Hank’s story..... Hank has been with me for almost 2 years now. He is a black lab mix and like all labs he is very intelligent and super sweet. He nailed all of his basic puppy training including leash walking and basic commands. One day being a curious pup that he is, he escaped my backyard and ran down a busy set of train tracks. That was it, that was the moment I knew I would need a little extra help with him. At that time I had lost all trust with him and would not allow him off the leash. This is where Matt comes in, I contacted him and scheduled our first lesson. After our first lesson I had already seen large changes and Hanks daily behavior. He had already started to listen and obey me better than he ever had, needless to say I was already impressed. By the second lesson I was feeling more confident in myself and Hanks responsiveness and by our third lesson I was floored at how amazing Hank had transformed. Matt not only trained Hank but in doing so he trained me. He gave me the confidence and tools I needed to help create a rewarding and safe environment for Hank. Matt is the BEST! We have three pretty good dogs but it was “us” the humans that really needed the most training. Our little chaotic household is now harmonious with us as alphas. Our pups are enjoying their lives because they know their boundaries and they reap the many rewards of good behavior. Matt’s training style is quick and effective. And worth every penny! He is attentive to your dogs needs and tailors his training to your dog. If you have a good dog, a problem dog, an older dog, a young dog, any dog...You need Matt. I’d give Matt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars if I could!! Highly recommend! My powerful, headstrong, rambunctious 10-month old Golden Retriever and I just completed three training sessions with Matt. I traveled from southern Maine each time and it was worth it!! My sweet Elsa, quiet & calm indoors, turned into a danger both to myself on-leash and to herself off-leash at the beach we visit daily. I’m a senior and Elsa pulled me down several times on-leash resulting in a couple injuries. One day she ignored my frantic “Elsa come!!!” on the beach as she swam through the waves toward the open sea chasing cormorants. Having tried every other method of control (group dog class, the Gentle Leader, martingale, choke collar, full harness with front and back lead, long leash, short leash), I decided to try e-collar training as a last resort, because I wanted to prevent a serious personal injury and because I wanted to protect Elsa from drowning, getting lost, hit by a car, etc. Our world had sadly narrowed down. I had envisioned us enjoying outdoor adventures together but instead it narrowed down to leash walking which was a very unpleasant struggle, hurt my back, and certainly no fun for Elsa. I wanted our world to open up but I felt trapped because I couldn’t control Elsa’s overwhelmingly powerful enthusiasm & natural retriever instincts. Aware, my daughter urged me to give Matt a try because he had successfully trained her three lovable unruly dogs. She assured me it would be worth the effort, travel, and investment in a happy life with Elsa. And so I traveled to Massachusetts for each of the three lessons with Matt. From the very first session I saw a dramatic change in Elsa. I was astounded. From that day forward, my leash walking problem disappeared. I love walking with Elsa now!!! I can take her anywhere and I now feel safe that she won’t knock me off my feet. She heels at my side off leash and comes when I call her, no matter where we are—backyard, woods, beach. She no longer gleefully lunges at new people in her enthusiasm to say a friendly hello. We are now able to achieve certification as a Therapy Dog team to do volunteer visitations at local facilities. Matt was great working with Elsa but also with me. He was very professional, clear in his teaching methods, provided plenty of opportunity for my questions, expert at use of the e-collar device, and sensitive to Elsa. As I look back, I wish I had gone to Matt FIRST instead of last. That certainly would have saved me a lot of money considering all the purchased dog accessories that didn’t work; but more important, my world with Elsa would have opened up sooner. I highly recommend Matt as a dog trainer to anyone who wants all the joys of a well behaved canine companion. Thanks so much Matt!!! More...

