While out from California visiting my sister and her family, she took us her for dinner tonight, and I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. We walked in with a party of 8 and were seated right away. The service was prompt and courteous throughout our visit. The place had a very homey local feel and you could tell that the place could get loud very quickly on a Friday or Saturday night packed with people and a band playing. The food was fresh and very delicious. I had the Irish Beef Stew and it was flavorful and rich; my fiancé had the shrimp & chips dinner a d the shrimp were well seasoned, not oily or over cooked. Tonight was apparently Quiz night, so the bar was full but the dining room was only moderately busy. This place never disappoints, especially when your server (Sara) is full of energy. Excellent food always and one of very few places that you can get Smithwick's Irish Red Ale. Also one of very few places to get homemade, beer-battered onion rings (a real self treat). A little loud, especially when bands get going, but it is a tavern. Amazing food!  Amazing service! I went a little after the lunch rush and was seated right away. My waitress was super sweet. She recommended I try the pot roast and I was beyond pleased. For a lunch portion it was HUGE. And it was delicious. The meat was so tender you could cut to with your fork. The Irish soda bread with raspberry butter was so good. I don't know which I liked more. The butter or the bread. But together...it is so tasty. A combo I was a little apprehensive about at first. It was so good I ordered a second serving. Absolutely delicious and super nice staff. We had the fish and chips - they were crispy and flakey, not greasy at all. They were tilapia, which I thought was weird, but they were very good. We also had the pretzel bites with beer cheese sauce - super yum! You could really taste the beer in the cheese sauce and the pretzel bites were lightly fried - totally cravable!! The food here is really good. I had the fish and chips and was not disappointed. The pretzels and cheese were delicious as a starter too. Love the atmosphere. You can tell that this place definitely get hopping on weekends and late night. The burgers were absolutely divine! Real meet with real toppings on delicious bun.
