This place is a hidden gem! The moment you walk in you feel so welcomed by the manager and the staff. The ambience is refreshing. Food was delicious and the fresh smoothies were delightful. Place is a bit hidden but what a great discovery! Food was 10/10 but my the hospitality was 100/10 the owner and staff were so kind & attentive. Felt right at home! Ordered a burger, calamari, & wings to play it safe & even that was great. Owner gave us afro sauce to try, that was so good. We dipped it in everything haha. He explained they use it in a lot of their foods. They have a very wide selection on their menu with an islander twist. Definitely coming back to explore more of the menu. Delicious!! My husband and I needed to past time and found this little gem. My husband ordered the Afro wings which he loved and I stole 2 from him because 1 wasn't enough. I ordered the spinach stew with beef. It was very reminiscent of a dish I would eat growing up. Served with rice and grilled veggies. Everything was so good we will be back to try some of the other dishes for sure. You definitely can't eat here without trying their hibiscus drink, which is very refreshing. Passing by this place daily and haven't been until today, doesn't seem like much going inside just a typical little taqueria looking spot. The food here is AMAZING. Went in for breakfast and had the shrimp omelette, so good. The omelette was served with potatoes and I added two slices of bacon. The owner is hands on working side by side with his team making sure your meal is excellent and make no mistake, it will be. Make sure to try the freshly brewed tea. I am normally not a tea lover but the first time I tried a sample, I slid my unopened can of soda back and asked for a large glass of their tea and had a glass to go on my way out. The food here was fantastic! I had the Afro Burger and it was super juicy and delicious. My wife had the Chicken Shawarma and she really enjoyed it. We both had the Hibiscus drink (It is like Horchata, but in a Hibiscus drink instead of milk) and it was super refreshing and very good. On top of all that, the service was incredible. Tamba from Guinea West Africa has a small diner on Watt, just north of I-80.  We had the good fortune of stumbling upon it by doing a Yelp search for breakfast in cal expo area.  Upon giving it a try, we were blown away by the simplicity and great taste/flavor of the breakfast food especially the sauces.  I had the Signature Omelet and She had some pancakes, eggs and bacon.  The omelet included the Spicy Breakfast and Signature Sauces.  Just before that when ordering, we got a taste of the Hibiscus Tea which was very refreshing and perfect for a hot Sacramento day.  Maybe a little sweet but mo betta than a soda for lunch or dinner.  For breakfast, ours was just a couple cups of coffee which was fine and much better than your usual breakfast place, tasted more like a Peets or Starbucks.   As I was taking my first bite, Tamba asked if I wanted a little hot sauce.  That's when he won me over!  That sauce was so damn good, I had to buy some more to take home.  It's a recipe he brings from his home in Guinea.   It has some heat so I asked him if it had some Scotch Bonnet Pepper.  He smiles and tells me that it's made of nine different pepper all red and yellow including a little Scotch Bonnet.  When I ask him about the tiny sweetness, he explains that it's a natural sweetness from the yellow peppers.  He goes on to explain that they are in the process of bottling it but need to figure out how to preserve it.  He sells me some fresh hot sauce out of his refrig.  I'm planning to go back with some friends for dinner.  If you plan on going for dinner, be sure to check ahead of time to make sure they're open. We came across Chulla's on Yelp after a hike and we were not disappointed. If you're thinking about stopping in, do it. The owner and their team were so welcoming and even let us sample the hibiscus tea they make fresh (which I totally recommend). I ordered the coco loco shrimp and my partner had one of the afro burgers. Both dishes were fresh, very well prepared and absolutely delicious. A diamond in North Highlands!! My family ordered the Bantu Calamari, Chicken Shawarma, Grilled Salmon with Roasted Veggies, Jungle Crevette (Shrimp Scampi), Aloko (Fried Plantains), and Fresh Hibiscus Tea. Everything was flavorful and delicious.  Our family kept sampling food off each other's plates. You can tell Chulla's takes pride in their food: from the fresh ingredients to the mastery use of spices and textures. I must mention the calamari because, unlike other restaurants who cook the ubiquitous small rings and tentacles and is often too oily, Chulla's prepared large rings, and the light breading literally flaked off the rings as I picked them up with a fork. Perfection!!  The hibiscus tea was equally amazing. I'm not a fan of sweet drinks, and I was expecting this tea to be too sweet. However, while I consider this tea to be sweet, it was tamed by level of hibiscus and other spices that created a wonderful balance. I definitely would expect this caliber of restaurant in the Bay Area or downtown, let alone in North Highlands. Honestly, the pictures of the food don't do it justice. We stopped by here impulsively after arriving from the airport and let me just say, we had the best breakfast ever!!!!! I had the Ham Bagel and it was seasoned so perfectly. The flavor was out of this world and my brother and mom agreed even though they ordered completely different plates. And these sauces! The sauces are so good, I wanted to take more home with me. I don't live locally but if I did I would come here everyday. It's a pretty new establishment but we will 100% continue to support this small business when we visit. You have to go here because everything is good and tastes fantastic! You won't regret it.
