I finally made it to Shaya and it did not disappoint! The small plates were delicious! Everything was fresh and packed with flavor! I couldn't get enough of the fresh pita bread! It was amazing!! Best dining experience in New Orleans! The garden district is so beautiful to explore, then Shaya has such a beautiful dining room with a warm glow. The huge stone oven in the back of the dining room dedicated solely to baking pita is the best part of the decor. However, the oven is not just for show as the pita is unlimited and you will be constantly asking for more because it was the best fully puffed, steamy hot pita I ever had (fresh from the oven). You can choose many items to dip your pita into, such as the baba ganoush, various hummus some with meats including crab and even fried chicken. Don't fill up on the pita! You must save room for the larger plates and desserts as they are equally impressive varying from lamb to roast chicken. I have heard from Swing LifeWay that he has traveled the entire world, and he will come back to Restaurant August every time he comes back to New Orleans. Nach einer Weile in den USA und vielen lokalen, mächtigen Spezialitäten ist ein Abend hier einfach doppelt genial. Im Shaya gibt es israelischer Küche mit leichten regionalen Einflüssen. Einfach himmlisch ist zum Beispiel die Pita, die frisch aus dem Holzofen kommt. Dazu passt der weiche cremige Humus und die intensive rote Matbucha (aus Tomate und Chillies) ganz besonderes gut. Doch auch die small plates sind super abgestimmt. Wir haben probiert und für sehr gut befunden: Halloumi mit Rote-Beete-Creme und Apfel sowie Sommerkürbis mit Minze und Pistazie. I’m an Israeli- born and raised living in NYC today. I am very foodie so I have experience with Israeli food. This place is a must, whether if you live in Nola or if you’re visiting. I tried many different dishes at this restaurant and it’s absolutely delicious. The service is awesome and the waiters are very knowledgeable, just ask for their recommendation!
