About

David Miller Web Designs builds you affordable, no-hassle websites.

As a small business ourselves, we are very sensitive to the budgetary constraints of other small and medium-sized businesses. Because of this, we are willing to work with our clients at whatever level of involvement they wish, whether they prefer to generate most of the content themselves, using us mostly for guidance, or whether they prefer us to generate all of the content for them, so they can focus their efforts on running their business.

Q&As

First, the website must have a purpose. What do you want your website to do? It could sell products, it could tell people about your company - such as what you offer, where you are, when you're open, or it could give information to manage your church or non-profit organization.

Second, the website must be visitor-oriented. To do this properly, you must have good answers to the questions "Why do people come to your website?" and "What are they looking for?" and then you must provide those answers in an easy-to-find format, so the visitor doesn't have to go searching.

Next, the website must be mobile-device friendly. The latest research shows that more than 60% of site visitors today are using mobile devices, and if your website is not easily viewable on a smartphone, they will leave.

Next, the website must have an appealing, eye-catching design. This means a good balance between text content and images, mostly photographs, but also some graphics, and even some videos. There are some design-oriented website people who feel design is everything, but we are convinced Design Must Not Get In The Way of the Content!

Next, the website must have the content properly written and laid out, so as to follow the principles of successful copywriting. Namely, the first thing your website must do is capture the visitor's attention. If you do not capture their attention in the first second or two, there is a good chance they will leave immediately, and they will never see the other wonderful material on your site. The second thing the site must do is arouse the visitor's interest. This means you have to build and structure your content so as to draw the visitor deeper into the site, to make them want to know more about what you have there. The third thing your website must do is to give your visitors enough information to make a decision, to answer all their questions. Bear in mind you will only ever have two types of visitors to your site: first time visitors and repeat visitors. Repeat visitors are looking mostly for information, such as a phone number, product information, or your address. First time visitors are mostly asking themselves, "Why should I do business with these people?" You must provide them enough information to make that decision. The final thing your website must do is urge them to take action, and give them an easy-to-find means to do so. This might be simply a contact form, or it might be a product you are selling.

As you can see, there are a great many factors bearing on what makes up a great website. We can help guide you through all of them.

What is the purpose of your website?
Who is your typical site visitor?
What will your typical site visitor be looking for when they visit your website?
What questions will your first-time site visitor have?
What questions will your repeat site visitors have?
How much of the content of your new website do you want to provide, the copy and the photos and the graphics, and how much of that do you want me to create for you?
As for site maintenance, do you want to be involved in this yourself, or would you rather I simply took care of all of that for you?

The thing I love most about this is making my clients delighted with their websites.

I say websites with an "s" on the end because quite a few of my clients are so happy they have asked me to do multiple websites for them.

This is something I love to do. I was building websites for myself and my friends, when one of them said they needed to pay me for their site. I told them, "No, that's not necessary. You're my friend!" and they said, "No, we insist. This is something we'd have to pay someone else hundreds of dollars to do for us."

So I began offering to do it for paying customers, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Why choose David Miller Web Designs?

1. Communication. Both quality and quantity. We believe the best relationships are forged on the best communications. We stay in touch with our clients every step of the way during the development process, and don't abandon them after the job is done. One of our first clients came to us because he could never get a callback from his previous web developer.

2. Billing. We bill by the minute for our work. There are many computer professionals and consultants roaming the greedosphere who will only bill a one or two hour minimum. Balderdash. That's not fair. If you want me to set up an email address for you and it only takes me seven minutes to do so, then you only get billed for seven minutes of my time.

3. Experience and Training. First, consider I have a Masters' Degree in Information Systems (Middle Tennessee State U, 2002) and more than 30 years' experience in computers. Then consider I have been studying professional web design since 2005, since then learning and keeping up to date on the latest best practices in web design, functionality, and considerations for search engine optimization, and you should conclude my experience and training are your best option in a web designer.

4. Availability. With a limited number of clients, I can probably get to your project and complete it fairly quickly.

Services

Design, construct, and deploy websites to our clients' satisfaction.

As a separate service, we offer continuous website maintenance, which includes regular website backups to be able to restore a prior version of the website in case of server malfunction, hacker intrusion, or simple client updates that didn't go as planned.

This service also includes regular updates of all software needed to run the website, such as the core code of the content management system, the theme used to control the appearance of the site, the plugins used to enhance the functionality of the site, and other necessary updates.

Further maintenance services include intrusion detection and monitoring, broken links checking, site map creation and updates, malware scans, and browser compatibility checks.

Any website, indeed, any business is incomplete without a logo and other graphic elements that identify your business. If you already have these elements, we can use them on your website, or we can modify them to be more appropriate in size and design for use on your website. If you do not have these elements, we can create them for you.

Todays smartphone cameras have amazing capabilities. But even the best photographs taken with your phone or with a professional grade SLR camera cannot be used as-is on a website. Besides the standard Photoshop-type enhancements of cropping and balancing of colors and highlights and shadows, we must consider the size of the photograph, and its impact on the speed of your web pages loading. In addition, frequently there are elements in a photo, such as power lines or a stray animal, that need to be removed.

A high-resolution photograph can take up multiple megabytes of file size, but the display size of photos on your website never needs to be that fine.

We can make all these adjustments to photos for you and make them perfect for your site.

Research shows that websites with videos are much more likely to keep site visitors engaged, and steer them to the desired action.

From scriptwriting to set lighting to video shooting to post-shoot processing, we are experienced in creating these videos for your website.

If you prefer to be involved in the upkeep and maintenance of your site's content, we can teach you what you need to know to edit your own content and save money over hiring someone else to do that.
