WHERE TO BEGIN?! if you are planning an event and have "finding a DJ" on your checklist, you just found him. we were lucky enough to have David referred to us by friends who just got to see him at a wedding. As we told more people about him, THEY told us they had seen him at a wedding and how he was the best DJ they had ever seen. We couldn't wait to witness it for ourselves. David was even more than what we could have dreamed of. He coordinated a Zoom call with us months before the wedding to go over every single dream, thought, idea, song, and family member. He gave us ideas when we were stuck & he even gave us a Google drive with templates he made to make the night even more organized. with everything we had on our plate, it was so nice to know that this was checked off months before our day and we didn't even have to think about it. Now to the day of. When we heard he was there setting up, we didn't have to worry about a thing. He is such a professional. He gave my sister (a first time officiant) a microphone after she walked down the aisle as a bridesmaid and told her the mic will be on he's just pausing it til after I finished walking so she didn't have to be stressed. (WHO EVEN THINKS OF THAT?!) He directed all of our guests and brought the excitement before we all started walking down the aisle. FOR OUR RECEPTION!! The hype he not only gave the crowd but all of the bridal party for introductions and how he never missed a beat. He followed the schedule without making anyone realize there even was one. After dinner he somehow had the ENTIRE party on the dance floor (150 people). My husband and I were so excited that we whispered, "skip the other stuff we scheduled, we just want to dance!" because David had brought the vibes. The message got to him and he seamlessly kept the vibes going. The dance floor was NEVER empty. One of my favorite things about David - he can read a crowd. If people were swaying but not singing along, he quickly meshed in the next track. It was like magic how he knew what would get everyone singing. He played every song we asked him to. He made mashups for our garter toss and bouquet toss because we didnt know what to choose AND THEY WERE PERFECT. Every single bride and groom deserve to have someone who is going to put so much heart, passion, and hardwork into their day. That person is David. Words can't describe how amazing David was. He was so thorough in his planning process. He truly took the time and effort to listen and understand exactly what we wanted and executed it better than we even imagined. David set the tone for the night with his high energy and guest involvement. He helped guide our event and paid close attention to how people were responding to certain music to keep the energy high. He kept everything going so well, without disrupting the flow of our event. He was not only our DJ, but a phenomenal MC. This review is for my September 3rd wedding. I have nothing but praise for David for his organization, thoroughness, and timely communication in the planning stages. The Word doc he developed was extremely helpful in outlining the flow of the evening. David also did a wonderful job facilitating the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception setup, plus all of the usual reception activities (cake cutting, wedding party intros, etc.), and he has excellent emceeing skills. The wedding day went as smoothly as it did thanks to him. However, I do wish the dancing portion of the evening had gone differently. There was a disconnect between our expectations and David's gameplan for the evening. I worked months on a playlist that I knew my guests would love as it was full of inside jokes and memories, and I thought there was a mutual agreement that David would exclusively stick to said playlist. Unfortunately, this was not the case. There wasn't anything necessarily wrong with what was played - it was the usual party anthems - but I had wanted to avoid the typical stuff. I was busy talking to so many people that I had to ask some family members to go up and request songs from the playlist that I made. It was frustrating having to involve other people just to get what we wanted. We were also disappointed to hear an artist from our "never play" list as one of the first songs. While they're extremely popular, we have reasons for strongly disliking them, which I won't get into here. There was also another artist that was played towards the end of the night that I'm not a fan of. I asked my now-husband to ask David to change the song, to which he replied, "Well, they weren't on your 'never play' list." I never intended to micromanage, but during the stresses of wedding planning, it's not exactly easy to think of every music artist we don't like. I should note that most of my "must play" songs were played, and that I probably could have communicated my expectations about the music better. I will fully admit that I'm a Type A personality who likes things a particular way. Fortunately, my guests didn't realize what was going on, and they all had fun - I'm still receiving great feedback about the day. But I do feel like there was an assumption that he knew my family and friends' music taste better than I did, and that bothered us. Looking back, I wish I had seen signs that we probably weren't the best fit with David, as my husband and I felt overruled as clients, but we genuinely didn't see this coming until the wedding was actually happening. Ultimately, it was a successful event, and my guests were happy - only my closest friends and family members were aware of what was happening. I would still be willing to recommend David's services but would caution that expectations need to be aligned upfront. If you're flexible with music on the fly, then I don't anticipate there being any issues. More...

