Down the Hatch is located on the south side of Front Street on the bottom floor of the Wharf Cinema Center. This is an open air restaurant and has live entertainment a good chunk of the day. Seating is limited and there is no table service. If it's busy, best to get a table then order your food, drinks, or shave ice. You order food at the register then get a number to take to your table. You need to order drinks from the bar as well. We've been there a bunch for shave ice but decided to have breakfast there on our last trip to Maui. Prices are reasonable!We ordered the pork belly and seared ahi bennies with home fries. The home fries were crispy and both bennies were tasty. Each entree was a good portion of food. Â I ordered POG (passion orange guava) and just had to get refills at the counter. Breakwall Shave Ice offers coffee, ice cream, shave ice, and adult shave ice. Each kids meal ordered at Down the Hatch comes with a shave ice. Return with your receipt and get 15% off everything. Â Stop by an activity counter to get a Down the Hatch coupon for buy one breakfast and get the second 50% off or a free appetizer. Summary: Great food and value. Especially during happy hour. Check out the Lava Lava shrimp, Mermaid Fries, and breakfast burritos. Located on the bottom floor of the shopping center right next to a bar and a shave ice shop, this place opens up to a bunch of shaded tables around the Koi pond. It's a perfect spot for casual food with excellence. Well down DTH.During our most recent visit to Maui, my wife and I visited DTH for the first time. We had breakfast and happy hour in the same day, separated by a visit to Kohola Brewery just a little up the road. For breakfast, my wife got the Rocket Burrito, which is basically a deep-fried burrito with just eggs, chorizo, and potatoes inside, and a side of Lava Lava sauce. I got the other breakfast burrito, which had bacon, Kahlua pork, eggs, onions, peppers, and a side of Lava Lava sauce as well. Mine was a little meatier than I would have liked, but it was really tasty, and it came with a side of delicious home fry potatoes, while my wife's came on some Spanish rice. Gourmet and interesting, but simple and good.When we came back for happy hour that afternoon, we each got a discount cocktail, then ordered the Lava Lava shrimp, Mermaid Fries, and fried Brussels sprouts. The shrimp and fries were fantastic, while the Brussels were good, but not our favorite. The price for both meals combined was less than many of the other restaurants in the Lahaina village area, and certainly delicious and filling. DTH is doing it right, and I look forward to coming back again.UPDATE: We went back for dinner after the awesome Trilogy Excursions Lana'i tour and got the $22 lobster and crab grilled cheese, which was featured on DDD. That's a hefty sum to pay for grilled cheese, but this one is legit worth it. Amazing textures combine buttery bread with melty cheese, firm tomatoes, and tender bits of lobster and crab combine so well with the Lava Lava sauce in the sandwich. Third time to Lahaina, honestly this place  has MY((()))) Sad time say, with all the activities and on 'Aloha Time' this was our Very First time to DTH! Will Def. be a regular visit when we make it to Front St of Cruel Sun Town We seem to always be out for the afternoon/evening festivities and Happy-Hour calls our Name!Try the Lava Lava Shrimp and a draft... my Go-To is ANY Brussel Sprouts on the menu and DTH Has them, served on a bed of  cabbage= Perfect!! My Manhattan, straight up, Awesome  Sitting on the edge of the bar seating, the musician seemed to be feeling our jam and broke out Pearl Jam in acoustic-mix. We decided to come here for our Christmas lunch and so glad we did. The place is busy for a reason! Â The manager went out of her way to find us an outside table and help our family settle in. Have been coming Lahaina for years. Every time I visit the go to spot is Breakwall Shave Ice. Not only is the shaved ice great but the staff is awesome. They have a nice long happy hour; 2-6!  You MUST have the Lava Lava shrimp. It can be crispy or grilled. Also, put Lava Lava sauce on EVERYthing!  The poke of the month was bomb, my favorite so far! Great open space within a shopping plaza; giving adequate shade from the heat. Live music was a nice touch! Order at the counter and then find a table to wait for them to deliver your food. This place was featured on Diners, Drive ins and dives on the Food network. Â It's located in an open air-type setting. Â You place your order at the counter or bar and then go find a seat. Â (no views of water since it is located a couple steps down and surrounded by some small shops). GREAT place for Happy Hour with local music. Â The food portions are large. For locals and visitors alike this is an excellent place to go. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The line is usually long but it's well worth the wait. We got  the shrimp po boy sandwich, mermaid fries, seared ahi lotus, and crispy coconut shrimp. All of it was amazing! You can often hear a live band playing upstairs which adds a nice touch to the mouth watering food. If you go anywhere, I would say this has to be on the top of the list. More...
