Went here for date night a couple of weeks ago. Overall it was good. Not the greatest place and not bad. The wine selection was definitely alittle bit disappointing since the location is in wine country. The truffle fries were very salty. We didn't say anything due the fact we kind just wanted to leave. Ordered the short ribs, calamari, burrata, Pineapple Express cocktail, and a citrus pork chop. The Calamari tasted like they threw mai poy sauce all over it, the burrata was good definitely a little salty. The pork chop very tender, best dish of all. The short rib was meh. It was one of those take a few bites and that was it. I took it home and tossed it with some penne pasta and cream, and it tasted a lot better. The service was fine, took a little while for the waiter to come around and check on us. I'm guessing the owner had a few friends come by and they got seated at the table behind us, very loud crowd. That ruined the mood, since it was hard for us to talk and hear each other. The serve did mention a ribeye steak for $145. I saw them bring out a few to the table around us, and it definitely did not look like $145 worth of steak. With that pricing you're reaching closer to Alexander's pricing and it wouldn't even compare. More...

It was a wonderful first time experience. My husband and I came with our 2 friends to Napa and we picked this spot for dinner. My husband made reservation for 6:30pm. We got to the place and didn't have to wait too long before we were seated. Let's go into my review.Parking and visibility: 5/5. We parked inside the parking structure right across from the restaurant. It was free so it's cool. We walked down and crossed the street to the restaurant. Customer service: 5/5. we even met the owner. Ali was so nice and welcoming. He came out to greet all of his customers which was nice to see. Food and drinks: 5/5. we ordered cucumber martini and pineapple rum (it was strong. I didn't like it). We also got lobster risotto and black ink pasta. The lobster risotto was super heavy but my husband loved it. I was surprised how big the meal was. My plate was the black ink pasta. I ate the whole thing. We had a reservation, and we had to wait another 20 mins to get seated. They were kind enough to give us a complimentary drink as we waited for our table. We had already decided what we were getting from the apps, and almost dinner. After being sat, we ordered the calamari, and once I checked in, we were awarded a free appetizer of the chefs choice, not pictured. It was tasty and cheesy! Super good. The calamari was very good! I would order it again. We randomly saw people with a platter that had ribs on it and asked what it was on the menu, it ended up being the chefs choice. So we ended up ordering it. Cute cosy restaurant. Felt very Italian for an American food place. Service was great but I'm here to review the food 1) skip the corn soup. Unless you enjoy cold soup. To be fair I believe it was on the description, I was just too focused on the word soup so I was looking forward to something comforting and warm after a long day. Flavors were there but the texture and cold temperature could not go down my stomach. 2) get the chefs choice steak platter. Huge portion. What a tasty dining experience in downtown Napa! Â We normally go to R&D in Yountville but wanted to try something new a bit closer to home and it did not disappoint! Â We had 6pm reservations and the dining area to ourselves for a bit but after an hour it was nearly filled, an ode to the high Yelp rating. Â Our server was very attentive and had helpful recommendations for us. Yelp check in tip - you get a free appetizer of butternut squash arancini, which were delicious crispy rice balls atop pesto. Â You don't want to miss this!For our mains, we got the burrata heirloom tomato salad, lobster risotto, seafood pasta, the ribeye special and quelled our sweet tooth with the house made Twix bar, salted caramel gelato and a scoop of vanilla bean gelato. Everything was very fresh, flavorful and tasty! Â We loved all of the dishes we got and highly recommend each of them. Came here before a concert last week because it was close to the Uptown Theater. The ambience was lovely, very quaint and cozy restaurant. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the atmosphere. I ordered the halibut special, and it was very disappointing. The halibut was dry and it was served with beets and frisée salad heaped on top that did not add anything to the dish. There was no sauce or carb served with it, so I had to ask for tartar sauce to at least finish the dish. Not good. The service was sketchy, we asked for bread which was not delivered then had to ask again. Another server seem very inexperienced. Absolutely a lovely experience in Napa. The service was top notch, the food was incredible and on the scale of some of the Michelin rated restaurants. We found an amazing Pinot Noir to go with dinner and ended up finding room for dessert.Highly recommended are the short rib dish, the Kurabota (sp) Pork Chop, and the Halibut.Overall, this place is just a full blown delight from the seating to the time you leave. I was disappointed dining there this past week after reading all the positive reviews. It was my sister's bday so we decided last minute to go on an overnight to Napa. I reserved  this restaurant a day prior.  