Right when I walk through the doors at Dbt of south jersey It feels very comfortable and safe it makes me feel a sort of hope that things are going to be ok, and that’s a rare feeling to have anywhere else. Everyone from the person who is sitting at the front desk to the different therapist I’ve met or talked to at DBT of south jersey are very kind and want to help. I always say that DBT saved my life- and it has multiple times. When studying DBT you gain skills in all areas of life that will help you to get through anything life throws your way. The more you practice those skills the more automatic they become to you when faced with a crisis. They become second nature to where something will happen and you will know what set of skills you need for that situation. Also a big part of DBT therapy is phone coaching. Once you have tried a lot of skills but your still experiencing strong emotions you can reach out to one of the therapists and they will walk you through other skills to help you manage the tough emotions you are going through. There’s DBT groups that usually hold I think 7-10 people where you study DBT and learn all the skills from each of the four modules together as a group and then go home to work on homework you will bring back to share with the group. I feel so blessed to have been a part of that. I got so much out of it that has changed my life. There’s also Dbt individual therapy where you meet with an individual therapist with the help of a diary card and behavior chains and you get a chance to talk through things that are going on in your life and start to process them in a safe nonjudgmental environment. You gain more skills and how to apply them to the specific situations you deal with in your day to day life. Also down the line you start to do trauma work to start to process the trauma and the symptoms that go along with it, to help to try to move forward from it skillfully. But lastly I want to talk about my therapist and the owner of DBT OF SOUTH JERSEY- Shaelene! I’ve been seeing Shaelene for over three years now and in my opinion she is extremely caring and she will do anything she can to help her clients to get better and replace old ways of coping to new and more effective ways. Most times it feels like she’s the only one in my corner- but she will always be there as my biggest cheerleader! She has always believed in me and had hope for me even in the times I don’t have it in myself. I don’t know how I would have gotten through all that I have, without her. She’s always supporting me and pushing me to use my DBT skills to help me through the tough stuff. She has tough me so much and always pushes me to do better. I’ll never forget when she first became my therapist and I was overwhelmed and didn’t think I could do it and she said “you don’t have to be here, no one is forcing you. But if your going to stay you might as well work hard to get everything you possibly can out of this” that was just the kick I needed to jump head first into my recovery and work hard at it everyday. I’m so grateful to have Shaelene in my life to teach me and help me see the light at the end of the tunnel. She truly goes above and beyond for her clients!I believe wholeheartedly in DBT and feel everyone should be taught these skills regardless of what your life circumstances are, and I think DBT OF SOUTH JERSEY is the perfect place to do that because these therapists will never stop fighting for you to succeed. I mean why wouldn’t you want to jump into something that will make your life feel like it’s worth living?! More...

The DBT of South Jersey crew is top notch. I’ve done therapy in the past, but DBT is unique in the way that it combines talking and processing through things with learning practical skills to manage your emotions, distress, and relationships. And while the therapy itself has been life-changing, it has been the compassionate, yet dynamic approach of DBT of South Jersey’s team members that has had a lasting impact on me. I am so incredibly thankful I found them and for how they have worked with me. I have always felt that this team goes above and beyond the call of duty. They are exceptional therapists, and I would, without reservation, HIGHLY recommend DBT of South Jersey. I cannot speak highly enough of Shaelene and her team and the therapy they provide. More...

I would recommend Shaelene as a therapist. While she couldn’t take me on, due to my autism and learning challenges, she seemed very interested in doing what was best for me and my needs. Shaelene didn’t leave me off the hook and is making an effort to find someone more suitable. I think that if you don’t have any additional challenges, unlike myself, that Shaelene and her staff have large potential to help you. More...

After 24 of marriage, I found myself going through a painful divorce. The whole situation came on as quite a surprise and I was ill prepared to cope with it. Thankfully family and friends encouraged me and supported me through this ordeal. However, I realized I needed help from a professional rather than just a friend's shoulder to lean on. I was encouraged to try DBT of South Jersey. I truly enjoyed this experience. I feel that I grew stronger, learned more about myself(and others), and developed strategies to deal with my feelings through these group sessions. Shaelene was an incredible group leader and I am so happy I had the opportunity to learn from her. She teaches skills in a warm but straight forward, no nonsense manner. I feel fortunate to have learned from her and learned DBT skills. I feel that everyone could benefit from these skills regardless of their situation in life. More...

DBT of South Jersey provides a unique approach to therapy, it’s actually more than therapy. It’s about building DBT skills that allows a pause when life is a struggle. It allows clients and family members involved in the process the ability to compassionately feel what the struggling is, while providing skills that allow both client and family members to look forward to what is wanted out of life.

As a partner of a client, I can confidently say I feel integrated into the process. This not only allows me to learn and understand the treatment and therapy, but to also have support for questions I may have on the therapy or how best to support my partner.

If you’re reading this and looking for a place to start, or are a partner of family member looking for support, contact DBT of South Jersey.
