Clawes Carpets

We recently contacted the Clawes Carpets store located at 9541 Braddock Road and spoke to Roy Clawes about our desire to replace the wall-to-wall carpeting in our family room with hardwood flooring.  Roy described various options for us to consider and then visited our home to obtain exact measurements.  Roy quickly determined that our stone fireplace hearth would be a unique challenge in order to install the hardwood flooring. To install the hardwood properly, the installers would need to precisely cut a hardwood "picture frame" to conform exactly to the jagged edges of the surrounding hearth stone.  There are very few craftsmen who have the ability and expertise to perform this customization.  Fortunately for us, Clawes has several such expert installers. Our lead installer and crew were meticulous with every detail of their work. They worked diligently and precisely to create a "hearth picture frame." The team then removed the old carpeting, prepared the sub flooring, and installed the hardwood flooring.  It was like watching artists at work as the installers determined the placement of the hardwood flooring taking into account the color and length of each individual board. The final result is now a masterpiece of flooring in our family room!We are 1,000% pleased with our new flooring. I stopped in today hoping to see some flooring that I had been looking at online. I was upfront and told them that it was for a house in another state (which I knew meant they wouldn't earn any money from helping me). Much to my surprise, they didn't just answer my questions but they went out of their way to educate me on my choices and offered several other selections for me to consider. I was quite surprised at how friendly and professional they were even knowing my situation.They even arranged for me to visit their sister store in Fairfax, where the owner would also unlock the Benjamin Moore paint store for me to browse the colors. Great experience from start to finish!  I would suggest you research not only the company but also the flooring product you are installing!  We did and were surprised how 4 of the 6 competitors we received estimates from were not completely up front about the products they were trying to sell us.  Two of them after two trips into their showrooms finally answered our questions honestly.  Until we talked with Bobby Clawes and did our own research we didn't realize most wood flooring local big box, independent installers and national discount installers try to sell you is sourced from Russian trees shipped to China where the wood is cured/dried using chemicals (some banned from use in America as drying agents due to toxicity)  By using a chemical process the drying is less half the time similar wood flooring is cured in Canada saving months in the process.  The curing methods being shorter will often result in you having problems with the wood 2 to 4 years out, not to mention the chemicals leaching from the wood over time in your home.  As we researched and were getting estimates, we found several local and national companies sales people were not aware or not completely honest with us as we asked about where the flooring was coming from, the process the manufacture uses to cure the wood or about the well known wood flooring companies they were representing.  Many well know companies source their product from China lowering their cost.  In the end a couple companies admitted they either were not aware and two actually said their sales people might have miss understood our questions.  Really?   I am so glad Bobby was the second person who came to measure our home for our estimate while explaining the process.  Then his people in their showroom were more knowledgeable than the other 6 companies we were getting estimates from.  Do your research after you speak with Bobby, you will be glad you did!  We have two sets of friends who didn't using another company who now have issues with their floors.  The installers who installed the floor and the manufacturer will not help them since it outside their limited warranty.  One family is currently talking to Clawes about tearing out and replacing the floors they had put in two years ago.  Back to Clawes, their installers were great, friendly, knowledgeable, and able to answer our questions about the installation process while giving us tips about how to care for the floors in the future.  They were a few minutes late arriving, apologizing as they got to work.  The floors look great and we plan to use Clawes when we remodel our basement next year or two. Clawes was great to work with from getting the quotes to the installation. The guys who came to the house on install day were quick, polite, and communicative. I was worried at one point because it started unexpectedly raining while I was out running errands and I wasn't sure they would notice because of how our house is situated. But as I drove back in the driveway, they were hustling to pull all the carpet rolls and padding quickly inside the house before it got wet. I was aware that Clawes is known for quality but wasn't aware they do carpet cleaning also. Upon calling I was given a date and time when they would come to my house, give me an estimate, and if I was ok, they would clean the carpet right away. This was surprising. I am not in their business but imagined that scheduling work like this usually doesn't work for businesses. I reconfirmed if I heard correctly, TWICE, and was told that I had heard correctly. On the scheduled date and time, they came over, and gave me a quick estimate. When I said that it was good and they could proceed, I was told that they couldn't do it then and there as they had another job scheduled. They understood my point, asked if they could come 3 hrs later, and came back about 2 hrs later. Up to this point - I wasn't too happy but was trusting all the good things I had heard about them. After that - when the work started, I could see their professionalism. I had already moved some furniture and made as much space open for them as I could, but they moved around the big bed and othe furniture at my request. They also cleaned a few rugs and a sofa for me. They were quick, courteous, and did a good job. I am guessing they aren't the cheapest folks to get your carpets cleaned but neither do I think one should look to pinch a few dollars on a task that typically happens once an year. Despite the initial scheduling fiasco, which could have gone horribly wrong as I took the day off to stay at home, I'd still call them again next year and recommend them to my friends - along with a warning to be careful about scheduling. Contacted Clawes Carpets to do a small wood floor replacement after a water leak; which included a half bath, entry foyer & coat closet.  