David was an absolute dream to work with for our 11/22 wedding! When we planned together, the process was made very clear to us, and David provided templates for us to use when planning our music. The day of our event, he arrived early for setup, played ceremony music as guests arrived, and followed our chosen songs perfectly! He was fun and engaging with the guests, and we got many compliments about our DJ choice! David was the emcee/DJ at our wedding on April 2, 2023. He was absolutely terrific! Very delightful to deal with pre-wedding, as well as very accessible, always responding to my email questions promptly. He really engenders confidence - a feeling that you are in good hands with someone who really cares about making your event wonderful. And he did not disappoint on the day of the wedding. He did the music (2 different songs) for the ceremony processional. It went really smoothly, without a hitch. The dance party was a lot of fun and many guests commented to me that he was a great DJ. My husband & I got married November 2022, and we had the pleasure of having David be our DJ for our reception! Where do I even begin, because we were truly blown away. Let me tell you, we could not have been happier with David & the amazing way he orchestrated the dance floor! Not only did he make the night absolutely amazing, but even leading up to the wedding, David made us feel so at ease. There are so many things to worry about on the wedding day, and I can tell you, he was not one of them. Something that stood out to us is during our wedding process, my husband & I let David know in our initial meeting that we were nervous about the way our parents/family/friends were to be introduced into the reception due to our families challenges (aka drama lol). In my experience with wedding receptions, the DJs either make or break the party. That being said, I was nervous to select and hire a DJ for our wedding. My wedding coordinator recommended David Newton to me, and I am so thankful that I went with her suggestion! David was professional and organized but also fun and energetic, and he did everything I could have asked him to do to make both our ceremony and reception go off without a hitch. For example, I was very particular about when I wanted certain verses of my processional song played, and he nailed it! He also had the vast majority of our guests joyously dancing the night away (and he even joined in on the dancing). David Newton was kind and relatable, his song choices were perfectly reflective of my now husband’s and my personalities and shared faith, and overall, he is an awesome DJ! We hired David after putting out a more non-conformed music preference call, we certainly did not want the "basic" wedding party, compared to the run of the mill DJ's. He came highly recommended for music elitist like us and our guests. And David exceeded all our expectations. From before the wedding during the planning, to our most amazing day. Any request by us pre-wedding, he was on top of it! We barely were sitting down for dinner without 2-3 guests telling us they LOVED the music and it was SO us! David is an absolute joy to work with. My husband and I are both musicians so we were very particular when it came to picking a DJ for our wedding. We first experience David at a friend's wedding and were immediately blown away by his skill in not only mixing and choosing songs, but gracefully leading guests through the program. He had such an air of professionalism, suave, and joy that made everyone in the crowd gravitate toward whatever he was doing. After this experience, we were HOOKED!

From the moment we met David, my bride and I could tell that we were in the best imaginable hands heading into the most important day of our lives. How can one be both confident enough to convey the excitement of your evening and incredibly humble/classy at the same time? David Newton is how. David has a doctorate in understanding exactly the song the dance floor wants to hear at exactly the right time. With that said, he exhibited a posture of openness to letting us steer the musical choices. David is AMAZING! Choosing the right DJ (or any wedding vendor for that matter) can be overwhelming, but look no further, David is your guy! We received sooo many compliments during and after the wedding about how our awesome our DJ was. The dance floor was consistently PACKED the entire night! Perfect music, perfect MC'ing - there really isn't a single thing I'd change about the entire evening.
David is extremely professional and thorough! He met with us in person before we hired him (which was a huge plus as some of our other vendors wouldn't agree to in-person consultations until after we hired them). He then spent as much time as needed talking through our music ideas and just generally getting to know each us. Soon after he followed up with a questionnaire for us to fill out and we met and talked through that as well about a month before the wedding. Finally, he took the time to have one last conference call with us and our wedding coordinator the week of the wedding to finalize everything.

David was an 11 out of 10. And this rating is coming from someone that has former DJ experience. David DJ'd my brother's wedding a week ago at Bel-Air Country Club. It was big stakes and he killed it. He kept the dance floor packed the entire time. ENTIRE time. Furthermore, his choice of songs walked the perfect line between dance pop that people really do want to hear and some deeper cuts that people love to hear but DJ's rarely play. Luckily, we found David who was super helpful, reassuring, and accommodating! My wedding planner suggested David and we're so happy we listened to her! He DJed and also MCed our wedding. Our guests looooved David, he played upbeat, current and age-appropriate music for the cocktail hour, dinner reception and dancing segment.

About 9 or 10 weeks away from the wedding day he will ask you to fill out a questionnaire of your wedding party and family for introductions, reception program, and music for all parts of the program.

David was very entertaining and professional, seriously, our guests were amazed by our DJ/MC choice! He was professional as in taking our delicate family introductions seriously--divorced parents and memorial acknowledgments, and even the centerpiece giveaway game was hilarious and appropriate.

