Friendly. Dropped in for Oly Weightlifting and they were super accommodating. Still have the space from Main Line Barbell in back, even though that Weightlifting club doesn't exist anymore. Just take note of their hours, since they only have a handful of classes a day, and will only be open at those times. More...

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about CrossFit Main Line! I was intimidated to join since I hadn't lifted any weights in 25 years and heard horror stories of injuries and unsafe practices. As a former distance runner, I was sick of running, so I was sitting on my butt, gaining weight instead (peri-menapause newsflash: getting heavier and heavier eating fewer and calories just to maintain). I joined 7 1/2 months ago and love it. Before even taking a class, they teach you how to do things like "clean and jerk", and "sumo deadlift". The coaches are super enthusiastic and helpful without being condescending. It's the first gym I've belonged to where men and women are treated exactly the same by both staff and other members. I feel strong and powerful and can see the progress everywhere (increased muscle mass, increased number and of reps, decreased weight and %body fat) Also, I've learned from the coaches how to eat more food to find my healthy weight. I'm now 8 pounds lighter and much stronger! More...

As a woman of an "advanced" age, I've done everything re. diet and fitness: running, dance, weightlifting, Paleo, Whole30, calorie deficit . . .the list goes on. Some worked for a while, but then I either lost interest or it just didn't give me the results I was looking for. 3 years ago I was introduced to CFML by a dear friend and member, and it all changed for me. There was a real learning curve at the beginning, but the coaches are amazing - patient, knowledgable, motivating. Before long I was hooked. With time and consistency, I have become stronger than I ever could have imagined - my body composition has changed dramatically (thanks to WAG as well!), and I've gained the support and camaraderie of an awesome community. If you've ever considered Crossfit but are hesitant because you don't think you're young enough or fit enough, stop right there and get in to CFML. You won't be sorry. Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes! More...

I needed to change my sedentary lifestyle and started looking for a gym with group workouts, a convenient location and hours. I found CFML in a Google search and the caption which caught me was "CrossFit is for everyone" and the workouts are adjusted for each individual. I came in for a trial session and signed up the same day. A year and a half later, I'm getting more than I bargained for. I'm fitter, stronger and healthier than I've ever been. I'm able to do things in everyday life without even thinking twice. It's no longer "it's too heavy". All of this change would not have been possible without the knowledge and support of the coaches. They pay attention to each individual, helping you make the right decisions based on your ability and encouraging you to challenge yourself. They are always willing to help you outside of class times and are genuinely more excited for you when you accomplish something new. Also worth noting is the sense of community, it's a bond which cannot be explained and happens naturally. You don't have to be an athlete, you don't have to know anything about CrossFit. If you want to be healthy and strong, come in for a trial session now and you will not be disappointed. You'll even have fun along the way! More...

I had a pretty good experience at Main Line CrossFit. The coaches are all nice and knowledgeable. I just wish they had more space as I often did not feel comfortable lifting overhead with a lot of people. Additionally, I felt rushed at times with certain lifts. I have been to other Crossfit gyms before, and I have not had this same feeling. One suggestion would be less focus on basic skill work, and more actual doing. However, I do understand that the basic skill work is necessary and important to prevent injury. Still, I had an overall good experience and would recommend the gym for those in the area! More...

Just one review? No way. Everyone else is too busy getting swoll...Joining CrossFit was the first part of jump starting my efforts to lose weight and increase my fitness. But it was the easy part: I showed up, got pushed through a great work out, and connected with peers and neighbors who had the same goals. The hard part, changing my lifestyle so I could actually achieve those goals, didn't start until the 21 Day Reset Challenge. Our household has two full time workers and two young children and our diet for years has been 75% convenience so imagine a lot of take out, pizza night, cheese steaks. The 21 Day Reset Challenge forced us to stop and look at what we were doing to ourselves and our goals by abusing our bodies with an unhealthy diet. For each step forward my wife and I made in the workouts, we were probably taking two steps backwards with our diet. The Challenge provided not only the information we needed in recipes, ideas, and the impact of what you eat, but a format that was engaging and a support group from other athletes to the coaches who were also completing the challenge. This was a major lifestyle change for me and I wouldn't have done it without this challenge. It forced me to rethink everything I put into my body and think of it not just as food satisfying a craving but fuel to a machine. If I wanted a clunky, rundown machine, I could keep skipping meals and snacking on sugar and empty carbs, and gorging on fatty meals without concern for portions. If I wanted to reach my goals and turn my body into an efficient and fit machine, I had to have a plan, stick to it, find supporting partners, and educate myself on when and what type of fuel to consume. The Challenge provided all of that and the changes my family has made since then have stuck and changed not just our daily diet but our approach to our family's fitness and well being. So glad to be a member of this community and all it brings, from classes to clinics and fitness to friendships. *JAZZ HANDS!* More...

