My company has been voted best in Delaware 3 years in a row, my rating on buildzoom 0. They claim we don't have licensure and actually "recommend" not using my company. I don't know why anyone would want this job! However I am very glad that BuildZoom decided to provide this service. Although I had completed several remodels in the past this was the first time doing so by myself, no designer or architect. My coordinator Sunny was great, she set up the appointments with the contractors and then followed up to make sure the project would work for both of us, this saved me a lot of time and hassle. Sunny helped talk through the pros and cons of each contractor as they had in some cases worked directly with them on other projects. Once I had picked the contractor I decided to continue using BuildZoom through the contract process this was again very helpful. Trent helped me anytime I had a question, he scheduled weekly zoom calls and when I added additional items to the scope of the project he assisted with that also. I highly recommend BuildZoom. I am a person of color and let me tell you Build Zoom will leave you hanging. I am working on a huge project in Bayonne NJ and I reached out to them to help me find a suitable contractor. They sent someone out only to view the space and say they would submit a proposal to never do it! They stopped responding. It was very difficult to find a contractor to compete a project this large and I trusted build zoom to handle our request and they did not. When I was looking for contractors to remodel my bathrooms I didn’t know where to start and google searches were not helpful. Luckily I found BuildZoom and their consultant was able to guide me through the process and I was able to get bids quickly from very qualifying contractors. Every time I had a question, BuildZoom consultant was there to support me and provided me their expertise which made the entire hiring contractor process very easy. We moved into a fixer upper from out of town and didn’t know anyone or anything about the local builders. We had had done a kitchen remodel before but nothing in the scale of a $500k home renovation. We worked with Zach and Jared. They helped us identify architects to choose from, and builders to choose from. They educated us on the process along the way. When the bids came in they worked with the builders to assure that all the bids were apples to apples comparisons. Each week they held a meeting with us to assure that progress continued. I used one of their people last year to build a fence at my business. Fence was nice, although later when I asked for a W-9 form after paying my last payment to him, for tax purposes to deduct cost of fence, I was given a number, but was not an IRS number and he had an ITIN one, only good for him to report his income and not as a US citizen. After calling Buildzoom to see he was registered with them with a number to prove US citizenship and to do business here in US, they said it was not their place to do that and I would have to get from the worker, so BUILDZOOM, I am disappointed in you as a company operating here in US and not thoroughly vetting who you recommend to potential customers. So now I can't deduct close to $15,000.00 paid to this person with no US citizenship and I was blindly led to think because he did business being registered with Buildzoom here that I wouldn't have any problems with dealing with him,,,, wrong!!! So if you as a business owner don't ask for the 1099/W-9 up front, as now I realize,(no matter how nice they are) then you can't deduct off your taxes! plus both parties will be penalized!! This is still a bad experience and he claims his ITIN number is sufficient, also renting out of a very nice office building too!!! More...

Cautionary note to those looking for a contractor from this company. Our company mysteriously appears on their site, with completely inaccurate information. Not only that, when I have tried contacting them, they will not respond. To be honest, the information that they have listed has been taken from our website and/or public information that is available to anyone. It is just dishonest to list that our average pricing on projects are subject to permit pricing, when in fact that is an inaccurate way to tell the average price of a project since you do not pull permits for entire project costs. My experience with BuildZoom has been great. Our home of 30 years has seen 4 children and 5 grandkids, and is in much need of an update. Our architect recommended BuildZoom since our needs were very specific for the New Jersey area. We also used HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack, but I appreciated how hands-on BuildZoom was compared to the other services. We worked with their team to meet 5 contractors (2 were not a good fit) and received 3 quotes. We asked for more, and BuildZoom delivered. We're a few weeks away from pulling permits, and I feel confident we'll make a good decision thanks to the introductions that were made. Each of the contractors is licensed, well reviewed, and I look forward to working with one of them. I understand that the contractor we select will be charged 2.5% of our project's value, and some of that cost will likely be passed on to us. My experience with BuildZoom has been very positive. I hadn't heard of them before working with them, but I'm glad we did. We've since used them twice. For our 2nd project (an extensive 2nd floor remodel), we used their new service, BuildZoom Premium. It cost $4000, which I was surprised by at first. But we saw the value of it pretty quickly. It mostly involves working together with one of their construction advisors. In our case, we worked with Alex. I really think it's a really unique service. He has 10 years of construction experience and helped us evaluate and negotiate with the builders. It's a lot like hiring an accountant, saving us headache trying to understand the construction process ourselves. All in, we *saved* $7500. BuildZoom, thank you for being with us every step of the way. I will recommend you to anyone in the Florida area who need help embarking on a construction project. More...

Like Jorge Fernandez below, we also hired Backhaus Industries of Chicago based on the good reviews and the great BuildZoom score they had on BuildZoom. We signed a contract with Backhaus to build a house, but they abandoned the project when it was half finished. Then we found out that everything they had done in the house -- the HVAC, the plumbing, the cement work, the gas hook-up -- everything had to be torn out. We certainly never saw that coming. But that's not all, they have cost us tens of thousands of dollars to correct their mistakes. People post bad reviews to save others from their bitter experience. And when BuildZoom takes down those bad reviews, they not only destroy their customers financially, they destroy their website's credibility. BuildZoom may not be directly responsible for our loss, but they are certainly indirectly responsible. I don’t know much of anything about build zoom. I do know that if I want a reputable review or report of a company I would search the Better Business Bureau. Today I came across a review supposedly left by a customer of my company. The review had no specifics of who the person was what was done or much of anything else for that matter. Most importantly when build zoom decided to put a profile together for my company did they contact me? No! Typically if a company receives a negative complaint they have the ability to dispute the complaint or perhaps fix it if they actually did something wrong. My company is and accredited Better Business Bureau company with an a rating. If they receive a negative complaint about my Company they will notify me and contact me and ask me if I would like to respond to the complaint before it’s published. Sometimes people go right to social media and the Internet to badmouth someone and they don’t even reach out to the company who supposedly did them wrong. By contacting the company who is allegedly at fault it gives them a chance to clear up any problems that might exist with that client. In this review of my company the person says that I came out fixed something with her sink wasn’t there very long didn’t use any parts and charged her $160. The funny thing about that is my company is not hourly we are flat rate not one job gets done until the customer has a written estimate prepared for them so that they know what all costs will be. For all I know this person is a local competitor trying to badmouth my company. Build soon does nothing but attempt to shove contractors down your throat when you search a job that you would like to have done. They will force you to join the site to try and resolve anything. As I've seen from other reviews on here it would only be to spam business owners and to force services our way.