David is very good at reading the wedding guests "vibe" and his song selection was so on point. Some songs I was surprised (and happy!) he played because we had such a diverse group: a mix of current and 2000's pop, dance, disco/funk and 90's hip-hop. My husband and I loved it so much we asked David for the song history so we could create our wedding day Spotify playlist!

My husband and I are very relieved that we went with David's suggestions on music choices because if we had it our way, we would have only played the type of music we liked. David convinced us to play a variety of party music so the majority of our guests will recognize the songs and dance/sing along (and for the hip-hop, David played the radio-edit versions, hah!).

Also, David is South African so his accent was another entertaining bonus for our guests! Definitely made our female guests swoon!

I'm a wedding coordinator and have had the pleasure of working with David on several occasions. Let me just say that he is ALWAYS a big hit at the weddings. I don't know if you guys know but not only is he a DJ but he's also a stand up comedian.... which makes him even better at what he does because he is an entertainer in every sense of the word. David interacts with wedding guests and keeps them dancing and laughing the whole night. His music selections are incredible and the way he transitions from one song to the next is so seamless you can't tell where one song ends and the other begins. That's a big one to me! As a coordinator I get to see A LOT of different type of DJs and I can honestly say that David Newton is the best of the best!!

With that said, when it came time for a charity fundraiser I was helping to plan I instantly considered asking David to be the Master of Ceremonies. I honestly didn't know if he would be available, especially since it was a charity event on a Saturday night. Boy was I wrong!! When I reached out to David he was very excited about the opportunity and made himself available despite having to fly back and forth between LA and SF for work!! The night of the event, he was a HUGE hit and had the audience laughing any time he was on the mic. All of the attendees, committee and board members absolutely LOVED him!! OH MY GOSH. THIS GUY. HIRE HIM. NOW. Hiring a DJ/Emcee was pretty much the last thing on our list. Our venue gave us a list of DJs they prefer we use, one of which being a company David works with. David was then recommended to us! Quite honestly, I fell in love with his accent! I told my fiance we HAD to have him! Also, David said how he can tell you all about the music he loves, but it's not about him at YOUR event - it's about YOU and YOUR favorite song! Which I wasn't finding that in emcees...
We secured David, but being in San Diego while he's in LA, we Facetimed to get our wedding in order. No problem! He had sent some questions about what we want our day to be like - music, ceremony and reception, etc etc. It was slightly overwhelming, but we're such amateurs! When we spoke with him, he was entirely calm, collected, excited for us and our day, very reassuring of what we didn't know - because he DOES know! AND to top it all off! He was drinking iced coffee out of a mason jar! (These are crucial details to me! It means he fits with us, we mesh!) We felt terrible as he had a rough week and had a busy week ahead (our wedding was in 6 days from speaking with him), but he remained optimistic and excited, didn't let anything hinder his enthusiasm and focus.
Mind you, I was emailing/texting this poor guy the morning of our wedding (which was May 28th of 2017 - little behind with the review - sorry David!) with song choices because I couldn't make decisions! Making small adjustments on our timeline because we had a little change, etc.. He rolled with everythinggg. Seriously he's a PRO! Of our vendors, David was my favorite to work with! He was SO fun! Professional, yet brought everyone together in a casual way. SO easy to work with! He will be as involved or uninvolved as you want. He will make sure your day is focused on you! DAVID is AMAZING!! David was our wedding DJ back in November and he did an absolutely amazing job. We still get soo many compliments about our DJ and how he played such a great set. David played a huge part in making our wedding amazing! We booked him about 10 months out and did a quick phone call to just introduce ourselves and discuss some very general ideas. He immediately sent us some planning sheets, which helped us a great deal in keeping track of music we still needed to decide on (for both the ceremony and the reception).

About three months out, the contact with David intensified. We met in person once to go over the planning sheets, which we had partially filled out and decided on what still needed to be done. During this process David had some real good suggestions on how to incorporate some ideas we had and make our day extra special. We had another quick phone call about one week before our wedding to make sure everything was set and discussed some last minute changes we wanted to make. David was super flexible with all of this and reassured us that everything was going to be just the way we wanted.

Everything went super great on the day of our wedding. David worked with our other vendors to make the day go smooth. He played the music we wanted during our ceremony, right on queue and at a perfect volume. He did all the introductions during our reception, with respect and a great sense of humor, and kept the whole night flowing. He played all the songs we wanted to hear and had a great feel for what music people liked and because of that, he managed to keep everyone on the dance floor until we had to leave our venue. All of our guests keep on telling us how great the music was and how much they liked David.