Two people in our party ordered a Coke. The server brought out the can already opened. They tasted it and it seemed watered down & with no fizz to it. I tried it too just to make sure their taste buds were not off & it definitely was not the usual Coke or even the one with pure cane sugar from other countries.  I made a decent comment to the server regarding the Coke, but he blatantly ignored me & brushed it off. It gave me impression they might do something to their cokes by not acknowledging my comment. I realize it was later in the evening but service was not great there as if it were a chore to serve us. They were out of diver scallops which was one of the reason I wanted to try the place. The rack of lamb (3-4 very tiny pieces) was ok,  that we had to make our own at home the next evening to satisfy our craving. The food was ok, but nothing really stood out. The chicken dish was good and I appreciated the Brussels sprouts on the pork chop dish. The squid pasta had bay scallops & good shrimp size. The calamari appetizer has more onions fillers than anything that it was hard for me to know if I was going to bite into a calamari or onion (I don't like onions much). The pork belly appetizer was ok but there was limited flavor even though it was soft. Spending over $200 for a mediocre meal, we were disappointed & wished we had just waited the next day for our Bouchon reservations. I don't think I would return to this place. I'll Be straight and quick with this review. Â Came in and got seated within 5-10mins with reservations. Â Service was good but what subtracts the stars in this review was the food. I really did like this restaurant, but my rating is lower because of 2 issues, which I'll state a little later. First off, this place is lovely and has a nice ambiance. The waitress that helped us was nice and attentive. The food overall tasted very good. The only issue with the food was that after dinner I was very ill. I believe it was the "fresh cheese" that was on the charcuterie board. It was a liquidy cheese and had a very strange flavor, but not exactly pleasant. I know I have a somewhat sensitive stomach though, so perhaps I couldn't handle it. My boyfriend had some and didn't get the same reaction, but felt minor discomfort.The other issue was that we were near the window and it kept blowing our paper tablecloth up and kept pushing on the blinds and knocking the decorations from the windowseal to the ground (very loud crashing sounds). The waitress noticed once but not the other times and wasn't around to stop it. Another group of people at a different table encouraged us to find the twist lever ourselves to close the window at our table and they also did so at theirs. This fixed the issue but it made quite a disturbance. You think if it happened once already that the waitress would have closed the window so it wouldn't happen again and not just pick up the decorations. Absolutely disappointed. I can deal with poor service (which was very poor) but but bad food not so much. The Saffron Lobster Risotto was more soup then Risotto and also under cooked. The short rib was dry and the chicken looked like it was run over by a truck (also was supposed to come with roasted carrots and they gave me fries). I am visiting from Seattle and the people here make me want to relocate to Napa. I visited other restaurants in Napa but they did not compare to carpe diem. Carpe Diem is a fun place for dropping in. Â Many available wines are stationed in a tempting way at the entrance, we selected an interesting sounding one. Â The wild mushroom flatbread was so good, I tried copying it at home that weekend, but they did a much better job on it. Â The ostrich burger was tasty, but a bit tough. Â The lobster risotto had hardly any lobster in it. Â For the price, we thought we would be getting a steamed half lobster. Â But alas, the risoto was mostly rice. Â The waiter was excellent. I went to napa for some business meetings and after our meetings were finished. I was looking to grab some drinks and when I was passing this place Carpe Diem one gentleman said hi to me. he was so friendly. We ended the talk and his positivity stood out to me for the most part and the service was tip-top. The owners name is Ali Yildirim didn't forget it! I ordered red wine and some appetizers and they were perfectly cooked. I enjoyed this place vet much and I would highly recommend it to friends. Took my daughter there for her Bday and wow what an awesome experience from service to some of the best culinary food ever. I had Squid Ink Fettuccine with lobster claw meat, shrimp, baby scallops, clams and more. My daughter had Lamb prepared to perfection. We started out with Sweet Chili Calamari and again it was sooooo good. We then finished with dessert Housemade Twix bar and Bread Pudding. If I could give 10 stars I