Took a friend of mine from out of town here & soon as we walk to the door we were met by a greeter who was rude. My friend asked a simple question and the response was horrible. As they sat us we were waiting about 15-20 min and no sever came to our table! It wasn't that packed to say it was New Year's Day yet everybody kept passing rite by us to serve & chat with people who weren't black. The Vibe was bad & you can feel that you don't belong if your not white basically. Which sucks because I work hard for my money & tip very well. Tell your staff stop passing judgment by race it's 2022 not 1964. After not being waited for about 25 min we got up & took our business somewhere else. I'll make sure my friends and associates hear about this as well. More...

The food is the best of southern fare. The happy hour is generous and I found most servings large enough to eat family style. I personally love the okra oysters, the baked brie and the crab cakes. We had an amazing time! We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and we couldn't have picked a better place. EVERYTHING was delicious! My husband orders quail, which I don't eat but had to try it. Now I'm a believer! The quail was well seasoned and paired with potatoes and asparagus. It was also extremely tender! I'm definitely going to order this on my next visit! Our party also ordered the rabbit, which was also extremely tender. The fried shrimp, eggplant and crawfish, chargrilled oysters were equally as tasty. I haven't truly enjoyed food like this in quite sometime! Now to the service! Impeccable! We made reservations and the table was ready when we arrived and we were seated immediately. Our server Bailey described the menu items and answered all of our many questions. They even closed the doors to give our party more privacy. I suggest everyone paying Rouj Creole a visit. It's well worth the visit! More...

My husband surprised me with a trip here on our anniversary and it did not disappoint!! The cocktails were very good and strong. We had the bbq shrimp as an appetizer and my only critique is that the grits were not needed. They were a little bland but the shrimp were the definite star of the show! I could have eaten ten more plates of them! The entree was the filet mignon with fried soft shell crabs and lump crabmeat and it was DIVINE!!!! I was too full for dessert but the offerings looked very good! I would recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be returning!! More...

We anticipated a wonderful meal in this upscale cajun/creole establishment...However, we were sadly disappointed. We started with appetizers of frog legs, which were very small and the breading came off when you took a bite (obviously frozen) and Boudin balls, which were just mushy and tasted as did the frog legs, like chicken wings. We also had seafood gumbo which had a good flavor roux, but the seafood was minimal and what we could find was mushy (obviously overcooked). Our entrees were average - French creole dip sandwich: just average, nothing to write home about. Shrimp PoBoy sandwich: once again average, shrimp were fried well, came with no sauce. Fried Oyster and Shrimp plate: this was quite tasty. Not the BEST, but okay. We finished with bread pudding which was good consistency, but had no flavor. Sauce on top was pretty good. Our Server was attentive and positive. He helped with our wine when we had to make another choice due to our first choice was not available.Overall, good experience, but we weredisappointed with the quality of food served. When we visit Baton Rouge next, we will be dining somewhere else. More...

This was a "one and done" for us.  First, with all the open tables, we still had to wait for one.  Once seated, the busser brought water, but didn't see a server for quite some time.  She didn't seem to care. Once we ordered, salads came in a timely manner, followed immediately by our entrees.  I truly felt speed-dined.  As a former restaurant manager, I would have severely reprimanded any server who did that to any diner that had not asked for it.Since it didn't seem like we were welcomed, it didn't seem to be necessary to complain to management.So.....One and done! Mattie, Danielle and Nick at the bar were wonderful and very attentive.  The one dish not shown because I ate it too fast was the brie appetizer - it's called a shareable but there is no way I would have shared it with ANYONE - it was that good.  In regard to the bread pudding Mattie suggested the cheesecake or the brownie and I was going for the brownie but mentioned I had never understood why people liked bread pudding and she said if I was going to try it I needed to try theirs.  Even said she would get me the brownie if I didn't like the bread pudding.  Needless to say I have to go back for the brownie.  The entire meal was great and the service was fantastic!!!  Definitely a place to try. This restaurant is a must go!!Everything was absolutely delicious here. We weren't even hungry when we arrived but the food was so good that it made us hungry. The classic chargrilled oysters were done well, very garlicky and cheesy. But the oysters could have been cleaned better and deshelled first. The crab claws were everything I wanted. Each claw had the shells taken off and it was super easy to eat. The sauce was to die for. I definitely used the bread to soak up more of that sauce.I was also super impressed by the duck beignets. The inside was moist, and sauced/seasoned perfectly. The duck was savory and the beignets was just slightly sweet. This is a 11/10 on balance of flavor and texture. The gumbo was flavorful but unfortunately came lukewarm. The hash was delicious and so was the catfish and grits. But the most unique main dish was the sweet tea chicken sandwich. The chicken was tender and you could taste the sweet tea brine slightly coming through. I can't express how amazing every dish was here and overall a slam dunk. This is a restaurant I would go out of my way for and travel to come back to. More...

This place is fantastic!  I'm not going to lie, I was a bit apprehensive when I walked in because the attitude of the guy who appeared to be the manager was awful. Our server and the food made up for it real quick though!  We were there for happy hour so all of the appetizers were 1/2 off. We tried the crab cakes, crawfish boudin balls, baked Brie and fried oysters and okra. The crab cakes were quite possibly the best I've ever had!!  The flavor was excellent and they were cooked to perfection. The sauce was fantastic as well! The baked Brie was also some of the best I've ever had. The Brie was cooked perfectly with a crisp shell on the outside and it was covered with a sauce that was to die for. The crawfish boudin balls aren't your traditional boudin ball, but they were good in their own right. The jalapeño jelly on top was a good touch. The fried oysters were melt in your mouth good!  The batter was tasty and the oysters were cooked to perfection. The dipping sauce was nice and spicy and complimented them well. The fried okra left a little to be desired as it was a bit tough. I think it could have been a little more pickled. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is due to the rudeness of the manager.
