As an architect, I have been specifying DWR furniture for the past 15 years. Recently, I ordered a few pieces for my own home. I am usually the type of person to order items online - However, it is definitely worth it to go into the store and order from Gary. I had questions on wall security (twin 3-year-olds) and he knew right off the bat that how each item was secured. I was also concerned with being able to order some of the chairs in the future and he was familiar with the history of the manufacturer. We also had slight issue with a table we ordered and the customer service was fantastic. I have always loved the quality and design of the product. This rating pertains to DWR not the Atlanta store. My chair was purchased online.Beware of purchasing fromDWR because if you have a problem their customer service is terrible. We purchased a Milo Baughman Recliner ($2900) four years ago. It was my husbands 70th birthday gift. This chair is in a household with two senior adults, no children, no pets.The mechanism for the footrest no longer closes properly. Filled out a customer service form after an online chat with customer service. The online form did not have the option to add photos. The online chatter told me I could send pictures once I had a claim number.A few days later I received any email saying they received my information and would forward it to product support team. We offered to send pictures, no response.Three days later the internal support team decided the chair was out of warranty. A $2900 chair shouldn't have a mechanical problem after only 4 years. They offered a 15% discount on any new full price purchase I would like to make. BIG DEAL, they have a 15% off sale on line right now. This is not customer service. I purchased a very expensive Reid sectional sofa upholstered in wool.  It is one of the most comfortable sofas that I've ever owned.  When it arrived the legs on the chaise section were not correctly placed and the connectors for the two pieces were both male so the two pieces couldn't be connected.   It took them over 3 moths to order the correct connectors and schedule for someone to replace the connectors and move the legs. I also ordered a white marble Tipi table.   The piece of marble arrived cracked.  It took two month for the replacement marble to arrive which was chipped.  Also order a Herman Miller Eases molded plywood side chair in rosewood. It arrived in perfect condition.  They have great products but they definitely have issues with some of their manufacturers. The sofa is manufactured in Tennessee, I think, and before shipping things such as leg placement and connectors should be checked. More...

Lewis saved the day! I've been looking everywhere for a retailer who could deliver a George Nelson saucer pendant overnight. Things weren't looking good. With a tight deadline and a photographer booked, I called Design Within Reach- hoping for a miracle. Lewis took my phone call. We outfitted most of our new downtown condo with furniture from Design Within Reach.  Brock Williams, who works at the North Avenue location, helped us with what to get, how to position the furniture and color choices we wouldn't have considered on our own.  He has been amazing as we have waited to receive all of our furniture.  There were many glitches with the ordering (they lost our order for our Dining Room chairs) but Brock was available nearly 24/7 for us to figure it out.  Not only is he talented in what he does, went above and beyond the call of duty by being at our beck and call for our orders.  DWR would get 5 stars except the shipping and receiving and delivery process is not easy and takes exceedingly long.  Even though their "system" says something is in stock and will ship immediately, this was often NOT the case and was extremely frustrating.Brock gets 5 stars, DWR only 3. My husband and I went to DWR last month in the height of our excitement for being first time homeowners. The first associate I saw was Juan Carlos, and I am so happy it was him, because he spent the whole time we were there discussing different design options, product selections, quality of different products and brands and more. I must say I am very pleased with my experience in DWR. I went in a bit skeptical after reading some of the reviews. However, from the beginning somebody, named Gerardo, helped me with the item that I was looking for. Not only that, but he found it in the color I wanted, which was not in the internet. I'm a pretty harsh critic but not sure I understand the negative reviews in this case. I had some pieces I wanted to look at in mind and Clara was very helpful in showing me them and letting me play around with the interiors until I decided what would work best for my space. I did buy the Edel credenza but did not feel pressured to do so. Sure, you could buy the same thing online...but it strikes me as foolish to pay the same amount of money only to have a less