Went in for a drastic change since I'm pregnant and I can't do my usual Brazilian blowouts anymore. Was hating how difficult my hair was especially while pregnant, and had wanted to go short for 20+ years but never had the guts to do it.  Went to Eddy and although I was so scared walking into the salon... his confidence and the staff's friendliness put me right at ease immediately. This review is specific to Berta. I've been going to Berta for color, Brazilian blow out and cuts for over a year. She is honest and helpful. I get these crazy ideas to alter my hair and she talks me down from the ledge. She is creative and has the eye for color and style. I highly encourage you to make an appt. with her and change your life. Her personality is the best! She is now a great friend. After going to the same hairdresser for the past 18 years, my hair was so out of date, and I needed to find a hairdresser that was current and could change my look.  The best day of my life was getting referred to Eddy by several people.  I set up a consultation with him (my hair is very thick, course and layered), and he told me what I should do with my hair and I loved what he had to say.  I started out with a Brazilian blowout, which changed my look immediately.  Next was new base color with highlights and lowlights.  It looked so good and everyone that I knew loved it.  When I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe that I was looking at me!  Had to let uneven layers grow out, and he cut the back off the other day.  I am so impressed with him and how I look, that he has me forever!  Kennedy did the blowout and color (Eddie oversaw her in the beginning) and she is just fabulous!  I love my hair; am  crazy about Eddie, and everyone in the salon could not be nicer.  I wish I found him years ago, but am so happy that I finally decided to make a switch.  I can't say enough great things about him and Kennedy.  I look much younger and current.  Making the move was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.  I am a perfectionist, and so are they.  I highly, highly recommend Eddy James!!!  You will be so happy!! Updating my review because I had another wonderful experience here! After letting my hair grow almost a year for my wedding- I was ready for a good cut and my stylist no longer worked at the salon. Studio City must be the hairstylist Mecca. The streets are awash with stylists catering to every type of client from blue haired octogenarians to the uber-rich If you're like me, you want a stylist that gives you a designer cut, without costing so much that you have to brown bag it the rest of the month. Eddy has the chops and the integrity to do that. He's confident without being cocky. He has cut hair for so many years (since high school) that his experience is invaluable My regular salon was unavailable so I stopped in for a cut and color. (Yes, I'm a guy but who wants grey hair?)As the dye in my hair was working away, I watched him style a woman seated to my right. She looked great when he finished but she wanted it shorter. He said, "let's wash it first.  Your hair is very curly. We can always cut it shorter afterward". Now isn't that what we are all looking for?  Somebody to give you what you want, even if it isn't what you ask for?   Needless to say, I'm very happy with my hair. But afterward, I realized that I inadvertently lost part of my glasses.  They wrapped the arms with foil so they wouldn't be stained with the dye. When I pulled off the foil, I pulled off one of tips on the earpiece. I don't know exactly what they are called, but look at a pair of glasses with metal frames and you'll see there are little plastic thing-ama-jig hooks that go around your ears and keeps you from stabbing yourself in the head. If you buy your prescription glasses anywhere but Sears, you know they are ridiculously expensive and it's not simple to buy "parts". So when I called the salon this morning. I had little hope it could be found. But an hour later, they called to say they found it. Wow. You guys rock!! More...

Shannon Garst is awesome! She is an expert and very experienced in color and style -- both of which I needed. She did a beautiful job on my graying hair, so that I can grow it out and still have it look gorgeous. Natural with a bit of an "edge". I love it. She is very cool and confident. Eddy is a MASTER stylist, the rare kind that can read you and your hair's desires quickly and make it happen, seemingly effortlessly. I have been going to him for years, even driving from Sedona, Arizona, to get in at least twice a year--and my hair looked good before I went in, grew out beautifully, which is a mark of a great cut. Berta is my absolute favorite hair stylist! When first moved to LA I tried so many stylist to try to achieve the cut and color I wanted. Finally, I put my trust in Berta's had and it took off from there. She help me achieve the perfect blonde balayage! This is by far my favorite salon in LA. I regularly see Eddy, and don't trust anyone with my hair like him. He is extremely talented, and knows exactly what I want every time. This salon, having been to many, isn't necessarily my favorite atmosphere and customer service-wise, with the glowing exception of my actual stylist, but there is a lot of good. They are indeed very good with color, which is my priority as a bottle redhead (you fuck that up, you're gonna have a bad time. Trust me, spend the money.) It's a bit loud and chaotic in there and they assail my ears with the same saccharine Top 40 that most salons do, but that's to be expected, and I understand that my visceral aversion to all things Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran is statistically abnormal. It is beautifully decorated though, which eases the pain of hearing "Evergreen" every single time I'm in there. And there's coffee. The owner is also lovely, though I'm not his client.     It should be noted, however, that the receptionist seems to have a difficult time recepting. Without fail, every time I call, before I can finish identifying myself and giving my appointment request, I'm put on hold for 8,9 minutes at a time. (Listen, I've been a receptionist- it's stressful and requires much multitasking, but one of the key points of the job is to, you know, not keep people on hold forever and then forget about them.) So if you call to make an appointment, you may have to make several attempts.     On to the best part, for me- Mallory. She's absolutely excellent with color and very accommodating. She listens to you, which is surprisingly uncommon, and realizes that everyone's hair is different and not all hair treatments fit everyone- she'll tailor them to your hair. I have had many MANY traumatic hair experiences (including one days before my sisters wedding at a pricey, French owned salon in West Hollywood- I still have nightmares) so I am very particular about how I want my hair done. Ok first of all I don't even know where to begin, all I can say is when you have a 911 emergency with your hair you need BERTA! She is the most sweetest and amazing professional hair stylist I've ever met!! Curly hair don't care but it needs an extra special stylist to cut it tight and right! I asked Eddy who he would recommend to cut my naturally curly hair and he suggested Christyani "Christy" Osorio (who he mentioned had trained at Vidal Sassoon). Christy is so sweet and down to earth  and did such a great job cutting my hair that I have become a regular getting my cut done with her every month. Curly hair has its quirks and I feel that Christy has given me the most technically perfect cuts of my life! The hair just lays right and grows out well so that even when it is longer, the cut still holds its shape. I have an A-Line Bob and she's done a great job maintaining it. She also does a great scalp massage when she's washing my hair. The salon is always clean and I like the satin robes they offer - much nicer to wear than a smock. I've found the staff to be really nice and friendly every time I go. I've chatted a few times with Eddy and he always has a funky car parked outside - look for his decal wrapped Porsche or vintage El Camino right outside the shop. There is a parking lot on the side and also metered parking on Ventura. Eddy James Salon is highly professional but it also has the feel of a neighborhood spot. After all this time, Peter Christopher is still my hair stylist. His work is consistent and is never rushed. We've fallen into a rhythm where I visit him every 6 weeks; he'll always ask me what I want (even though it's the same thing) and understands that I am a low-key kind of girl so he always cuts to make sure it grows in and lays naturally. I like to go to the salon on Saturdays so when Peter is done styling my hair, I can head out on the town and show it off right away. Whenever I get a compliment on my hair (which still happens all the time), I always tell them about this salon.
