Charley's Waterfront Cafe

Charley's used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is still great but unfortunately I cannot still say the same for the food. They used to have superb meatloaf which they no longer serve. Today I got a French dip sub and it was just okay. It was on par with something I expect I could get at a chain restaurant. One of my other party got a hamburger. They asked for well done but what was served was so burnt it might as well been a charcoal brick. They should have been embarrassed to serve it. Amanda is a big influence in my review. She is an outstanding bartender with an even better attitude. The delicious food paired with her constantly changing drink menu makes this place a gem! 10/10 go see her in the bar.

In previous years, I had always enjoyed my time at Charley's. However, I decided to have a party for my birthday at the restaurant 9/2/2023. It was a party of a little over 20 people. We only had one server. The food came out hours after people ordered. The food wasn't even being served in the order that people placed their order. The first person to order their food received their food last, out of 20+ people with it already being late! The server did not engage much with anyone either, but she was at least patient. Afterwards, I wrote a polite email to the manager who helped me setup the event to let him know how the night went and he never responded. I wasn't expecting anything in return, but at least an "I'm sorry the event turned out that way. I'll make sure we improve moving forward." I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed to have brought people there. It may be a good place for you and 1-2 more people, but I do not recommend hosting events there. More...

We walked in to an almost empty restaurant at 1:45pm on a Tuesday afternoon and asked to sit outside. Only 4 tables had customers on the deck. 2 tables were empty along the water that seat 4. We asked to sit at either but were refused because we were a party of 2. We told the hostess that we came here to dine along the river specifically but she still refused. I love the fact that this place has live music! And you can eat outside and enjoy the weather! I try to come here every so often because the food is good and it's a nice place to hang out and relax. Our waitress is very friendly and quick, and so is our food! Of course, you can't really mess up a salad or burgers. Wow, what a terrible experience. My salad was smothered in a glob of too-thick shredded cheese and the lettuce was warm and wilted like it had been sitting on the counter for hours. My $39 steak was about a quarter inch thick and looked like it had been (over) cooked in a microwave and then branded with fake grill marks. The scalloped potatoes could have been from some potluck church supper (not in a good way) and the squash looked like it was just microwaved and thrown on a plate. No seasoning whatsoever and several pieces were mostly raw. My companion ordered a dish with meatballs. She had to ask for a steak knife to cut them they were so tough and dry. First off, beautiful restaurant, so much character, not too loud. Loved the ambiance. Service was incredible. Our server Alex was so personable, extremely polite, and very attentive. This is my second time at Charley's. The first was unremarkable. The restaurant is nice and the service was very good. Our food came out fairly quickly. I should have gone with a salad or just a the burger, but I dared try the crap cake sandwich. I asked the waitress if it was a true Chesapeake Bay style (lump crab) and if it was something she had tried. She said it was very good. She must have never had a real crab cake. Sadly, missed the mark by a mile. What I got was a very thin, tasteless, crab cake consisting of finely chopped crab, no seasoning, and several shells. The rest of the sandwich was a decent bun, a slice of tomato with a hard core, and an average remoulade. The fries were disappointing only because I don't love coated fries. They were crispy and fine if you like that style. I think Charley's does an OK business because they are right. They are at the Green Front stores.
