Popular Hartford eatery for decades under different names. Very large space which accommodates single customers to company parties. Our service was attentive and the food and drinks were good. The dumpling app was not something I'd order again. Nothing about this dish was distinguishable. Entrees were favorable.Our dining companion enjoyed his California chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado. The cod with capers and olives was okay. Something rarely seen on a menu is a ten ounce steak - the choices commonly are either huge or small in terms of size. Cooked a little rarer than ordered at medium well but satisfying. We absolutely loved it here. The pros: food, beer, accommodations for kids, pool tables. We ordered quesadillas, coconut shrimp, pork loin, Mac and cheese, and fruit cobbler. The coconut shrimp was homemade, not from frozen, and came with a homemade pineapple coconut slaw. It was amazing. The pork loin was cooked perfectly and had a sweet, soy based marinade. The vegetables were sauteed perfectly as well. I literally couldn't stop eating. The quesadilla was big and my two boys shared it. My husband really liked the starlit and jungle crush, both tasted like IPAs.The cons: the fruit cobbler was just okay. Our waters did not get filled one time and they were all empty for a while. I've come here for a bunch of HYPE (Hartford Young Professional and Entrepreneurs) events over the past year and I really enjoy their food. They always provide free food for the events, mostly small bites-dumplings, chicken fingers, mini hot dogs, quesadillas, ect. all very good. The bar area is fun, they will have she and trivia. Sometimes it gets packed to go early. They have a variety at the bar not just beers, they have martinis, wine, cocktails, and cider as well. There is also additional seating upstairs and they accommodate large parties. It's a decent sized brewery restaurant with lots of rooms and seating. Ordered the bistro steak which was fantastic, it was cooked to perfection. Tender and Juicy! I ordered it with potatoes and veggies which were packed with flavor. I picked this place because I was traveling all day and it was attached to my hotel, which normally I don't expect much from a hotel restaurant but this place did not disappoint. Went to City Steam for a work outing. We had drinks & appetizers in the dining area. When we sat down there were Happy Hour menus on our table with discounted drinks & apps. We chose a bunch of those, only to be told they only apply to the bar seating. Okay.... so then why were those menus on the dining room tables to begin with!? Moving on... We ordered the chicken quesadillas, coconut shrimp, nachos, pretzel, and buffalo wings. Being a vegetarian, I can only speak to the nachos & pretzels. Nachos were average, they were good. The pretzel was toasted, buttered & salted perfectly and paired with a beer cheese that was good and a horse radish spicy mustard that was really good. Spicy & flavorful. Our waitress was courteous and did a great job, but the waitress that helped bring out drinks was rude. A coworker reminded her that he had ordered 1 other drink. This is on of Hartfords favorite watering hole, more of a micro brewery & pub, a classy joint they have a large variety of micro brewed beer, and they make there own allso, regular pub fare, this place is packed after work for happy hour, on weekends and after events, if you really like obscure beer you have to go.

This is a review of the bar/beer only -- I haven't had the chance to eat here yet. But the bar is great...it's a "bar's bar" with just the right mix of old, dark wood, an unpretentious crowd of what seemed like regulars, and an excellent selection of beers, many if not all made on the premises. (The "Jungle Crush" IPA is top-notch.) I just ordered my first burger from city steam through grubhub and even after the 5 mile ride my burger was great! It was totally at room temperature and I still thought it was excellent, it was juicy, and cooked to a perfect medium.

