrimp, and chicken/beef). I usually grab a half pitcher of strawberry margarita as well, can't beat the price. El Patron's rice is better than the other Mexican restaurants in my opinion. It is seasoned and their beans are seasoned well. Can't go wrong going here if you want a decent meal on a budget. More...