humanized, personal experience than visiting the store offers. To address a criticism I saw in other reviews - it's a high end store and offers a level of service commensurate with that price point. I can hardly think of a place where I have received better, more capable, friendlier service. And the chair I bought there makes me happy. I work at a computer, and my neck had begun to tighten and hurt whenever I typed at length. The problem was my chair. After a little research, I found four stores in the Denver area that sell desk chairs that promised good to my sore neck. Denver is basically a two-hour drive from home, so I made a day of it. Of the four stores, Design Within Reach was the only one that carries Herman Miller (HM) office chairs. Aimee, the store proprietor, showed me the complete HM office-chair product line. After a good half hour discussing and trying alternatives, I settled on the "Aeron" chair; but our work was not done yet. The chair comes in three sizes and features a variety of settings. Aimee spent another half hour teaching me how to adjust them all, then set me in front of a laptop to type for an additional half hour in order to get a good sense of the chair's effect on my neck pain. (And, lo and behold! No pain.) After all that, I was fairly confident that HM's Aeron was the chair for me, and very confident that Design Within Reach would back it up with more help if needed. After visiting another store that carries a different chair, I emailed Aimee to proceed with my order. Soon enough, the chair arrived, and I've been working in it happily for a couple weeks now.But then there was a glitch - sort of. The manufacturer sent me a second chair just like the first one. I was thinking of driving to Denver for another reason anyway, so I telephoned Aimee, and she invited me to bring the extra chair her way. She would take care of returning it. So I did, and in the process, Aimee gave me another tutorial on adjusting the settings. I am so pleased with the service bestowed upon me by Aimee (and briefly, Amanda, another staff member), that I left the store half hoping that some of our home furniture would break down so my wife and I could come back.I love my new Herman Miller Aeron chair! Me and my husband recently purchased 5 Forma Boxes for our living space, I wasn't sure about it even though we had been looking at them for quite a few months. Chase was amazing! Not only he lent us one box for a night so that we could imagine the whole thing but he also came to our house himself later to help us installing our new pieces. The showroom is beautiful and filled with iconic furniture pieces from famous designers.  I ordered a coffee table and chairs from DWR in the past, and I recently bought four new pieces of furniture which I love.  Each piece is like a piece of art in my home.  David was super friendly and helpful with my recent purchases and kept me up to date on the delivery status.  There was an issue with the finish on one of the pieces.  After communicating the issue with supporting photos to DWR, they stood behind the piece and resolved the issue to my full and complete satisfaction.  I will be back, and I highly recommend this store and David for high-style, iconic, on-trend furniture needs. Bought a marble top coffee table, it arrived after 4 weeks with a broken top, I allowed them to leave the base at my house, thinking a replacement would arrive soon. Nothing, 8 weeks later I cancelled the order and waited an other 4 weeks for them to pick up the base after an other 2 weeks they credited my CC but shortchanged me by $150.  UPDATE  after posting this negative review (originally 1 star) a DWR executive reached out and resolved the entire issue to my satisfaction. I'll descibe my shopping experience for those interested.I came in with a very specific goal: to try out different Herman Miller office chairs (they're truly worth every penny) to see which would fit my body type best. My new year's resolution was to prioritize personal health, and I sit a lot for work so my doctor suggested these chairs. There's not a lot of places that have Herman Miller chairs in stock, and I definitely wanted to try them out in person to see which I liked best before purchasing one. I called ahead and told the associate I would be coming in to test the chairs. I arrived later that day, and the salesperson, Adam, had the different models ready to show and suggested a few that he thought would suit me best. Adam was fantastic- patiently showing me all the features and explaining the chairs' histories and main differences. I did not feel rushed or pushed in any way and it was a very pleasant experience. At the end I asked for a quote for the model, size, and specs I wanted and told him I would think it over. The quote came in a fancy envelope with a printout of the specs. 