I have been to City Steam a number of times and I have never been disappointed. We have holiday parties, lunches and happy hours. Today when we stepped in we ordered a good mix of appetizers, entrees and sides. The quesadilla, coconut shrimp and nachos were in good portion. The shrimp along with the mango(I wouldn't call it a chutney though), were really good and appealed to the taste buds. The Buddha bowl was a sumptuous meal for someone craving for vegetarian meal with a nice light flavor. Atlantic salmon which I ordered well done was really good dévoid of fishiness, that being my pet peeve with restaurants serving fish. The hospitality and friendliness we received from the people at City Steam Brewery Cafe was exceptional!We were in town for the first and second round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The manager Andy was extremely generous and supportive of our fans and alumni who came to City Steam prior to the Purdue games. Fans filled all three floors of the brewery!With it being lend, I had the fish tacos and was not disappointed! The unique seasoning on the fish gave it that extra kick from a typical fish taco. My colleague had the classic burger and said it was the best burger in town! A nice place to grab a drinks or dinner with friends. Food:I decided to get the 6oz Bistro Steak. It was super delicious! I opted to get the smaller sized steak and looking back I should of gotten more but it was cooked perfectly and the potatoes on the side were just as delicious . I didn't eat the Brussels sprouts because I'm not a fan but a friend said they were great! I also decided to get the Brownie Sundae Bomb for dessert and it was great. The brownies were a bit hard and at the bottom but overall it was a good dessert. Walked over here from a recent stay at a nearby hotel. The front desk staff suggested it as their restaurant was closed. I was told they had like forty beers on tap which didn't matter to me as I'm not really a beer drinker. I looked up the menu online and figured since it wasn't far I'd check it out. Walking in I immediately noticed the busy bar area but found a place to sit. It was about 5:30pm on a Thursday so there was a large "after work" crowd presence. The bartender quickly approached and asked what I was drinking. I did notice all the beer on tap and that seems to be what most were drinking. The bartender had to open the sealed bottle of jack in his well which I had to giggle about! I asked to see a menu and ordered a wedge salad. The bartender was friendly and sociable with what appeared to be regulars seated at the bar. My salad arrived quickly and tasted fresh. The dressing was different than what I'm used to with a wedge salad but it complimented well. My drinks could've been a better poor for 7.50 each as I'm pretty sure there was barely a shot of jack in each one but oh well. Saturday evening was busy, as usual before a Hartford Wolfpack game.  Had a reservation for 9 seated promptly, bar was backed up, took a bit long 15 minutes for drinks to come.  Service was slow, likely due to staffing and not the servers.  The food was very good.  Appetizers - sausage platter, pretzels and boneless chicken wings.  All very good good quantity and taste.  I had a turkey burger a little 'mushy', tasted more like a veggie burger.  Bottom line : good food, very loud environment, with ok service. I have heard so much about City Steam Brewery and can you believe I just recently decided to give it a try. We were going to see a show at the Hartford Stage and decided on going as is in a walking distance from the theater. I like the ambiance, is very laid back and casual kinda place. We wanted to sit at the bar but it was full and of course it was still happy hour. We went to the hostess stand and got seated right away. Love the different levels of seating that there is. I got the pomegranate margarita, it was the special drink of the day and it was so good that I drank it all within the first few minutes of getting it. For my second drink I went with a strawberry margarita as they no longer had more pomegranate mix. Sad face. My sister tried their beer "pink and white " she loved it.  Food was ok. My sister had the fish tacos. Eh. I had the steak frites and I would have that steak again anytime.  We also tried their grilled mexican corn on the cob. Don't judge a book by its cover.This place may be in the center of Hartford but it is worth the stressful traffic.There is paid parking near by as usual of Hartford. Once you go inside you are greeted by these huge glass doors. The place is much bigger than you would expect. We got 7 flights and 1 beer it came to $13 now that is a very good price. Best pizza I've had in years, and when I mentioned that to folks at work, they seemed surprised due to enjoying other things and not having tried it yet. Highly worthwhile if you enjoy thin crust and brick oven pizza.The brownie sundae... You ought to split between 2 it more people. Ought to. I didn't, and I have no regrets. It was fantastic too.I was staying at the Residence Inn by Marriott and City Stream provides room service - the only gotcha I experienced was simply that City Stream couldn't bring a beer to my room... However, no issues work me picking up my meal and including beer. Well, now we love City Steam for another reason. LUNCH!!  Stopped by to fill some growlers for the holidays and decided get a bite to eat. I had a bowl of Clam Chowder which was huge. And, oh so good. Nice and creamy and the clams were tender. Highly recommended. My husband had a BBQ Chicken Sandwich with Cheddar from the Express Lunch menu-$7! And it came with house made chips and a small bowl of the clam chowder. What a bargain. He said it was a good solid sandwich. (And he can be harsh.) Had great service from Josie-thanks!