With prepping my home for sale, I also had Bobby take measurements & provide flooring estimates for the remainder of my townhome.  Bobby provided knowledgeable product insight & cost effective suggestions, such as LVT for the baths vs. ceramic tile.  Turn around time to receive the wood flooring, having it delivered onsite & scheduled for install was several weeks & much longer than I originally anticipated.  None-the-less my install was easily scheduled on a Saturday, which was super convenient!  The installers worked quickly & did an excellent job, but there was a slight misunderstanding regarding the replacement of a piece of the subfloor.  This also called for a plumber to be on-sight to replace the toilet flange.  Luckily their go-to plumber was able to come out within the hour & as a bonus Bobby obliged me on my request to have the laborers install my own provided quarter round in an upstairs bathroom (that I laid LVT myself in, thanks to Bobby's suggestion!) while they waited for the plumber.  If that's not extra enough, Clawes also reimbursed me for brushed bronze toilet flush handle that had to be replaced because it was hauled away with the old toilet.  Many thanks to this team! The did excellent work with the hardwood floor.  There were some issues with the carpet job.  In one case damage was done, but we were compensated by the company.  The quality of the carpet was not what I expected, but that has to be on me, since I did not request a sample of the material.  Finally, some of the finish work was not well done, but these were minor issues that I was able to fix on my own. Excellent customer service and value. I have used this company twice, purchasing carpet initially for a small area and then later to carpet my entire second floor of my home. The first time, was a bit of an emergency since I was just moving into my new home and the existing carpet in the family room reeked of dog urine. They took up the old carpet and pad, sealed the subfloor with Kilz, and installed the new carpet with lush padding in 3 days. I've had the carpet for 4 years and it still looks great in a high traffic area that gets lots use. When I was ready to do the upstairs I shopped around a bit comparing not only price but services too. I went back to Clawes and they did not disappoint. Their staff is very helpful and sends samples of anything you want to your home in a few days. Ordering was easy, the carpet arrived earlier than expected and the scheduling team was very flexible. The install for four bedrooms and the loft took less than a day. The moved and replaced all the furniture, reassembled the beds and even helped put the dust ruffles back on the beds!  They vacuumed the new carpet to remove the pieces when everything was back in place. For many years I have used Clawes carpets for all my carpeting, they are so professional, friendly and knowledgeable. So when I recently purchased a 1950's home in Fairfax city I called them to install new wood floors. They advised me to refinish the original oak floors and I'm so happy with the results!! I recently had my entire condo re-carpeted by Clawes. The salesperson & estimator from the Oakton branch were both nice and helpful when making choices and explaining the installation process. I went with some nice thick carpet by Shaw & did an upgrade on the padding. The carpet looks & feels great- particularly when walking around in bare feet.The installation crew was right on schedule & friendly, obviously knew what they were doing. Everything went quite smoothly, plus they finished up earlier than I expected- all in all a pleasant experience.I guess my only disappointment/complaint was-- there was absolutely no followup on the installation. I did not receive any spec sheets, warranty info, or, product care/cleaning info on the carpet, or even a phone call just asking how things went, and, was I satisfied with the work? Even my car dealer calls me after every service call, even if it was just a $40 oil change......I would have rated them 5 stars otherwise. More...

Clawes Carpet, and in particular Bobby Clawes is the best.  I really liked the job they did and would 100% recommend them to anyone getting carpets.  Saying that alone does not do them justice, so I'll recap my entire experience with them in hopes it helps convince you.  I'm not getting paid by them and don't work for them, I'm just a really happy customer. Ok so earlier this month, I was on the market for carpets, and their prices were reasonable and they were really close to the house.  Reviews were pretty good so I figured why not, let's go with them.Bobby Clawes (of Clawes carpet, it's a family owned business) came out and measured everything, gave me a bunch of quotes and took the time to show and explain to me the differences between all the different carpets.  This was pretty awesome, I never think about carpets, so it's nice to get a quick tutorial on it.  I went with Coastal.  (Really pretty, I recommend it).They (random people from Clawes I never met) came two weeks later for the install, which took about 3 hours and after they left, I noticed huge gaps between the baseboard (the wall) and the carpet!  "Oh no" I thought.  I sent over a bunch of pictures and they said that Bobby would come back in a few days and we could walk through the house and figure out what to do.Fast forward two days, and Bobby came back.  We went to the rooms with the gaps and he pulled back the carpet to reveal huge holes underneath the flooring.  Essentially, the builders for whatever reason left huge holes between the wall and flooring.  Maybe its a fire code issue?  Who knows?  Either way, this was the cause of the gaps.  The fix for this is easy though as Bobby pointed out.  We just to add extra layers of carpet where it joins the wall.  This would essentially eliminate the gaps.  He did so and TADA, fixed! He said that this was a common problem for all of the houses on my row. What impressed me the most was their persistence to make sure I was happy.  I've heard horror stories of companies that do installs and then the customer isn't happy for one reason or another.  Then they get stuck in a certain type of hell trying to contact customer support, or trying to get people back out to their house to fix it.  Just google or search yelp for carpet reviews and you'll find a ton, I gaurantee you.This is where I feel Clawes stands heads and shoulders above the rest.  Sure the initial install had some problems, but I loved the way they worked with me to make sure that it's absolutely perfect...to my standards.  And if I had any future problems, he said he'd come back out and help again.So what I'm saying is if you need carpet, call Clawes.  They are just a bunch of awesome hard working people that know and love carpet.  10/10 More...