would. PERFECTION!!! We sat down and not one staff member came by for over 10 minutes. Â Not for water, drink orders, anything. Â The people next to us got their food hastily dropped off and it was by the hostess, so maybe we came at a terribly understaffed night. "Seize the Day" and visit Napa!! And so we did just that and found ourselves at Carpe Diem just a block away from the Napa River. Excellent service, exquisite food, and refreshing cocktails & wine.The Diver Scallops were melt in your mouth delicious! A wonderful starter along with the Butternut Squash Arancini and Carpe Salad, paired with a Pinot Grigio. Already looking forward to our entrees!Entrees: I opted for the Saffron Lobster Risotto, while the gentelmen at the table ordered the Heritage Berkshire Porkchop and Squid Ink Black Fettucini. It was my first time trying this place and although they seemed short staffed for the holiday, service was still great. The food was just OK. We enjoyed the calamari and caesar salad. We also ordered the pork chop, a few burgers, mac and cheese, truffle fries, and the lemon cake for dessert. The pork chop wasn't flavorful and the meat was tough. Cole's Chop House is better if you're looking for a good pork chop. Nobody finished their burgers - they weren't satisfying. The mac and cheese lacked flavor and we (a party of 5) didn't finish that either. The lemon cake was served to us still frozen and we couldn't cut it with a spoon. When comparing the food to the prices, it was a poor experience and I wouldn't recommend this place. Afterwards, we ended up going to the Waterfront Seafood Grill and ordered 4 fantastic desserts. INCREDIBLE! Â The service, the food, the environment, the understanding of food allergies and preferences, the creativity and flexibility. Â I could go on and on. Â Casey was an amazing server - she understood veganism and vegetarianism and created her own dish just for me! Â That in itself is exceptional, BUT the food was so delicious that I left there full and satisfied (this is hard to do when you are vegan and gluten-free). Â Aside from my delicious salad, I received ratatouille, green beans with shallots and lemon, small potatoes with olive oil and lemon, and brussels sprouts. Normally when I special order, I get strange looks and confusion from the wait staff, but here I was met with understanding and creativity. Â It was incredible and so appreciated! To top it all off, the food was incredibly delicious. Â My husband and I cook at home several times a day and don't often find a restaurant that competes with us, but Carpe Diem beat us! Well, hello Napa gem!!! We are local Happy Hour fanatics and Carpe Diem has an A-list assortment for this late afternoon occasion. The Cheese and Charcuterie plate on HH is it's own HH lottery . One of the most beautiful boards I've had, at what is an incredible price. But wait, there is more! Their dinner entrees are incredible (halibut special pictured here). Downtown Napa is lucky to have this gem of a restaurant. I generally go here for dinner or late night after work which is always fantastic. They did recently bring back happy hour which is one of the best I've seen in Napa. Regardless they are so welcoming on all levels. From when you walk in the door, to the bar, to being at your table, or a private event. It's always comfortable here and the food is fantastic. UPDATE: So our experience here was miles better than our previous one. We were seated right away and the service was excellent. Between the manager, server, busboy and chef we felt like we never cast aside or forgotten.And the food, oh boy, was it impressive. We tried the scallops and arancini as appetizers and both were gone in a few minutes. I had the lobster risotto, my wife had the short rib and my daughter got the steak. All of it was incredible - perfectly cooked and with loads of flavor.We finally finished with some dessert (the flour less chocolate cake was amazing!) for a wonderful meal. If you know my ratings, you know I never give 5 star but this place deserves it!!! We ordered the Ostrich Burger, Lamb (truffle fries) and a nice half bottle of sauv blanc. Â Then we got the most delicious cocktail-I think it's called Napa Night. Â To finish it off we got the Homemade Twix. Â The ostrich burger comes with truffle fries that I just want to dream about. Â I am not a lamb fan but that lamb was cooked perfectly and the polenta was just wonderful. Â So creamy and decadent! Â The ostrich burger came with poached egg, dried cherries (I think) and well was an explosion of flavor. Â Service -we didn't have reservations and they told us they were booked but we could sit at a high top at the bar. Â The service was amazing and the bartender was our waiter and he was just amazing. Ugh so wanted to love or even like this restaurant but I didn't. Â We went on a crazy day, Mother's Day. Â Super busy and under staffed. Â They were seating folks in the over flow room and one server for all the tables. Â Food came out random and sporadically. Â We place our order before two other tables and they got their food before us. Â