We were ready to divorce and only showed up to therapy to figure out how to tell the kids and coparent. Carmen told us that we had the choice to start a new marriage together or with someone new. Then she helped us learn to talk again. Divorce is not a choice for us today thanks to her. I couldn't tell you what she did except that everything changed. Thank you Carmen, More...

My son attended UC Davis and Dr. Isais helped him with his anxiety issues and test phobias. He graduated with honors, but more importantly, has learned to control his anxiety.

Carmen was a Godsend. She cured my panic attacks and helped me get my anxiety under control.

When we came to Carmen I felt our marriage was over. A year later we both joke about our "second marriage" because that is what it feels like, but with each other.
It feels like a new marriage with and even better guy than I married the first time around.
I don't know how Carmen did it, but she helped us open up, really talk for the first time in years, and actually like and love each again.
Thank you so much Carmen!

What do you love most about your job?
The work I do in the field of psychotherapy and coaching is the most rewarding endeavor I have found to date. My integral approach emphasizes building positive connections, living up to one’s full potential, taking responsibility, coping with life’s stressors, exploring personal/family relationships, and overcoming anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
I love being part of clients learning to problem solve, to experience their feelings, to listen to their bodies, and to trust themselves.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I arrived to Marriage and Family private practice through my own experience of first working with individuals, one-on-one, in the world of business development, personal growth and coaching. My philosophy is simple. I approach work with dedication, integrity and a sense of humor. The latter comes in handy. I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled and lived abroad and have learned that regardless the land or language, people are waiting to tell their story, be heard and accepted.
Why should our clients choose you?
My clients change. This is something I say often, because it’s true.
Working with me is easy and flexible. I offer one-on-one coaching & psychotherapy services, in person (at my Davis office) and by phone or online via a secure HIPAA compliant video service.
Every client is unique and so the work I create for you reflects this. If I sense up-front that someone isn’t right for my approach, I’d rather not take their time or money — and be happy to guide them to the right resource. Our work together includes:
* Free Inicial, 15-20 minute Phone Consult.
* Assessment, a Clear Plan, and First Steps.
* Reality Based Solutions & Goal Oriented Approach.
* Processing of Resistances and Obstacles.
* Accountability with Compassion.
* Individualized Homework & Ongoing Support.
Approach: All work is done with a tailored, one-on-one approach working with me directly. There are no use of scripts, canned protocols, or recycling of other people’s work. In addition to weekly goal-oriented solutions, working with me often involves process goals or tasks done outside of the office. Yes, I give”homework”.
Individual Psychotherapy
I have been helping people create meaning & connection in their lives since 2009 when I began my full-time coaching practice. Healing & overcoming challenges from my own early childhood were instrumental in leading me into the field of coaching & counseling. After spending a nearly a decade living abroad, I found home in California and earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I draw on science-backed tools such as Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment Theory, Rational Emotive and Mindfulness-based interventions. My integral approach emphasizes building positive connections, living up to one’s full potential, taking responsibility, coping with life’s stressors, exploring personal/family relationships, and overcoming anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Clients learn to problem solve, to experience their feelings, to listen to their bodies, and to trust themselves.
Couples Counseling
Couples counseling can be some of the most difficult work one might ever do. This being said it is also by far the most rewarding.
Two people being raised with separate backgrounds, experiences, expectations, fears, desires and capacities, will surely present as challenges in any relationship. While many couples do seem to move through the different hills and valleys of a long-term marriage, many others either lack models in their own life or simply do not recognize these obstacles as normal developmental phases in the course of a long-term relationship. What couples typically call in for counseling for is to get “communication skills quote, “tools”, “anger management”.
While obtaining these skill sets certainly will do no harm they typically do not get deep enough to the core of the issues to create resolve and healing in a relationship. While a therapist can do very good work with an individual even the same therapist can have difficulty with the complexity in the nature of the relationship of a couple. For over 100 years therapists have been guessing and then obtaining training in different milieus to attempt to corner “what works” for couples.
