We were visiting the area on a road trip and were a little overwhelmed with all of the restaurant choices, particularly BBQ restaurants. After debating forever we finally just said "let's just try this Burnt End BBQ place". It turned out to be an great decision! We ordered the Royal Platter and one of the bowls because we were starving and wanted to try some of everything. It was a complete BBQ feast with all the trimmings. Some of the highlights were the burnt ends (of course), pulled pork, and the hickory pit beans. The cheesy grits were also very good. Nothing was bad. Lots of good smoke flavor all around. It was all so tasty that it was hard to stop eating even after getting full. There is also a small but decent beer selection. I had a local porter that I would definitely get again. They also have an array of bbq sauces. I recommend trying a small amount of all of them like we did to find out which one(s) you like the best.Service was good and friendly. A little dirty in the dining area but nothing really to complain about. It will be very difficult to try a different BBQ restaurant when we return to the area knowing how good the food is at Burnt End BBQ! More...

This was my first time trying Burnt End BBQ and my husbands second. He tried one of their burgers last week and tonight we decided to get supper here. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken wings with Ranch and the half slab of St. Louis Ribs. My husband ordered the Mac Bowl. Let's just say those ribs and wings were gone in one sitting lol I would definitely order the wings again. The ribs were a little too smokey for me. Hubby loved his Mac and cheese bowl as well. We live right down the street and will be ordering again. More...

I heard positive things about this place and I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the platter of Burnt Ends, Mac N Cheese, Baked Potato salad, and cornbread. My favorite part of the meal was the Baked Potatoes Salad!! If I could, I would order a tub filled of that baked potato salad. The flavors blended just perfectly, and the consistency was extremely smooth. My least favorite part of the meal was the cornbread. The cornbread was extremely dry and had no flavor to it. The burnt end was just okay, but I would probably opt for a different choice the next time I visit. More...

This place is really really good! We went here on a whim when Joe's was closed on a Sunday. I made my own bowl of pork and burnt ends, mac and tomatoes and cucumber salad (put those on the side). The pork is amazing and moist! The burnt ends melt in your mouth and are perfectly balanced. The buffalo wings are smoked and a great slow even burn without being too vinegary. They have a large selection of different types of bbq sauce, most are towards the sweeter side of the spectrum. The spicy ones are delicious and worth a taste! The mac is pretty good, but is missing a little extra, like melted cheese on top or crumbs or extra cheese for texture. Everything else was definitely up to par! And the prices are very affordable to other places in Kansas! More...

I'll say, this surprised me. Burnt End is serious business. They seem like a bunch of "temp workers lookin' to make a dime," all that cheap design and marketing, but you'd be wrong like me - granted, if they're on their game that day. That pulled pork is subtly sweet, smooth and porky with great woody flavor and bite. Their burnt ends are spectacular, with a smoky, sturdy bark - and light fat. The turkey is smoky, sweet and of the drier variety - absolutely great. The ham has a chew, lightly salted, with a hint of pork flavor - tasty. Both the brisket and sausage are smoky to perfection, with the brisket on the drier and more gentle side of flavor, while that superbly textured and flavorful sausage is definitely homemade - almost like a smoked summer sausage. And the barbecue beans stand out, with a sweet, strong barbecued onion flavor.I looked over this place a lot. It's in the middle of a deadzone of golf club stores and poor caucasian-mexican food. But they're bonafide. I'd tell any visitors of my city, go to burnt ends, try anything, you'll probably love it. These guys got a bit of space between them and the likes of slaps kc, joes, or jacks stack, but not much. Definitely worth a stop! More...

Awesome experience. Brought an out of guest who was visiting KC for the first time. He loved trying burnt ends. We shared some of our brisket with him too and made sure he got to try the beans and hot baked potato salad. Every bite was outstanding. The two meet two sides platter is big enough for the "manly" appetite my husband has, and I always have enough to share (or bring home a little!)The line moves quickly. The food arrives piping hot within just a few minutes. I like the self serve sauce area (so many choices!! I personally love thick and bold). Plenty of seating. What's not to love More...

I am a huge fan of barbecue having been born and raised in Kansas City. Everybody does everything a little bit different but specific places definitely have their skill set. By the name I figured my best bet would be to get their burnt ends. I got a pound of burnt ends and multiple sides because I have never been here before and I wanted to have a good idea of what was good. Everything was delicious with the exception of the beans that were SO thick with sauce the beans weren't even a part of that party, I'd pass on them next time. That whole thing was a little strange. But other than that the burnt ends were super tender, Texas toast was delicious, corn, spicy slaw, and Mac and cheese. What a wonderful meal. More...