WOOOO HOOOO!!!! Their upholstery cleaning service was OUTSTANDING! Patrick and Enoch were were amazing! Professional, honest and affordable-not to mention my furniture looks brand new! !! Not an easy task to clean after years of neglect and wear with 5 kids, 2 dogs & 2 cats!!I seriously thought I would be having to replace 20 year old chairs-nope, not any more!! We had floor and carpet replaced in our entire home. Mr. Bobby Clawes and his entire staff is very friendly, professional and pleasant to work with. I feel they have done an amazing job installing vinyl floor, carpet in our home. Esser and his team of three installed floors  yesterday, Edger,Alex and their team of four installed carpet today. All of them were very careful in taking care of our personal belongings, moving them around in recently painted home. They were also very clean and careful of us being around. All our heavy furniture was moved and put back where we wanted after the project was finished. Both teams work very hard and finished on time. We have used Clawes Carpets multiple times in the last 10 years.  They have installed both hardwood floor and carpeting.  The staff both at the store was super helpful and gave us recommendations to help us make selections.  They even offered alternatives to our original choices so that we could compare cost and value of the products.  We really felt like both at the store and with Roy (who came out to do the estimate) that they were trying to find the right product for our family -- and considered our cost considerations.  The installation of the carpets was done by one team, and the hardwoods by another.  We were very pleased with both.  The carpet guys identified the options of where to put the seam so I could have a choice.  They also told us their recommendation - which was helpful as we wouldn't have known all the up/down sides to seam placement.  The hardwood team was also fantastic - they put hardwood on our stairs and hallway.  It was a tough job and took them significantly longer than they planned.  They were at our house late into the evening.  I appreciated that they didn't rush the job to get done earlier.  It looks fantastic and they were pleasant to us.  I don't think they even took a break for dinner.In the future I will surely call Clawes again for any flooring needs.  I've also recommended them to my sister who also had an excellent experience with them as well. Great service in walking through all the options for basement flooring. We wanted something essentially waterproof and felt the vinyl plank from Home Depot felt flimsy. We wound up going with the Shaw Classico Floorte in Teak. Wish we would have used Clawes to do the carpet. We thought it would have been cheaper to do Home Depot but in the end, that wasn't the case. I cannot say enough good things about Clawes Carpets. We bought a new house in October 2014, and all of the carpets needed replaced. We worked with Bobby, who I believe is the owner, and he is honestly such a great guy. He was very personable and professional, and he really knows what he is doing. He worked with us to find the right carpets for us, knowing our needs (kids, pets), budget, and time constraints (we had not yet moved our stuff into the new home and were obviously hoping to have the new carpet installed before moving in). I was very happy with the selections they offer, as well as the pricing, and they were able to get the new carpet installed within a few days of our initial meeting; it was a full house job (two stories, 8 rooms plus staircase), and they got it all done in a few hours. We were very happy with the work done. We also recently had them come out to do a repair/replacement in one room (thanks to our territorial cats), which was also done at a great price and a reasonable time frame. We haven't had them clean the carpets yet, but will be doing that in a month or two, probably. Clawes installed carpet and new hardwoods throughout our townhouse a few years ago. At that time, we didn't know what we wanted, so they provided a lot of great advice and samples to consider to make the process easier. When we sold that and bought a single family home, the first call we made after we got the keys to the house was to Bobby Clawes. I needed new carpeting after being without a dog after 10 years, the carpet was showing its age.  Of the research I did comparing Clawes to other "big stores" they by far were the cheapest overall.  I was greeted promptly by Melissa (I think) I explained my needs and she gave me samples of different options of carpeting at different but still not overly expensive price points.  One of the Clawes family members came out to do the estimate and give me more details about the differences in carpeting and padding options.  Their installers took their time moving my bulky furniture and putting it back in place as well as doing the install.  I still have a few more rooms to be done in my place so I will gladly call them again. Wonderful experiences! I've hired Clawes to replace carpet in four bedrooms at two different times and each has been a no fuss, no hassle, very pleasant experience.
