Castaway Burbank

Our wedding last Friday was amazing. The location, the staff, and the venue were the perfect trifecta allowing us to experience this beautiful celebration to the fullest. We first committed to the Castaway during their wedding expo. We connected with Michelle Roy who helped us through every step of the way in the months leading up to the ceremony. Michelle you were so good to us! The day of the wedding was flawless, the food was way beyond our already high expectations. The short ribs were incredible! The views at the location that we grew to love over the years living not too far away were majestic. came here on Saturday September 7th for our 33rd. wedding anniversary and the remodel and food was excellent. we both had the dry aged rib eye with triclolor cauliflower and roasted brussel sprouts as side. hands down the best steak I've ever eaten here and we been here many times in the past. will be back soon. highly recommend this place now.. since there remodel it's a whole new experience with far greater food. wish they would bring Sunday buffet back.. miss it. As someone who works with people for a living, I hold customer service to a very high standard. That being said, this could have easily been a 1 star review because of the inattentive and rude front desk/"concierge" at this establishment. ..and then having to wait for 25 minutes with my family without so much as a glass of water. We clearly arrived at a bad time.. 4:30 on a Sunday. I'm guessing they were in the middle of a transition to dinner or whatever because there were so many tables waiting to be served (still no excuse for the unpleasant woman at the front). HOWEVER once our waitress came flying in to save the day, my family and I completely forgot we were ever upset about anything!! What a frickin incredibly amazing girl with an infectious smile and happy demeanor named KAYLA!! We were celebrating my dad's birthday and by the end of our time there, he was ready to adopt her into the family! That's how she made us feel...like we were all family and she had known us forever. What a difference good service can truly make at a restaurant of this caliber. Beware, PRICEY STUFF! Thankfully, everything we got was delicious.Kayla definitely guided us in the right direction. SEA BREAM FISH, CAULIFLOWER, BONE-IN RIBEYE (ADD A LOBSTER TAIL!), MUSHROOM PASTA WITH SHRIMP, AND PLEASE GET THAT CHEESE AND MEAT PLATE!! YUUMMM!! What an incredible experience with a beautiful view and expert ambiance. My friend and I sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the skilled charcuterie chef, Nick, and entertaining bartender, Derek. Derek has a way of making every customer feel special with a hand crafted cocktail and an ounce of humor (rose petal for the ladies)! We found ourselves laughing at the banter. I was invited for a wedding this weekend at Castaway. I had never been here before so I was pleasantly impressed with the overall service of the wedding! The bartenders were great, it was clean, beautiful area where the bride and groom were married. Afterwards we were in the reception hall and the service was great. The Staff was very friendly and worked very hard to get the food out to all the party. My man (Deon) made a joke because it was late in the night and my girl wanted an espresso. He said he would have to go ALL the way to restaurant to get one instead of just getting coffee that they were offering at the party. Well 10 minutes later Deon came back with two espressos!! He did what it took to make us happy, and we weren't even expecting him to do that. This is what keeps people coming back to your establishment and puts a very good taste in your mouth. Another server we had named Sammy worked very hard and was attentive to everything we needed. Not one thing went wrong for us. I attribute that to the planning of the Bride and Groom and also the staff and the management. (Good service is hard if not impossible to find these days). Katie is the BOMB! She had so much energy and kept us laughing. My friends and I are a lot to handle and she was a great sport and when above and beyond to contribute to all the fun we were having. I went to Castaway last night with my co-workers as a reward dinner and it did not disappoint! I've been once before so I knew how great the recent remodel is and I was super excited for all the great photo ops (I think there were at least 4 boomerangs and several dozen sunset pics). The view is stunning, atmosphere is swanky and food was great. But the service, that was truly the shining star of the night! Kaylah was incredibly attentive to our group of 7. She made sure that we had drinks and appetizers right away (super creamy west coast oysters and shrimp cocktail) and gave us great recommendations on what to order. My group was very particular on how they wanted their steaks cooked, so she recommended that they butterfly a few and everyone was super happy with how they turned out! Our one pescatarian ordered the cobia, which was delicious but a tad overcooked. Kaylah also recommended the cauliflower side and it was probably my favorite. We finished our night with the Midnite in Paris dessert tower - such a delight! This was the perfect dessert for a crowd (and for the gram). I've been coming to Castaways every so often for work events and just to have dinner when we want to go somewhere special for at least 8 years. I love the decor of this restaurant and the view is spectacular. The food tastes pretty good too. Not the best, but definitely better than average. The ribeye that I had was pretty yummy. I didn't like the crab cake and their bread and green butter. The scallops were pretty good, but a bit small for sea scallops. Their shrimp cocktail presentation is pretty cool since they use dry ice. I will definitely go back! More...

