I’ve been practicing Jiu Jitsu for over a year now and decided to visit this gym last Friday evening. I currently study under Gary Grate at Charles Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Carson City and what I found at DC Jiu Jitsu was no departure from what I have come to appreciate from my current academy (or any quality academy for that matter): excellent, empathetic instruction, a welcoming environment (even though I was new, everyone made an effort to learn my name), and training partners who humbly push you to put your training into practice.

I’ve been taking my 5yr old son here for about a month now and he’s loving it! He’s the smallest one there and he doesn’t even realize it. I've been wanting to learn Jiu Jitsu for many years and finally got on the mat tonight thanks to Bobby Watson. Couldn't ask for a more welcoming crew. Matt is a great BJJ professor with my kids. He is patient and friendly, yet stern. My kids learn a lot when he teaches the kids class. His gym is small, which is great if you want individualized attention. You won't get lost in the crowd like other larger gyms. He has 3 young daughters of his own that he brings along, so you know he is family oriented! Price is very reasonable!! More...

Started here about 6 weeks ago as a BJJ rookie not knowing what to expect. Here's what I've experienced so far. A group of very passionate, dedicated, super hard working folks, yet mellow, and humble at the same time. There's always several high level belts teaching to a relatively small number of beginning students so the teaching quality is very personal. Signed up a few months ago as a skeptic to jiu jitsu comming from a wrestling background I didn't think I'd like it..... Matt and his team really take the time to slow it down and show the correlations between the two and always looking to improve technique. Absolutely awesome place!! I'm new to the sport of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and the people here make me feel welcome. Everyone here is a family. As far as instruction goes; incredible. Over the summer my son took private lessons from Matt and Kurt. In the fall my son was approached and swung on by a boy who had been bullying him. My son was able to handle it quickly and took the boy to the ground. I am so thankful to Matt and Kurt for their instruction. This incident could have gone a different way if not for the training that my son received. Matt and Kurt are professional, patient, and teach such important skills. I highly recommend this school.
