I just recently completed 4 training sessions with Brainy Dog. I was not sure how it was going to work training over the phone but it was even better than I hoped. Sherry is knowledgeable and is amazing on training the trainer (me) at working with my dog at home. It was great to be able to work one on one with my dog at home while Sherry guided us. She gave us fun and effective exercises both during class and to practice between classes. She also explained how some behaviors are interpreted from the dog's point of view. I highly recommend Brainy Dog to anyone who wants to better understand your dog and enhance your relationship with your dog in a positive way. More...

Sherry at Brainy Dog has been amazing. She has helped us so much with our Golden puppy Rex. We started with basic phone training and when resource guarding behaviors started developing she did a house visit which was so helpful and informative for all. We worked extensively together on his resource guarding. Sherry developed a personalized website for him in which we shared with our vet. The vet was amazed by the thoroughness and detail Sherry did. This helped us track his progress with resource guarding. He has improved immensely with no growling or nips when eating. Rex is a loving excited puppy that jumps and puts anything he can get into his mouth. Walks became so difficult because he would constantly jump and nip. I consulted with Sherry and we began extensive in person and phone training about how to respond to his behaviors. I was amazed by the improvement and the tools she gave us in training. His walking is AMAZING now! He just walks calmly wagging his tail. We all are enjoying walks so much now cause we aren’t needing to constantly be in a disciplined stance. Our family and friends have seen a change in his behavior and manner. He just seems more at peace having the tools Sherry taught him and us. He is a puppy that needs structure and training and Sherry has helped us provide that for him. We have more to work on with Rex and are so thankful to have found Sherry to help us. Look how happy he is in these photos from an in person training session! More...

At first, I was a little skeptical of training my puppy over the phone with Sherry… Well… we have completed one package of four sessions and starting our second next week! In the past, I’ve had my dogs do a “board and train” type training. With Sherry’s method, not only do they get to stay at home in a familiar environment, but in every session Sherry teaches ME to be the trainer! Sherry starts with the basics, but also asks about and incorporates any immediate concerns I want addressed. She is very clear with her instructions and ensures you understand before moving on. I am far from a professional dog trainer, but I feel so much more confident that I am gaining the tools to train my puppy successfully, and even reinforce training with my older dog! More...

Training with Sherry is the best part of my day! I love working with my puppy in a way that allows me to constantly be celebrating all of her successes. Through Sherry’s approach to training I see my puppy make enormous progress in each and every session, and though I was originally a little skeptical about doing training over the phone, I have to say it’s been remarkably effective. Her use of positive reinforcement and the way she layers and leverages small successes have helped my puppy pick up on training more quickly than I could have ever imagined. I am so grateful I found Sherry, and I cannot speak more highly of her work. More...

I was out of ideas and very frustrated dealing with my little dogs fear issues, caused mainly from lack of socialization as a Pup. Found Sherry and started doing phone training sessions to try and get a handle on the problem. She really understands Dogs and their thinking process. She came up with exercises and great ideas for the both of us to do inside and outside. Also she explained to me what was going on with the dog and how he see's the world differently than we do. With that knowledge and her expert guidance and down to earth methods I've already seen a difference in him, and am  confident we are going to overcome his fear issues. I look forward to our continuing sessions and can't recommend her highly enough. More...

Phone training is great!!  Sherry's professionalism, compassion for my granddog, firm boundaries, and clear direction to both him and myself made the trainings a delight and successful.  We worked on a couple of things one-on-one pre-Covid, and when I wanted to learn more tricks to engage with him more recently, I tried the phone consultation.  I was hesitant at first, but by golly, it worked well!  It's nice not to have to schlep the dog anywhere, just sit in the family room while she trains us.  Her skill with the dogs and people even work well remotely. Dog Training

My boyfriend and I adopted an 8 year old pup who came from an unfortunate situation. We decided to look into behavioral training to help ease the transition to his new home. After working with Sherry, we noticed dramatic improvements in his overall behavior as he learned to trust us and his surroundings. Sherry was very patient and understanding during our sessions and gave us several exercises to work on. Our dog still has some progress to make but with Sherry’s guidance and expertise, he has broken out of his shell and is an all around happy boy! Thank you Sherry! More...