We went to the Castaway this evening and had a party of 18 people. Normally a party of this size you would expect some issues to arise with food, drinks, which wold be normal. HOWEVER, everything was absolutely wonderful and our server, Kayla, and her assistant, were superb. Service was prompt; the appetizers were delivered on time; the main meal for everyone was served hot; the water glasses were filled and never empty; the table was cleared promptly when the dishes were emptied from food; the follow through with alcohol and other beverages being offered and served was also spot on.I mean there were no issues at all and our out-of town guests from New York were just stunned of how efficient Kayla and her assistant - only two of them - managed such a large group.The food, also as always was exceptional. I and my wife had the salmon, friends next to me had the chicken. The sauces that accompanied the broccoli were outstanding. Now my wife and I frequent many many restaurants and have been lucky enough to eat at some of the finest restaurants in LA and the West Coast and I can easily recommend the Castaway not only for the location and the food, but the service as well. That is why when we called the manager, Chris, over as well as speaking to Derek, to let them know what an exceptional staff they had and how well the both of them, as managers,  are operating this location. They were so gracious and friendly which is why the Castaway continues to be one of the areas great hot spots for many years.  BTW.. this is the second time that Kayla has been the server for members of our group. Therefore, this consistent track record of providing marvelous service is not a fluke or a one-off. but shows that it is in her core, of caring and making sure people have a great time! More...

Unrivaled views! Valet is 5$ , The food is great and the drinks are strong. Would definitely come back. The waitress was extremely nice she even gave us free dessert. Our 40th wedding vows renewal was a dream come true. Working with Arianna Garibo was a joy! She's extremely professional and managed to take care of every detail to perfection which resulted in the most stress-free event for us and everyone in attendance. Their amazing chef impressed everyone with the most beautiful and delicious appetizers and main entrees. Their entire staff was extremely attentive to our needs and that of our guests. Rosie, our coordinator, kept everything flowing smoothly and making sure we were happy and pleased; meeting all of our needs above and beyond. Our evening was absolutely magical; so elegant that are guests are still talking about it. We have enjoyed the Castaways for the last 30+ years but after their renovation, this is absolutely the place to hold your special events. Came here for brunch yesterday and had the best time. I love brunch more than I love most people in my life so when I go, it's a big deal. A huge to-do. I've contemplated matching t-shirts for whoever comes with me. The only negative part of our Castaway experience came right in the beginning. The hostesses up in front were not friendly at all. We had a group of 5 and we were standing in front of the desk for legitimately about 5 minutes before any of them acknowledged us. There were other guests but a quick "we'll be right with you" or "just a second" goes a long way. The girl was straight up looking through me like we didn't exist until I finally said something and she acted surprised. This was one of our last meals in LA and the one that we decided to splurge on to feel a little fancy. It was probably super obvious to people in there, including the staff, that we weren't the typical clientele of this place but I still expect to be treated as well as any other guest there. Hostesses were perfectly friendly to other clients but treated us like we were bothering them. Now that that's out of the way - everything else was AMAZING. We got there a little late at 2:30pm and brunch ends at 3 so we had to move fast to get our mimosa fix in. Our waiter was really really sweet and always made sure we had full drinks. The food was awesome. I got the smoked salmon benedict and my boyfriend had the chicken & waffles. Both were unbelievably good. My portion for the benedict wasn't huge, just enough to feel comfortably full, but those chicken and waffles were huge. Everything was amazingly good and the view of LA is absolutely unmatched. The restaurant looks modernized and sophisticated after going under renovation.  The patio and the view are mesmerizing, especially at nighttime. Get reservation a head of time to get a patio seat.
