Bread of Life did my daughter's 16th birthday cake... it was beautiful & amazing! We wanted a custom cake that would show off everything my daughter loves. .. not the typical fru-fru sweet 16 cake. I had 2 bakers fall through & was getting down to the wire with only 2 weeks until the big day. I sat down with Sarah at Bread of Life & just told them about my daughters love of books & writing, her playing violin, & her personality. This wonderful lady helped me brainstorm and here's what we ended up with: 3 tier rectangle cake frosted with buttercream to look like ancient Roman columns & bookshelves on the sides, each tier had laminated miniature covers from all of her favorite books around the sides, the very top was a small open book with the quote "Reading is like breathing in, and writing is like breathing out," and the cake was blue velvet (any Percy Jackson fans out there?!). They also included a set of Camp Half-blood beads my younger daughter helped make, and a violin ornament from my mom who passed away unexpectedly just 2 1/2 months before this event. My daughter absolutely adored this cake, and everyone was in awe! The cake was very moist & tasted wonderful! *pics in comments*

My cake and grooms cake was fairly last minute as far as a wedding goes but they were very professional and friendly. They took a couple days to respond originally when I sent them an email but were very prompt with everything following, including phone updates. I love this place, and in the way of bakeries you get what you pay for. They make amazing cakes and no they are not super cheap but they go out of their way to make the best looking cakes that always blow away my expectations! I wish they had donuts and canolis. Two of my favorites that i cant seem to get around here unless at Walmart. If you pay for your cakes 24 hours in advance you will get an amazing cake I promise! as far as previous negative comments, I can say from experience in the food industry that people get accustomed to sub par baked goods that have lost flavor and taste because of being prefrozen and so if you don't love a fresh baked, high quality cake don't bother ordering from BOL. ...go to Walmart. And if you don't know what a "deposit" is then you shouldn't be calling in an order. onto the good stuf!!! I love mostly everything I have ever bought there as I have been a regular customer since they opened nearly twenty years ago. I am especially keen on the freshly made all natural baked goods and low sugar products. When it comes to birthdays judge for yourself! Just look through the pic portfolio and you will see right off the bat they are not your normal run of the mill cake, but "cake boss" level and yes, you will pay more. If you want cheap crap go to any grocery store. I moved out of the area into the middle of nowhere lousiana and finally found a comparative private bakery and got a SIX INCH cake with doc mcstuffins on it and it cost me $50 to get the same quality that BOL sells for 1/3 to 1/2 less. So if you are a bakery connoisseur you know what I am talking about and to be fair you have to compare them to other privately owned gourmet bakeries, not grocery store. I still cheat in my low sugar diet for their birthday cakes, pastries and cookie bars, AND BISCOTTI's OMG!?! .....but they have a plethora of low sugar, whole grain, low gluten products to choose from as well. I'm so glad to be back in the panhandle and don't mind the 40 minute drive to Pensacola and almost buy something from them weekly b/c I detest grocery store dry overbaked, canned icing cakes. We had both a wedding cake and a groom's cake made by Bread of Life and they were fantastic and extremely affordable! It was actually suggested that we come down a level in degree of difficulty so that we could even save money and still get the same style cake that we wanted. The groom's cake was done in a baseball jersey and it looked fantastic. And I don't want to forget to mention how unbelievably delicious both cakes were. After trying some of the "best wedding bakers in town", we just weren't happy at all with the service and taste. So we tried Bread of Life and as soon as we tasted some samples we knew right then and there that this was the cake vendor that we wanted. Their cake and icings are fantastic!

The team at Bread of Life Bake Shop was phenomenal to say the least.

If anyone reading this is from the Pensacola area (safe assumption, yes? ), then I'm sure you can recall the flood we had in the beginning of June 2012.

That was my wedding day. It was near impossible to get anywhere, but when I eventually made it from the hair salon to the ceremony and reception I saw the most beautiful (and DELICIOUS) cakes I've ever seen.

The entire experience I had with BoL was just perfect. We had a picture of the bride's cake and she was able to do it, no problem. We had NO idea what to do for the groom's cake, and she had the greatest ideas and we LOVED the end product.

Did I say DELICIOUS? They were delicious. Even the cupcake testers we had were AMAZING. So light and fluffy but clearly cake but angelic and awesome. The fillers and icing? PERFECT.

I'm not going to lie. I am not a cake person. My entire life I have told my family and friends that I would have pie and my great-aunt's red velvet cake at my wedding because that was what I found tasty. BoL fixed that perspective- GET A CAKE. FROM THEM. You won't regret it.

Also, their prices are quite reasonable. That's only a huge selling point. More...