Coaches are all great, programming is diverse and facilities are clean and top notch. All workouts are scalable based on athletes level and everyone encourages and supports one another. CFML is a great CrossFIt box on the Main Line with a well established presence and continually growing community. The location is right off Lancaster with a decently sized space that is well maintained with all the equipment one would expect from a CrossFit gym. Apart from daily WOD offerings, there are dedicated Olympic Lifting classes, open gym hours with coaching available, kid workouts, physical therapy offerings and frequent community building events. Coaches at CFML are well experienced and willing to work with all skill levels. There is a particular attention to programming with a focus on longevity in the sport through emphasis on technique and methodical progression. Safety is always prioritized with scaling being advised as individuals develop. There are a number of membership options available with childcare services as well. Multiple class sessions are available throughout the weekdays with mostly AM classes on the weekends. CrossFit R5 is a secondary location with similar offerings worth checking out as well.CFML is a great CrossFit gym that offers challenging workouts that should likely meet any fitness goals. Preface: this was my first time doing Cross Fit, so I have nothing to compare it to. That being said, I loved it here. Whenever I initially sent an inquiry, Jen responded promptly and was incredibly helpful with answering all my questions. You get a free week, which is awesome in helping you make the decision to join. The coaches are all great - very personable, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They remember your name and what your strengths/weaknesses are. I have some back problems and they would always help me adjust my work-outs accordingly. They push you in a good way, but never too far. They do a dynamic group warm-up (from what I've heard, this is not the case at every box) and a group cool-down. I've also heard few boxes have AC, so that's a bonus here. They offer discounted memberships if you're willing to post ads around town or babysit once a week. Prices are comparable to others in the area. They genuinely care and would rather have you be part of the family than not - even if finances are problematic. All in all, I recommend it here for beginners and seasoned professionals alike! More...

I have been a member for over a year, and unfortunately have to leave due to our family relocating. The coaches at CrossFit MainLine/R5 are some of the nicest and most caring human beings you will meet. Every coach brings something special to the workouts. Once I forgot my workout shoes and one of the coaches (who I had met for the first time that class) gave me the shoes off his feet and coached the class in his socks. . . Coaches always have time to give you individual attention if you need it. After a freak injury two months ago the coaches helped tailor workouts to accommodate my injury, and were always encouraging and made me feel a part of the class. The classes are fun, high energy, and the coaches do a great job ensuring your form and technique are correct. I've noticed a big difference in strength from when I started and I always look forward to the day's workout of the day (WOD). The WODs are usually exhausting but reasonable, and all movements are carefully reviewed before the workout. Fellow athletes are welcoming and great people. CrossFit R5 (in Wayne) has a family feel, with athletes sometimes bringing in homemade (or fresh-caught) food for anyone who wants it. CrossFit MainLine has a few more young professionals and is a bit busier during peak hours.Parking at both the Wayne and Ardmore sites (a membership includes both locations) is free, safe, and painless (except the time when I drove my car off an embankment next to the parking lot at the Ardmore site getting it hopelessly stuck just over the sidewalk before class. A couple of coaches and athletes came out and actually lifted my car off!)Both boxes are solid, are continuously improving (new dumbbells, box jumps, and exercise bikes have been added over the past several months) and have a lot of growth potential (perhaps adding a late morning class on the weekends would be helpful, as making the 8:30AM or 9:30 AM classes can be tough on a Saturday or Sunday or opening more boxes in Northwest/West Philadelphia.) I highly recommend CrossFit R5/ Mainline for beginners/advanced athletes looking for a new fitness home!! More...