Sherry is an absolutely amazing dog trainer. We recently adopted a nine-month old puppy from the shelter, and had no idea how to train him. We decided to hire a dog trainer, and Brainy Dog had shining online reviews. Sherry came to our house and went through ingenious training exercises with our dog that worked wonders. By the end of the hour-long training session, our dog was a much better listener, and our family felt more confident about our new addition to the family. More...

I have a seventh month old golden retriever that I brought to Sherry. He had a number of issues, including jumping on counters, pulling on the leash, dog distractions, as well as chewing and gentle biting. Sherry got right to work using a philosophy and method of positive reinforcement. She had practical strategies to get my puppy to do what I wanted him to do. Her can do attitude gave me the confidence and hope that my companion dog could be attentive and well-behaved. At one point I boarded him for seven days. The positive results were immediately obvious! Jackson is well on his way thanks to Sherry's patience, kindness and expertise. More...

We own a three-year-old female English bulldog. She is faithful and friendly with us and with a limited number of friends and family. Since there are others in our lives that create challenges for our dog, we sought help from Brainy Dog to help reduce her aggressive tendencies. We are so pleased with Sherry. She is honest with us about necessary modifications. When Sherry and our dog first met, well, there was not love at first sight, at least from our dog’s perspective. In fact, after the first meeting, we didn’t think Sherry would want to continue with us. Of course, what we saw as an obstacle was more of a motivation for Sherry. She had us come back and in a matter of four or five training sessions, our dog’s behavior upon arriving to work with Sherry changed from defensively cautious, to wildly and uncontrollably enamored, to well-behaved and pleasantly friendly. Sherry is helping our dog develop the confidence to accept others; whether it's a person, a bicyclist or another dog. Sherry arrives at our training sessions with a plan for the day. She shares her ideas, provides examples and helps “train” us (the human factor) to be effectively consistent. We have progressed from training in isolation because of our dog’s barking and lunging, to meeting in parks and other common areas because there has been a significant behavioral improvement. We are so glad and fortunate to have met Sherry and enlisted her valuable help. More...

Oh man, where do I start? Sherry is incredible. I was convinced that our sweet English Lab was a bit dense. After googling dog training tips, we thought we where doing everything right and he was just not getting it. Boy were we wrong. She gave us pointers and guidance to keep it up until our next visit. I couldn't be happier! More...

My rescue dog Princess Leia is a sweet girl with bad habits. I gave her to Sherry for one week of camp and she came back ten times better. Gone is the jumping, the over excitement, and the leash pulling that had broken my wrist. She heels and waits for permission to go out the door. She greets family more appropriately. We are working with Sherry at our condo to teach our dog Joey how to walk appropriately on a leash. He lashes out at people on the sidewalk, other dogs and people. He is a rescue that had no leash walks and very little contact with other people and dogs. We have had 3 sessions with Sherry. We started out with simple tasks to teach him first how to learn. He has accomplished that goal, and is learning to listen and follow directions. He will now sit before going out for a walk instead of scratching and racing outside. He is learning to heel with little or no distractions. Joey is just more calm in general, which is very encouraging. I am confident that with Sherry's assistance, that we will reach our goal of having Joey heel and remain calm while on the leash.Sherry seems to truly care about her canine students and wants them to succeed. Wow! Did we make a score here...look no further. Came up from San Francisco for a conference in Orland and had to find day care for my pooch 8am-6pm for 2 days. Sherry, the operator/owner suggested I bring my boy by the day before upon my arrival in town for a little orientation. I was nervous...what if it wasn't a fit? It was easy to find. A couple miles off I-5. Very pleased to find and immaculate large fenced yard. With some plastic children's playground equipment (I was later given a picture of my boy on the slide), trees and grass. Very cool that she does not use kennels. The dogs come in the house when they are brought in as they are on a schedule. The house was so clean...how does she do it? Each dog has their own space, with bed and clean blanket. She had four guests in addition to two of her own. And this gal really loves dogs...they are her life passion, as she also  does rescue and advocacy. Finally, my boy was returned to me very happy and really tired (bonus!). Thank You!! More...