We had a kid with us and had ordered Mac n cheese for him that came after our entrees and mind you we wanted 50 plus minutes for our food. Â We also ordered the brussel sprouts we never got. Â The flatbread was very good but such bad service doesn't warrant us ever returning. Â If they were so understaffed they should have never opened the overflow room. I recently booked a large party here of about 40 people for my wedding rehearsal dinner. Gabriel, the manager, was very helpful with my reservation. We were able to book the whole patio for us, and it was awesome! When I first arrived, my waiter Geoffrey, eagerly greeted me and showed me all of the different kinds of wine I could choose for my party. He was extremely helpful and suggested some great wines/bubbles that perfectly paired with our food menu. Now let me tell you about the food. Unfortunately for me, I have a lot of food allergies. The waiters were able to find me a dish I could eat, the pasta primavera, and it was super delicious! All of my guests were extremely satisfied with all of their food too! We enjoyed the food here. The service was personable and the ambiance was nice. Â They were super busy and service was a little spotty, but our server did his best to serve us well. What we ordered:Shortribs - Tender, flavorful, and the zero complaints. It was meaty and tasty.Mahi Mahi - It was slightly overcooked, but it had lots of flavor.Squid Ink Pasta - The pasta was made in house and cooked slightly under al dente which I liked even more. The sauce was very balanced. It wasn't runny or watery and it was full of flavor.We ordered two cocktails and they were off the mark. This was a horrifically bad experience. Had a reservation at 7. Got there at 650. Didn't get seated until about 725. My daughter ordered a Shirley temple and it took 30 minutes to get it. Ordered the moment we sat down yet by 830 there was still no food. Ultimately left because we didn't want to still be eating at 930 on a Sunday night. Do not book large party here unless you have no other option. Came here as our last dinner for my sisters bachelorette and it simply disappointed. Gabriel was extremely nice and was very sweet, however, the service just lacked for the price we had to pay. My reservation was at 7:45pm, I called around 3pm that day asking if we can come earlier, and they said to come around 7pm, get a drink at the bar and they'd be able seat us earlier. We got sat at 7:50. I told them we had to leave by 9pm. Our bus was scheduled to pick us up then. They said that's fine we can make it work. We didn't get our first course until 8:30. For a large party, you select your menu. When we sat down, the entire menu was different. Completely different appetizers and only one of the 3 second course options and dessert wasn't even there. Dessert was chef's selection...The first course was a caesar salad (forgot the croutons) and beet salad. Oh, also we asked for bread and they said they ran out. And then when we were visibly upset by it, they brought it out. It was clear that we would not be out by 9 so we suggested that they box up all of our entrees and dessert. They said no, we want to serve your entrees. We said ok, entrees came out at 8:50, a fish was raw and that was the final straw. We left with a $1400 bill. Unfortunately i was so drunk when we got to dinner I couldn't properly enjoy my food but hey that's Napa for you lol i was really looking forward to the ostrich burger and it had a perfectly poached egg on it. 2 bites in and i felt nauseated. Not because of the food but just too much wine earlier lol it was delicious though. We had a mushroom flatbread and truffle fries that i vaguely remember being good. I stopped by here on a roadtrip through Napa, and was happy to be able to get a table when walking in! The staff was very friendly and accommodating for our party of 5, and the restaurant itself is gorgeous. Upon being seated, we had a chance to hear the daily specials and soon after had our orders taken. We got the calamari for an appetizer, and it was really good! It also had other bits inside like green beans, onions and other veggies. For my main course I couldn't decide between the short rib or the ostrich burger, but ultimately went with the short rib because of the waitress recommendation. It was super tender and came with some broccoli and mashed potato, but honestly the portion was pretty small for the price and wasn't anything too spectacular. However, I was able to try some of my friend's ostrich burger which was so surprisingly good! It tasted like w combination of chicken and beef, and the burger itself was cooked well and came together perfectly. I'd never had ostrich before, so was really excited to try something new. The fries on the side were also delicious -- super thick and really crispy. If you're in Napa I'd definitely recommend trying this spot out for some great food and service! More...

Absolutely loved this place! The staff was friendly and on top of things. They helped us surprise 2 birthdays on our table! There were 6 of us and everyone loved their food!
