It took four years, four days and four hours to close out my divorce, which may have been one of the most combative in Utah history. I'm glad Steve Christensen and Clinton Brimhall handled my case. I had a hostile ex-wife, a hostile opposing attorney who never communicated, and we were working against a home cooked legal system. Steve asked me what the most important issues were in my case. I told him the following: 1. Equal division of marital assets. 2. No alimony. 3. No legal fees paid to the other. 4. And most importantly, to honor Sorensen v. Sorensen (1992 Utah Court of Appeals) which would prevent my ex-wife from offsetting all 29 years of material asset accumulation against my earnings in a single person LLC with no goodwill or tangible assets. Steve said it was okay to lose on the lessor things as long as we won in the bigs things. We capitulated on some very minor issues but won on ALL major matters. Steve and Clinton had to take my case to the Utah Court of Appeals and won on all four issues. I will receive my half of pensions, retirement accounts, equity in home and other tangible assets--which otherwise I never would have acquired. Writ of Executions are in place to enforce the remaining judgement against my ex-spouse and honor the Utah Court of Appeals remand against the lower court. Steve and Clinton said the law wins in the end. They both were correct. Thank you Steve and Clinton. More...