24 hours later I called and placed my order. About a week later the chair arrived (assembled) from their warehouse. I seriously think this is the best money I have spent in years. The only problem I have is I notice every other chair I sit in is heartbreakingly bad. I am very happy to have shopped at Design Within Reach, and it was exactly what I was hoping to get. Stopped in for the opening weekend at DWR in Corte Madera, to a light, airy showroom.I have mixed feelings about DWR.  They are now owned by Herman Miller (since 2012) which gives them more stability as a brand and so they are able to expand their retail to San Francisco, Berkeley and now Corte Madera.  The opening weekend featured lots of friendly staff saying hello, a gorgeous showroom, complementary food and local kombacha and mimosas, and more convenient (for us) Marin location in the Marin Mart.On the other hand, the prices ensure it's not accessible to many customers. And then there's our experience with customer service on the delivery side. We purchased items from the Palo Alto store, and our last purchase was a nightmare due to their use of an outside vendor, XPO Logistics, who performed the delivery. When I asked today, I was told XPO is still their corporate logistics vendor of choice.  (Yikes. Just Yelp XPO Union City, to see why this partnership is highly problematic.)So, jury is out on whether we are willing to try purchasing at DWR again given our last nightmare experience with XPO. Meanwhile, the opening weekend (and the showroom and staff) made a positive first impression. More...

Thank you, Melissa, for making it easy to buy what we wanted. You can safely expect quality products and quality service at DWR. We don't 'look' like high end customers; we are pretty basic looking but she did not hesitate to offer to help us when we walked in the door. I can't wait for our LC4 chaise to arrive . Everything else was shipped quickly and arrived in tact.  Expect to pay for the authentic products offered at DWR. The sales are not huge ones and are limited by the pricing strategies of Knoll, Nelson, etc but you know you are getting authentic pieces that will last. The designs are time tested modern and mid-century modern.  Our recent varied purchases were with Melissa B's assistance. Melissa is quite knowledgeable and can produce an answer in no time which makes for quick, pain free and informed selections and purchases.    Within the past year we consulted Grant for Nelson lighting design and placement and found him great as well. Lots of people don't know the history of DWR.They started out as selling reproductions of modern designers then Herman Miller bought them. That is the reason for their name.Of course the furniture are expensive,some people want the real deal and designers get a cut of each sale .Toronto store is well organized but their workers really need to refocus on customer service rather then sitting in front of a laptop or phone.Yes customers don't want sales people who are pushy that works off commissions but at least welcome them and be close by incase of questions. I had no idea this place existed until recently.  Everything(or almost everything) 30-40 % off, in near perfect condition!  It is definitely worth the trip to Oxnard. And if you can't find the time to go in, and are looking for something specific, their sales people are great too. I called them up and by happenstance, spoke with Janet, who is so lovely and so attentive. Wish we made the trek to this DWR Outlet sooner!  I've been telling my husband about it, but it took a while for him to finally agree to make the drive. We had visited their retail store in Costa Mesa several times over the last couple of years and saw things that we liked.  But we ended up settling for a few items from their neighboring store, Room and Board, since their prices were more within our budget at the time. We finally drove to the Outlet this past weekend, and I was like a kid in a candy store!  It was like one big sale and I would have replaced everything in my home if I could.  We almost purchased a sofa, but decided to wait for another color to possibly show up.  Some of the pieces that we saw had scratches or some minor damage, so be sure to check carefully before making a purchase.I ended up getting an Eames molded side chair with walnut legs for my home office.  It retails for $495 and I picked it up for $322.  I never thought I'd be so happy with a plastic chair, but it's comfortable and iconic.Heather approached us while we were in the store, and she was so pleasant and helpful.  We provided her with our contact information in case the sofa of our dreams were to show up!  If and when it does, we did see some recliners and side chairs that would coordinate perfectly. We came here after looking for various pieces to compliment our place. We found other contemporary stores to be on the gaudy side and really appreciated the simplicity and functionality of the designs here. The staff was friendly and helped us pick the right furniture and accessories.