Burnt End BBQ isn't at the top of the list when people discuss KC BBQ, but it's good stuff and should be in the conversation anytime lunch options are reviewed in Overland Park.  Burnt End BBQ is located in a strip center at the busy intersection of Metcalf and 119th - it's a minor magic trick to find your way in and out from the main road, but once you're there, plenty of parking is always available.  Orders are placed fast-food style by walking up to the register, but the food is delivered to your table by a server.  Soft drink and bbq sauce options are self-service at a station in the dining room near where you pay for your food.  The restaurant has the look of something that could be franchised at some point in the future. One thing I'm a little confused about is the fact that they charge more for iced tea than soft drinks.  If I remember correctly, the price was about 40 cents more for tea.  I've never seen this before.  This could be because they offer some flavored teas, but I'm pretty sure they make a very sweet profit on the unflavored and unsweet tea I always order.Let's begin the food discussion by starting with their namesake Burnt Ends - they aren't the best in town, but they are still quite good.  The squares of meat are cut a tiny bit smaller than many local restaurants, but the beef is always moist and flavorful.  And, I've never seen them run out of burnt ends, or only offer them on certain days of the week like some other restaurants. In 2018 they placed bottles of a few of their "regular" bbq sauces on each dining room table.  If you wanted their unique/special flavors of bbq sauce, you needed to fill a small plastic cup from a pump dispenser next to the soft drink fountain.  They no longer keep any bottles of sauce on the tables, so now all flavors of sauce must be self-dispensed before you sit down. With one exception, all the meats are good - ribs (why St. Louis style, this is KC!), ham, turkey, sausage (cut in coins), pulled pork - but not the best in the area.  The exception is their chicken wings.  I enjoy their moist smoky wings very much, and my wife is crazy about them.  She also appreciates the seasonal veggies side option, something that isn't offered at a many KC BBQ joints.I have one favorite side item, and another side item I'm very disappointed in.  My disappointing item is the fries.  I have this complaint about a number of restaurants, and it's something I think is important in an establishment like Burnt End BBQ.  How much money did the owners invest in the property, and the kitchen equipment, and the dining room furniture, and the registers, etc., etc? - Only to pull a bag of frozen French fries from the walk-in and toss them in the fryer!  It absolutely astounds me that so many restaurants care so much for their meats and a few other signature items but they completely ignore the incredible appeal of fresh cut fries that are essential for a great BBQ meal.  I could open a bag of Ore-Idas at home if I want, I don't need to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a restaurant to do it, and I don't need to go to Burnt End BBQ to get them either.  I absolutely fail to understand why they, or any other non-fast-food restaurant serves them.  On the bright side, I love their white cheddar grits.  I'm not a particularly huge grits fan, but these are always moist and tasty and they really compliment the meat very well.As you can see, I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with Burnt End BBQ.  It's good stuff, an excellent lunch option, at least a 3.5 which I'll score as a 4, but it has the potential to be much better if they wanted to be. I have been looking forward to trying this one out for a few months, after a waiter at Yaya's told me about it. This is a sister restaurant to Yaya's, so the likelihood of it being great was high. The food was fantastic. Lots of options, including all of the typical offerings of a barbecue restaurant in Kansas City. Really quality meat, attested to by my picky wife. No fat in her pork sandwich. The burnt ends had to be good and they were. I ordered them in a bowl with corn bread, baked beans, etc. For those who don't mind mixed food, this is the way to roll. Although it came with sauce, there are seven+ sauces available to you and the spicy barbecue and honey barbecue were my favorites. The hottest one was a mustard-base, which isn't my kind of thing ... but it was impressively hot.The environment is more fast casual, so the quality of food outpaces the restaurant. Some of the other reviews mention an average or slow service group. We saw some of that as well. But, the food was what we were talking about afterward. It was great. More...

Surprisingly good and very inexpensive. The place is small and you order at a counter, fast and convenient. They offer several options, choices, and substitutions and the friendly staff will guide you. We ordered a platter with 2x burnt ends, side of beans, side of fries, and 2 buns. We had plenty of food for 2 people to share. The burnt ends were delicious and cooked to perfection, they offer 5 different types of bbq sauce ranging from honey to fire. The food is delivered to your table and the food runners are friendly and do a good job at making sure the tables remain clean. They also offer alcohol along with fountain drinks. Patio option is available and currently open. Not a place I would normally visit as it is out of my way but it's good food... if I find myself near, I would not mind stopping by again. More...

My wife and I ate there Saturday afternoon. The food was very well done. Both of us were impressed with the overall flavor and quality of meat provided. Both of our meals were enough without the sauces. As for the sauces, of the three we tried, they were very sweet, a little smoke and the jalapeño one did have a sneaky heat finish. The sweet corn was more garlicky and I would prefer but it was very good. The baked beans or well done with a little meat and a lot of smoke. More...

It's barbecue snob time!I'm 100% sure this would be 5 stars in any other Region but this is the Capital of Barbecue / BBQ. We went at lunch before noon and it was served smooth and quickly. We have a problem with writing down a tip right after you pay? It's common knowledge to tip. But what are we tipping on? That you took my order and told me to pay at the end of the line. Well the help did bring out our food in a timely fashion but after that no contact until we were finished with lunch. So basically they bring food and take your tray. It is like a cafeteria style service so if this helps.I did like the 1/2 chicken it was Hot and that's how you like to eat chicken. It had taste but not overbearing and the chicken peeled off the bone. The pit beans were pretty good and some shaved meat to make it extra chuncky. The cheese corn had no flavor and was bland it looked like it was going to be special but fell flat. The flame sauce was so sweet and then the HOT extra credit for this. All the other sauce's were average to just sauce. We will go back and try other food. My party loved the burnt ends and I trust writing this down. More...
