I had the two pack of beef tongue tacos, half order of stuffed avocados, and a small Menudo. Everything i had was great but i LOVED the Menudo. I was shaking my head and could have cried. THIS IS HOW FOOD YOU PAY MONEY FOR SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL. Anyways the food was top notch, i don't normally get authentic mexican where i live and i feel like if i lived anywhere near this place i would be a regular customer. I do believe this was the best mexican retursnt ive ever been to.Wait staff was nice too. Order the Menudo and the Lengua Tacos you wont regret it More...

Not too sure where all the negative reviews are coming from. Food and service were stellar. Menu- Simple, shorter than most menus at Mexican restaurants but you're sure to find something you'll enjoy. A shorter menu is usually a good indicator that the food will be good. Food- Awesome! We enjoyed everything we got. You can ask the kitchen to amp up the spice on most dishes and they'll happily oblige you.Service- Food came out in acceptable time. We have a pair of toddlers that act as the perfect timer for food getting to the table! Overall- Were coming back again for sure, hopefully on a night without the kiddos. More...

El Gallo Giro has the BEST green chili appetizer I've ever had; they're these amazingly baked (I think) green chilis wrapped in bacon. I'm not even a huge chili fan and I've been there twice recently just so I could order them. Their street tacos are also wonderful and well-priced, with moist, nicely seasoned meat and a great salsa bar (though I'm pretty sure the salsa bar isn't there all the time). We've also had great service every visit and their colorful atmosphere is nice, too. If it's not busy, you can grab a seat on their little patio and watch the downtown Boise parade of hipsters while you gorge on yummy food. More...

I really enjoyed my last few visits to this Mexican staple. It stands out with it's colorful facade in the historical center on Main Street downtown close to many bars and shops. Inside, it's cozy and unpretentious, and decorated with lots of colorful, Mexican artwork all around to include their furniture! It's super fun (oh and the bathroom is nice and clean!--great indicator!). Â I usually sit at the bar because I love their Margarita's because they are not cloyingly sweet and they are a nice size (and they don't ever give me heartburn which is a plus!). I'm usually dining alone here since I like to frequent the place when everyone else is working and I'm off. This gives me some delicious alone time! Anyway, they present you with the quintessential basket of delicious freshly, fried and salted tortilla chips with a side of homemade Pico di Gallo and some seriously creamy re-fried beans to dip them in (for free of course!).I placed my order for Shrimp Fajitas and it arrived sizzling hot, with fresh yellow, red, green bell peppers, onions, and nicely caramelized mushrooms all coated with just the right amount of oil. They also have this amazing salsa bar that includes all types of salsas, and condiments like hot sauce, onions and cilantro! Â The only thing that I would suggest is more seasoning on the shrimp itself. Because we are inland and can really only get frozen shrimp here in Boise, (or previously frozen) the taste and texture of the shrimp aren't always 1000% on point or how I would like them (and this goes for almost every restaurant I have frequented here that serves shrimp). Sometimes they are a little water logged and that can also contribute to a washed out flavor, so if they sprinkled a little more spice on the shrimp themselves it would be an added plus! All around, this Mexican restaurant is one of my favorites here and I will be back again and again! More...

I didn't realize this was owned by the folks who used to own the location in Kuna. I've only heard great things about the Kuna location. Mom and I checked them out a couple of weeks ago and we were very impressed. We were greeted warmly. We arrived for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday and were glad to see a fairly steady stream of patrons coming in the whole time we were there (it wasn't packed, but to have several couples and some groups of four come in between 2:00 and 3:00PM is pretty impressive). That space has changed hands quite frequently, so we really hope they'll be around for awhile. I ordered the shrimp burrito which was fantastic. And huge! I finished it off over the next couple of days. My mother loved her Main Street burrito which she also made several meals out of. Mom has since been back (just today) with her friends. They were very pleased as well. :-) More...

I think it took me a couple times to realize that I really like El Gallo Giro that much. Â Funny how that works.Service has been awesome every single time I've been in. Â Everyone is friendly, and while it hasn't been open very long, they've got regulars and know who they are.Enchiladas Popeye- first, cute name for spinach enchiladas with green sauce. Â Second, if you like spinach, these are really good. Â Taco Tuesdays- I'm not sure if it's all day or not, but every time I go on Tuesday, it's a taco buffet. Â If someone were to ask me what my idea of heaven is, two words- taco buffet.Molcajetes- if you have not had a molcajete, you need to shut your computer off, go to El Gallo Giro, and order a molcajete. Â The molcajete itself is the large hot stone mortar that the food is served in. Â There's a few options as far as meat and the type of sauce and veggies that go into it, but the end result is like... fajitas.... on steroids... served sizzling in a hot stone bowl. Â Try one.... it'll change your life.Last, the salsa is really good.I think I like this place a little more each time I go in. More...

We had a wonderful experience here at this family owned business. We sat at the bar and received great service from everyone. Spoke to Coach and he was fun to chat with. We actually prefer to belly up at the bar in restaurants. Lighting could be a bit swankier with some softer pendulum lighting instead of the oversized, tin looking, white ones with the bulbs exposed. Just a little too in your face. If lighting was softer overall, the space would be more warm and inviting, but it was decorated very nicely. Good first impression. Food was delicious too! Got complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip, which was awesome! I got the Carne Borracha Molcajete and my hubby got the Chile Verde Molcajete, which he loved and said was one of the best he's had! While mine was super amazingly tasty and flavorful, the meat was a little tough, but I couldn't stop eating it. I never had a Molcajete and this dish came highly recommended by the staff. Soft warm tortillas did not disappointed either. More...

A friend suggested going here after being at the quilt show at the Expo Center all day. I asked if it was Americanized or the real thing since I'd lived in AZ for 30 years and love real Mexican food. Â Believe me, it's real. Salsa, fried beans and chips served while you're figuring out what to eat. I asked for a spicier salsa and they had it. I had pollo en mole- oh my, so. Dry good. I'd never had it where they sliced the meat in pieces instead of chicken pieces, but it was still really good. Â Then, we had churros afterwards that are served with whipped cream and chocolate. Was very good. I totally enjoyed and when I'm back in that area, I will be going back!!!! More...

I ordered verde enchiladas with chips, salsa and guacamole. The chicken verde enchiladas were wonderful and came with two containers of sour cream. They also had beans and rice - the beans had that authentic crumbled cheese like you get in Mexico and Texas but not a lot of other places so I was surprised and happy to see that in Boise ID. The guacamole was small and had jalapeño pieces at my request and the salsa was also good and a big container plus a small container. I ordered chips (I guess it already came with chips and salsa I just didn't realize it) and the chips and salsa were homemade and very good. I had Mexican food in past in NH and WY and it wasn't as authentic or as good as Boise ID! More...

Everyone leaving reviews about this place are literally going out of their way to bash on this restaurant. This is their 3rd location so obviously the majority of Boise enjoys their food, service and atmosphere because if not they'd be closed down by now but instead they keep growing. I've lived in Chile and tried dishes from all over South America and Central America and I really do enjoy this place for some Mexican food! I appreciate the service of the waiters and the owner is always so kind to us when we come in. Great drinks, great food and a great time. They have a fun guacamole guy rolling around some nights and he'll make you some custom guacamole to your liking which is fun and good. Definitely recommend the fajitas, spicey salsa, grab a churro and ask Lucio what crazy drink he can make you behind the bar. More...