Highly recommend!! My fiancé and I adopted a 1 year old German Shepherd that was a terror when it came to walking (pulling, playing tug o war with the leash), did not listen to either of us and was a bit destructive at home when it came to belongings that weren’t his. After the first session, I was astonished by the amount of information that Matt shared with us and how much Maven improved just from the day before! Matt is very flexible and very responsive when you have questions in between sessions. We will definitely do more sessions with Matt in the future just to keep Maven sharp on what he has learned. We hired Matt to help with our 3.5 yr old lab/hound mix and our newly acquired 7 month old lab/hound mix. We had different needs for each but our main goals were to stop them from jumping up on people that came to our home, walk well (and coordinated) on a leash together and learn that commands are not optional. I was very nervous about the prong collars but Matt addressed my concerns right away and helped me to understand the collars uses and intent. He did the same with the e-collars. Matt covered a lot in our sessions but always made sure that we, as the owners, understood what to do and when to do it. Our dogs walk the best they have ever walked on a leash, do not jump up on people when they come over, and while they will need reinforcement on commands they are clearly learning. Matt is a lifesaver. I mean that literally: long story short, we had a pitty mix and a cattle dog who simply did not get along. Multiple ER visits for the cattle dog (I was on a first name basis with the vet at Angell West) left my husband and I distressed, both emotionally and financially. Matt came in and helped the pitty become less agitated and the cattle dog be less reactive. He also helped with their leash manners and even won the affection of our weird border collie. Great experience! I took my German Shepherd dog here to get trained. I did three lessons and accomplished everything I wanted to (come, heal, stay, sit). She was an aggressive walker and would not listen to basic commands before this training and now she walks right beside me and listens to what I say. 100% recommend! My boyfriend and I were at our ends with our Rottie. We turned to Matt because he was reactive towards other dogs. Taking him out for a walk or to the park was an activity that created a lot of anxiety and was just not fun. We began to avoid busy times so we wouldn’t have to run into another dog. After just 3 lessons, we can walk past any dog and feel comfortable going into any situation. Matt also helped us with some basic commands and even his food aggression issues! I highly recommend Matt! I have a golden retriever who has a mind of her own. Although she is a sweet, smart girl, she wouldn’t listen to commands or obey anyone in the family. This became an issue because her safety was at risk. She would run across the street, take off on us and do whatever she pleased... until we called Matt. Matt had already trained my daughter’s dog and my sister’s dogs so I finally gave in and emailed him against my boyfriend’s wishes LOL ( he was one of those “I can train her myself” kind of guys). Matt returned my email immediately and followed up with a in depth conversation about Lily. He seemed really concerned and it was nice not to feel like he was rushing me off the phone because I had so many questions and concerns. The online appointment system is so easy to use! Matt also has a very flexible schedule and came to our house in Winchester, how convenient! After one session, Lily was a better dog! At session two, we decided to try the e-collar ( I was always against e-collars until Matt explained to me in depth how using the E-collar is not abuse). As a matter of fact, it’s the opposite! My dog can now be trusted off leash and is so much safer. She ignores other dogs when she is walking and is such a pleasure to walk or run with now! Occasionally, I contact Matt for some reinforcement and he has been very receptive. I feel Matt’s prices are extremely reasonable, he will travel pretty far too! Thanks Matt for everything. I’m looking forward to advanced training in the Fall. What I’ve learned is that the Human needs just as much training (if not more) than the dog. More...

Our 1 1/2 year old french bulldog had food aggression, toy possession, took us for walks, and didn’t listen to a command unless he felt like it. After trying to get control on our own and failing we contacted Matt for much needed help. He never made us feel judged or like bad dog parents for having an out of control dog. We have a sweet, but stubborn 6 year old dog and we needed help training him out of some bad behaviors. Matt was wonderful. Matt was a great trainer. I adopted a 3 year old rescue this summer. She was a terrific dog in the house and making great progress - well behaved, mild mannered and trainable, but when she got outside on a leash, she turned into a crazy dog and I could not get her under control. She pulled hard and nonstop, and when she saw another dog, her excitement was just too much - for me, the other dog, and the other owners. Matt saved our summer! Our German Shepard Bauer was terrified of the pool. He barked and ran circles around the pool making what should be a relaxing family activity, a stressed out nightmare for him and his humans. What we valued most was that Matt was able to find what worked for Bauer. Not just a "prescribed" solution. Matt Connell is fabulous. My dog, Daisy, is 3 years old & I was certain she would never learn "down", "stay", or stop barking at the doorbell. She learned "down" in one session. She can now stay & the barking at the doorbell is much improved. Daisy's biggest issue was fear of the clippers during grooming.
