Catholic Charities Caritas Mental Health Clinic

I would just like to give an overwhelming thanks to the volunteer at the Catholic Charities food pantry for offering to play with Alora while I did my shop because she was crying(quite loudly), and when I said “no, I can handle it” she offered to get her a book or a stuffed animal. Through her tears and sniffles Alora said “yeah, okay” and the volunteer left and returned with a toy stuffed tiger. Alora’s mood COMPLETELY turned around and she stopped screaming and began to talk to and pet the tiger and help me choose our groceries. She even picked out some rainbow tomatoes for snack time! To the woman in line before us asking me to “make her shut up,” and telling Alora she is “a bad baby,” and telling me I should “just spank her,” clearly kindness was the answer today. We waited 90 minutes for our turn to shop the food pantry. Her lunch was late, her nap was late. She was having the worst time possible in those 90 minutes and somehow made it till right before our turn came and the thing that instigated her upset was my holding her at the counter that you show your ID at and get your shopping list. Sue Hanks with her Emergency Services staff & volunteers provide an incredible service for the Marines Toys For Tots program of the Marine Corps League Valhalla detachment. They do the 'seemingly-impossible' to create space in a crowded facility to accommodate the collection & distribution of toys to those less-fortunate children of our community.
