We loved that Seth was able to emcee our event without ever taking the limelight. He was great at reading the room and playing the music to our crowd. Seth does his homework. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
Killer song selection, of course, but it's much more than that. Proper sequencing, smooth transitions, and a healthy variety keep the party going long after the old iPod shuffle ever could. It's part intuition, part skill, and all fun!
How would you describe your ‘style’?
In a dance setting, I gravitate towards soul, funk, R&B, hip hop, and electro pop, but I always fit the playlist to the needs of the event and preferences of my clients. During my performance, I like to let the music speak for itself, so while I'm happy to make announcements, I don't add a lot of interjections unnecessarily. I'm not big on club remixes of popular tracks or getting super tweaky behind the turntables. For me, it's all about the flow of the songs themselves.
What do you love most about your job?
I think about music constantly, so being a DJ allows me to indulge that passion while helping others to host great parties. It also allows me to stay current on musicians that I wouldn't have discovered otherwise.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Though I have been a musician for most of my life and have DJed on and off over the years, I always had a nine-to-five day gig to pay the bills. When some life changes forced me to take stock of my situation, I realized I was actually kind of miserable. So, I handed in my resignation, hung up my DJ shingle, and haven't looked back. No regrets so far!
