Casa del Barco at Canal Walk

We had a double date here over the weekend and had the best time. Despite the technical issues the restaurant was experiencing, our dinner was fantastic. Their system had gone down so the kitchen was moving very slowly. We were told this right upfront and were given the advice of how to order so that things kept moving in a timely fashion. We ordered guac which was tasty as always. The chips are yummy too with the spices they sprinkle on there. Our server was fun and friendly and kept us well hydrated!  The manager came around a few times to check on us and she even played a card game with us at our table (it was a fun way to give us a free taco for next time due to our wait). We got great recommendations on food and drink and never once did we feel forgotten about, or irritated about the wait. Once we got our food it was delicious. I got the Carne Asada and I loved it...the steak was cooked perfectly, the potatoes were crispy and the sauce was divine. My friend got a spicy margarita which she loved. the chips they serve when we were seated had some sort of spice on them. Yummy with their house salsa.The wine list is tiny and predominantly South American. Good margaritas.  And they have a dozen to chose from. I tried  the  blood orange. Mmm!Very cool decor. What a fun fiesta!  Our family came to this casual, sultry eatery for dinner and we were not disappointed!  This place is electrifying!  The excitement is palatable.  It's got a party vibe and a bubbly atmosphere.  The open décor is tastefully appointed with suspended, glistening globes of light and artistic murals.  Of particular note, are the well placed tables.  One of my pet peeves, is a restaurant that crams in too many tables.  Here, you have some elbow room!  We gave our names to the hostess, then went to the bar for drinks while waiting to be texted for our table.  The bar was buzzing with action and the bar tenders were flawlessly keeping up with the orders!  We went with some mango margaritas that were delicious, icy and refreshing!  I'll have another please! Our table for six seemed intimate despite being in the center of the restaurant, due to the wavy wall separating the patrons.  We all loved the comfy chairs and wanted to take them home with us!  Nestled in our hip huggers, we pored over appetizing menu.  Promptly, our server, Felicia, brought us spicy tortillas and salsa!  We ordered the guac and queso as well!  The guac was fresh and chunky, the queso was creamy with a nice bite to it!  We all wanted tacos!! So we got the taco party platter, a dozen tacos, choice of 4 flavors!  It was a great deal!! We opted for pescado/fish tacos, Yucatán pork/carnitas, crispy chicken, and braised chicken.  Our platter came with Mexican street corn and a small serving of guac.  We paired the platter with black bean and rice, and complemented the meal with both fried sweet plantains and green, savory plantain chips! We chowed down!  The tacos we amazing, the crunchy jicama on the pork tacos were my jam!  My only suggestion for the tacos would be to use two corn tortillas instead of one to make them easier to handle.  My mouth was in party mode as I tasted the street corn with lime crema, chili salt and sprinkled with my fav herb, cilantro!  The Spanish rice with beans were seasoned just right!  We didn't leave a morsel on the table!  When we got the bill, we were more than pleasantly surprised that all that food fed six for such a reasonable price point! I don't know how this location of Casa Del Barco can be so different than the one I experienced downtown, but it is entirely different. The chips were actually chips and not flat tostadas. The chips had a yummy spice to them. The food was all around better. The service was excellent. We were seated and served with a smile I a timely manner - (not like downtown which you have to wait an hour to get a drink and you had to sit at the bar because tables are an hour wait). Our waitress at this location was very attentive and really pleasant. The atmosphere was so inviting and the food was delicious. It definitely felt fancier and the wait staff was so nice. There isn't a need for me to have to go back to that downtown location now. I'd make the drive out when I get the craving! More...

Casa del Barco is sexy!! I went to have a few drinks and explore their happy hour program and was blown away by the atmosphere. They have a upstairs lounge / bar area which is cozy, intimate and exquisite. Honestly the only thing stopping Casa del Barco from being an ultra lounge is a DJ. They have one of the best happy hour programs I've come across in RVA. I'm talking 4 dollar Margaritas, 5 dollar Guac and 3 dollar tacos the list goes on an on but either way you add it up itll equal deliciousness. The jury is still out on the cadence for the happy hour. I went on a Friday from 3-630 and the happy hour menu was in full swing. I love coming to Casa del Barco! I don't frequent here much to eat since they don't have hardly any vegan options, but who can pass up on chips and salsa with a few good drinks. Their bartenders Tyler, Chris, KP, Felicia, and Harry always makes the BEST drinks, and when they're busy their manager Dustin is always there to answer any questions I might have about their menu. (Yes, I asked names for this review.) If you're going here for an authentic Mexican dish...this probably isn't the place for you. They don't have the "white stuff" that people get so mad about but, they are great for southern style Mexican cuisine (for non-vegan customers.) This is a great place for an after work happy hour! The food and drink specials are very affordable! The margaritas are delicious and come in several different flavors! The happy hour nachos are phenomenal and shareable among 1-2 people! I also really enjoy the fish tacos! My family an I came here for my cousins birthday over the summer and they wonderfully accommodated our large group. We ordered two taco platters and it was plenty for our group of 10! More...

