I remember seeing The Coasters and The Platters at Fridays After Five well before the pavilion was built. I remember all the smells from the old bookstores and antique stores my grandmother made me rummage through for hours on end when I was 4 years old. I remember reuben sandwiches and chocolate egg creams at The Hardware Store and venturing down to the bookstore to look at the ancient barber's chair. I remember when the hardest decision I had to make was what flavor ice cream to get from Chaps. I remember signing my first library card at the Jefferson Madison Library. Although some things have changed, I am beyond blessed to be able to share a lot of these same experiences with my son. More...

Charlottesville's Downtown Mall is extremely unique - with locally-owned shops and restaurants that you won't find anywhere else. The Pedestrian walking mall is fantastic in almost all weather (!), a great place for people watching or just an afternoon stroll. Just the right amount of Southern Charm. More...

There is an excessive amount of overly-hostile homeless people swearing, urinating, fighting, drinking, littering, selling/doing drugs in front of children, OH YEA and constantly sexually harassing women that are walking to their jobs or out for entertainment. And while the mall is constantly patrolled by mall police (Paul Blarts), they do little to nothing at all to monitor / control the situation. More...

Love the Mall, great place for a walk, dining, or having a drink or a coffee! One of the rare places you don’t have to look at the parking lot when seated in any cafe or a restaurant.

Charlottesville has a vibrant spirit with so much diversity and beauty. Aside from the recent attention brought by ONE SIDE we must remain vigilant to keep our story clear. Even the free speech wall in front of City Hall has room for contrasting opinions. I proudly etched a Star of David to honor those who are among us who are Jewish and are welcome. Perhaps next time I will etch a pink triangle or a symbol for LGBTQA (queer / allies). Busker's on horn or violins, guitar, harmonica or drums... all a welcomed rhythm for strolling and greeting familiar faces as well as embracing old friends. Come experience for yourself one of the Crown Jewels of urban planning and the truly lovely atmosphere it creates when people of every class and stripe mingle among the shops and eateries. More...

Charlottesville's downtown mall is the shining jewel of a beautiful little hippy town. Bookstores, international restaurants, eclectic shops, a children's Discovery Museum, a carousel, The Pavilion for lovely free (Fridays After 5) and paid concerts. And the single best feature? The Free Speech Wall where you can write (or draw) in chalk whatever you like, poetry, prose, or political satire. And at the end of the week, it's washed away so that others can pen... or chalk their heart's thoughts or prayers. More...

I met my husband here. He is fourth generation Charlottesvillion. Most of my lifetime friendships were made in this town. This city is beautiful and has so much to offer . The brick-paved downtown, Friday's After Five, The Pavilion, C-Ville & The Hook, UVA, and so much more. It was high on the list for best places to raise a family and best place to live. The people who live here and own small businesses here are good hard working people. They genuinely want people to visit and fall in love with the place they love. More...

We came here almost 18 yrs ago and decided to try Charlottesville on for size and see if it would be a place we would want to live. We booked a hotel room at the Marriott Residence Inn at Barracks Road and just hung out here for a week. After one week, we sold our business, sold our house in a matter of days and moved in six weeks later. We are now realtors here and love to tell everybody how great our decision was! Not once, even this weekend, have we regretted our decision and have been downtown five of the last seven days still enjoying our choice, albeit with an accompanying sadness and somberness after the event Saturday and the tragic loss of the two state troopers and Heather Heyer and the others who suffered injuries. Please come and shop, dine, walk, sip wine and eat chocolate and listen to the music (at the Pavillion or spontaneous street performers). Grab a chair and just people watch, by the way four legged family members are welcome too! Take the kids to the Discovery museum and stop for an ice cream at Chaps! A simple start to exploring downtown-there is so much more More...
