My absolute favorite bakery in all of NYC. This gem is hidden in a basement on 18th street. The delicious smells rise up from below and draw you in.  I was so impressed with their customer service when making my mom and stepdad's customers wedding cake, executing beautifully and tasting even better! My entire family has also been long time half-pound cookie connoisseurs - and we could not recommend them more. Probably one of the best cookies I've tried in NYC - this is not an exaggeration. Their half pound cookies are huge and great for sharing. I came with a bunch of friends and tried the red velvet cookie. It is AMAZING. So soft and filled with a cream cheese filling. We brought cookies from a few other well known bakeries, and City Cakes was by far the best. One great thing was that i noticed the cookie keeps well for a few days after! The other cookies I brought became stiff and hard and needed to be nuked for a bit. But this one was still soft. The bakery itself if a bit tight and down a few steps so it can be easy to miss. Loved my order from city cakes! These cookies do not disappoint. They are still so soft when you get them, I even froze a couple and when thawed out they were soft. They are really good if you pop them in the microwave for a few seconds, but they don’t even need it. The pricing for the cookies, as big as they are is great too! I first heard about city cakes Oct 2016 through some YouTubers I followed, then last year I finally got to try them after a friend brought me some to celebrate after my first Bikini competition! They were the perfect treat & I have been lucky enough to have them a few more times since then. I was able to visit their shop earlier this year :D and then got some more cookies for after my bikini competition this year too!! I have tried just about every flavor and you can't go wrong!First they are HUGE!! I mean a 1/2lb if pure yummy goodness! My favorite flavor so far is the Almond Matcha cookie! These cookies are good fresh, frozen, warmed up after being frozen...any way possible! All their cookies are just perfect texture and nail the flavors! For starters, these cookies are to die for. The sugar doodle is my fav. Then the chocolate chip. Third fav would be the Nutella stuffed mocha chip. I’m ordering the oatmeal raisin and pumpkin one after I post this review. Price is on point for the quality. And to top it off, this company is owned by the most stellar humans. Recommended especially for dark chocolate lovers.I'd say the flavor profile of this cookie is less sweet than Levain's while being equally chocolatey, and a good level of moistness. You're going to miss it if you're not looking for it. It's a small staircase that leads to a small, nyc-style closet space surrounded by beautiful cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. I haven't strayed from my tried and true - almond-flavored frosting with a chocolate chip cookie. I'm a huge lover of frosting and this just does the trick for my sugar cravings. Why haven't I strayed from this choice? It's seriously that good. I've had maybe 10+ of these in the past two months, and have yet to get sick of it. I consider this place a hidden gem, and wish them great business but hope it doesn't turn out to have huge lines someday. I first went there after a fitness instructor kept mentioning them on ig . I poorly planned a surprise delivery of a box of cookies to my friend's apartment in the city. My friend was not answering the door, so the delivery person had to turn around and bring them back to the store. I e-mailed them with an apology for the inconvenience and for my poor planning skills and asked them if there was anything they could do, expecting nothing since it was my mistake! Chef Marc then wrote me back a surprising e-mail where he said he was shocked that I apologized and that they would be happy to re-deliver them or have someone pick them up at no extra cost. I then asked if I could pick them up and they were even kind enough to throw in an extra box of goodies just because I apologized for my mistake. People need to stop writing bad reviews based on their own bad behavior. I was so happily pleased with their responsiveness and their kindness. My friend recommended this place to me and I didn't know that cookies could taste this good until I came here. Firstly, this place is like a little hole-in-the wall place, underground. They have stamp cards, so make sure you get one of those so you can stock up on these delicious half pound cookies. AND they have snickerdoodle flavor which is my favorite ever! The cookies are crispy on the outside and thick and soft on the inside. It's like eating a cookie cake. I also tried the chocolate chip flavor and that was DELICIOUS. Where to start? From their incredible looking and tasting cakes (we still talk about our wedding cake to this day) to their cupcakes and half pound cookies, the one regret we have about moving to NJ is no longer being a subway ride away from City Cakes! While the treats are delicious an added bonus to visiting the shop is seeing what's happening beyond the counter. What masterpiece is being sculpted or painted or carried out. We had a clear vision for our wedding cake and Benny knocked it out of the park. Now, two kids later, we make sure that City Cakes is always one of the stops we make when we are in NYC and the kids are big fans as well.