This restaurant is very modern. Great decor and presentation. The staff is very accommodating and attentive. From both outside and inside the presentation and build quality of the restaurant is bright vibrant and upscale. If your a photographer you will have your pick at wonderful shots from anywhere in the restaurant. Now the food is also great here. The mango Habanero salsa is amazing, sweet but has the delayed spice that kicks in afterwards. The drinks are good. And the barbacoa tacos are life changing when paired with the corn tortillas. ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ I was lucky enough to score an invite to the soft opening of the newest location at Chesterfield Towne Center last night. Myself and 7 others settled in at a table on the rooftop. It was a perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful sunset and some of the best Mexican food and margaritas RVA has to offer. We had excellent service thanks to Princess and her constant attention to our very thirsty and hungry group. It was very nice to see some of our old management team friends Michael and Miri and was nice to meet our new management team friend Richard! When it started to get a little chilly, Richard was nice enough to bring a couple of blankets to the table to help warm us up. Chesterfield County warmly welcomes Casa Del Barco to our neighborhood. I've visited Casa Del Barco a few times for happy hour and have always had a great experience. The staff are all very warm and welcoming. I really enjoy the atmosphere - especially the rooftop bar area! There is a decent selection of happy hour specials available and the sizes are generous. My friend and I usually split the $4 quesadilla and the $5 guac. Top that off with a few $5 margaritas and watching the sunset on the rooftop terrace and you have a recipe for an excellent, and reasonably priced, happy hour! Stopped by for a lunch with my mom on a Friday. It wasn't too busy, and we were seated at the side booths. I instantly sunk into my seat - the table was too high and the booth was too low. I am 5'7", so I never have problems like that at any other places. For drinks, I got a blood orange frozen margarita (large is $11.50 is the size of a pint glass) and my mom got their El Barco margarita on the rocks. They were good. For the entrees I ordered $18 chicken enchiladas - comes with 2 enchiladas and a side of rice with black beans. The enchiladas were tasty, but rice and beans lacked flavor. My mom ordered 2 tacos ($11 lunch portion) with a side salad. I believe she got "pescado" and "dynamite shrimp". She said that the tacos were good, but the side salad looked like it was from a school cafeteria. Their sauces/salsas are very good, especially the habanero one. The server (Dont remember the name, but he was had red hair in a bun) was very attentive and answered all of our questions. The total came out to $57, which is reasonable for 2 thinks and entrees. Came here to escape all the hectic Saturday shopping that we got caught up in. It's a HUUUGEE restaurant with two floors and two outdoor seating arrangements. One on the lower floor and a second on the top floor. If I was a regular in the area I would commandeer the outside seating on the second floor. There's tons of foliage that blocks the harsh sun so you're cool and the couch-esque seating is so comfortable to chat on and relax while enjoying a meal. We ordered the nachos to share and some lunch tacos.Overall the restaurant is very pricey especially for the quantity. Lunch tacos are two 4ish inch tortilla tacos with a side and after tip you're looking at around 15-16 bucks which is significant. The nachos that we had were very good even though we took out the chorizo. There are limited vegetarian options. Staff is friendly and pretty quick to serve food! More...

Casa Del Barco is by far the best restaurant in Short Pump. They have the nicest bar lounge upstairs with friendly and energetic bartenders. If you're looking for refreshing margarita, CDB has the best in Richmond. And the food?!! SO good!! Had a great lunch there yesterday. I decided to try the empanadas with a side of fried plantain's. I was not disappointed. I was a perfect size for lunch and it kept me full throughout the afternoon. For lunch you can get to empanadas and they come in three different flavors so I chose chicken and pork.My friend is vegetarian and he was able to get the Carnitas quesadilla without any meat because it had an amazing selection of vegetables and mushrooms.
