We love Chili Smith! Steve is the best. My son's favorite day of the month is when we pick up our Ranch Hand Chili and bake some cornbread to go with it .

The best place to get heirloom beans for making your own favorite recipes. Already prepared chili is available in frozen containers. On Saturday's a stand is open for lunch with chili and hotdogs. Also available is a delicious vegetarian outlaw dog (made from carrots) that is fantastic and homemade lemonade. Only available on Saturday. Only problem is he is open for limited hours. More...

I've been driving buy this place for a while and thought about stopping and finally did. So glad I did. I will go there for beans from now on. Amazing selection of heirloom beans grown and processed locally. Steve was so friendly and helpful. They also had Traylor Ranch mandarins from Loomis which were incredible. So much more flavorful than the Cuties you get in the store. I haven't cooked any of the beans yet but base on how they look I am certain they will be exceptional. They do have some cooking classes offered too which I am definitely planning on trying. More...

Wherever I saw the article that featured this gem in our community, thank you. No, really Thank you! A lot of time had past since I read that article about an interesting local store that sells heirloom beans. Finally a few days ago, I was driving on Fair Oaks Blvd. and saw the ChiliSmith sign. I made a mental note to stop by on my way back. I was warmly greeted right away by Steve and he started to tell me about the goods in the store. I was amazed by how beautiful all the beans look and packaged. Then I learned that they have a range of house made chilis frozen to go. They have meat chili with pork and beef, black bean lean chili with turkey, vegan chili, and vegetable chili. Chilismith also carries locally made sauces, honey, and other products. Steve asked what kinds of  dishes I make with beans. I just started cooking with fresher dried beans as pot of beans and know they can taste terrific. He suggested I try the Good Mother Stallard bean. I got a lb and a small tub of their house meat chili to try. I've cooked some of the Good Mother Stallard bean with some garlic, bay leave, and epazote. I tried them mashed with a bit of olive oil. And boy are they tasty!! We also tried the chili. I'm afraid we will have to go back and get a larger package. It is the best chili I've ever tasted. It has a really balanced spice flavor, rich bean and meat flavor and body, and not too salty. It is REALLY good. Guess we'll have to try the other chilis! Now that the temps have dropped in Sac, it's bean soup time. My husband is eager to get some bean soup mixes for cold weather meals. We are so glad to have finally discovered ChiliSmith!! More...

I am so Chili with this! The Smith family has opened an Heirloom Bean store. This is "gold" in the Bean world. You can meander thru the store and check out all the Locally Grown Bean varieties. NON GMO Organic! We chose the Black Bean Soup Mix, The  eye of The Goat Chili Beans and Seasonings, and the Runner Cannellini Beans for my grandma Adelina's secret Minestrone recipe! Can't wait to to cook up some recipes .. but we are waiting to attend their cooking class /tasting this Wednesday evening! Folks hit their website for classes , Recipes, and interests and come check this out! We are thrilled for this! And with summer upon us , remember the endless addition of truly flavorful beans to all your summer salads. Mr. Smith is well versed In so many different ideas for your liking.. and so many chefs that all of open cook books for recipes .. so I bet he will help you with whatever you feel like cooking up with Beans! I have been buying these wonderful dried heirloom beans from Steve Smith for the last three and one half years. They are the absolute best - flavorful and very fresh. I have not been to the store yet (but I am happy to find out it is open), but look forward to going. I have bought from Chili Smith Family Foods on-line and at the Mountain Mandarin Festival every fall in Auburn. Highly recommended! More...

This is the place to buy the best beans you ever will cook. Steve is the man to teach you everything you ever wanted to know about beans. I cooked my favorite bean soup using the cannellini beans. My only problem was finding a nearby butcher to purchase the ham hock I needed! We desperately need a real butcher shop in Carmichael. The 8 persons who ate my soup gave me. 5 + star rating. I am looking forward to attending a cooking class in the new year. I won't be buying beans anywhere else. And oh, you can also buy special dried pasta, homemade chili, and spices at the store. Gift baskets are also available. I only wish the hours of the store were more frequent in the morning during the week. More...

I recently stopped in to see what Chili Smith had and was so surprised at the fantastic heirloom beans!  I met Steve, who had time to explain the beans and the other products on their shelves.   I ended up purchasing two frozen small batch chili's.  I try to eat vegan and there were two that would work.  I just had the Heirloom Black Bean with root vegetable chili for dinner and we all enjoyed it thoroughly!   Now that the weather is a chillier fall, a bowl of homemade chili is perfect.   I also want to take one of the classes offered, since as a vegan, beans are a wonderful staple.  But these are not just a bean, their are heirloom with wonderful names, too!!  I encourage everyone to in the area of Fair Oaks blvd in Carmichael and Sacramento to stop in to explore their products! Wow this place is so cool.  I was just driving by and decided to pop in.  It was like a history lesson in beans.  Picked up a few lbs of Lina Cisco bird egg beans.  All their stuff is heirloom which means they haven't been altered for over 150 years or so.  Non GMO organic.  I love that stores like this exist and i hope people take the time to stop in. This is a little family-owned jewel in Carmichael. They're focused on heirloom beans, and if you need a friendly introduction to dried beans they also have things like chili mixes--buy the mix, take it home, follow the directions, and you'll be hooked! The Smith family opened their storefront in April or May 2017. Currently they're only open on Saturdays from 10:00-2:00, but it's definitely worth putting onto your weekend schedule. More...
