The Molé is amazing. Some of the best Chile Rellenos I've ever had, and I have had a lot in my lifetime. The Ceviché is to die for!

Visit Sophie at the bar! And be sure to go before they close after 30 years at the end of 2019. They're opening a new counter service spot in a new location after that.

I always come for the Margaritas, tacos and guac. I love the bartenders and sit at the bar during Happy Hour. I hate that they're closing shop and moving to a new location at the end of summer where the parking is worse. But I've got nothing but love for this spot and the bartenders - thanks Mariah! More...

Solid, inventive, Central American dishes and drinks. Some drinks, like the one with worcestershire sauce, are a bit much but the variations of tequila and mezcal are wonderful.

Love Doña Tomas. It's my favorite restaurant in Oakland and I went tonight because I learned that it's closing. A version will revive on Piedmont, but I've had so many good times here that it will be sorely missed. They close in August so get your butt there while.you still can. More...

Fantastic every time! Last night's dinner was the Sopa de Lima (chicken lime soup) and guacamole with totopos - couldn't have been better! The winter crud had set in and there's no better cure than that soup. A huge portion is served steaming in a quart-sized bowl, and the guac is a generously large scoop of flavorful mash. We were seated in the cantina in the back; a cozy little enclave hidden past the patio with space heaters and plenty of ambiance. I was worried we might get forgotten, but no - the service was excellent and even slightly over attentive. Other dishes we've had in the past are also strong - the carnitas and the shrimp tacos both stand out - but it's that soup that keeps us coming back. More...

Food excellent. We showed up at end of brunch service (not knowing this, was a spontaneous act as we passed by), and they sat us but then an employee let us know we came in at end of service and they shouldn't have sat us. Left a bad taste. If you sit us then don't try and cause us to feel bad. Otherwise great food and server was great. More...

Only had breakfast but very tasty. Prices are typical for Oakland. Definitely worth a visit. One negative that hopefully won't be repeatedLast time there was hair in my food. It was replaced, although they didn't ask me if I wanted it replaced. And nothing comped for the experience. I think it is a sign of times more than this particular place, but can wish for a bit more customer appreciation. Cook had a hat on when we left (not earlier) not sure why hairnets appear not to be required in any of the small restaurant kitchens I worked in food and pharma and it was always required anywhere you might come in contact with customer product. Not cheap, but worth the price. The owner is in our local business improvement group and we have been there for meetings many times. This is also a great place for out-of-town visitors and other important guests. Great date night place. Food is excellent. Service is extremely good. They communicate well and are attentive while remaining relaxed about it all. More...
