Looking at Yelp and this place caught my eye, and bbq sounded amazing, so I stopped in for dinner. The inside smelled amazing and I got a seat right away. The waitress stopped by and gave me the menu, and told me about the daily special, which was burnt ends. That sounded really good to me so I ordered a pound of them because I was super hungry. The food came out fast and I was super impressed with the presentation of it all. The burnt ends looked amazing, you could see how juicy they were and the smell was making my mouth water. I also got mac and cheese and cornbread. It was love at first bite! The burnt ends were cooked perfectly and basically melted in your mouth and the 2 sides were perfect as well. I struggled to finish it all because I was so full at the end, but I wasn't going to let once ounce of that delicious food go to waste. The only thing getting slow cooked at Boxer BBQ is going to be your patience. Waited an 1 hour and 13 minutes for our meals. It's always great to see practically every party arriving 30 minutes after you get their food, eat, and leave before you're served. Food arrived cold, so we just had them microwave it. I have ordered take out twice for group gatherings of 15 people and was unhappy with both experiences at Boxer BBQ for a few different reasons to include timeliness, lack of communication on unavailable items, and substitution without notification. In both instances, the orders were placed online 3 to 4 hours ahead of time to ensure the food would be ready at the requested time to correlate with the timeline for the scheduled events. Visit#1 - Arrived to pick up the order due at 4:40pm and was informed they were out of pulled chicken. This order was placed online several hours earlier in the day and there was no contact by Boxer BBQ when the order was placed to revise order. They opted for customer notification at time of arrival to pick up order. Therefore, a new item had to be selected with a 20 minute wait for the order to be prepared. Visit#2 - This order was also placed online several hours prior to pick up. There was a note added to the order "arrival time will be 4:40 pm please ensure food in prepared and ready". In addition, a call was placed to the restaurant prior to submitting the online order to confirm pulled chicken was available for the order. The staff verified this item was available and the order was submitted. Arrived on time and food was ready. Arrived home and there was no pulled chicken but sliced smoked chicken instead. It is very disappointing when catering an event with an expenditure of $150-$200 (with tips included for staff) each time and not receive the service and food expected. More...

Traveled to council bluffs Iowa from Kentucky for my graduation with my Sister and Brother on June 1st So was looking for a place to eat so found boxers Bbq, so decided to try it and I must say it was awesome great atmosphere and service, our waitress Reagan was awesome she helped us with choices on food and drinks, which I must say were awesome I had the catfish and waffle sweet potatoes , they were large portions, I liked it so much I came back 3 days later before o left town and had the smoked chicken which I highly recommend, everything is tasty and delicious. I have to say I wish I had this restaurant in Kentucky where I live, I would go at least 4-5 times a month. Spouse and I took a drive for what we call a "mental health" day. Found this by checking for local restaurants in the area by Council Bluffs, Iowa and decided to try this place out. OMG...the BBQ was amazing and the entire staff was soooo kind and welcoming. Neat very clean restaurant in one of the historic parts of town and it did not disappoint. Hubby had the Certified Angus Beef Brisket Sandwich with beer battered fries and baked beans. I have the Moo'ing Pig Sandwich with baked potato and baked beans. This was some of the best BBQ we have ever tasted and will most definitely be going back again and again even though it is almost a 2 hour drive from our home.You won't be disappointed...a must try. I've loved boxer BBQ since it's was over by the Broadway and Kanesville intersection. Back then I would go there and get brisket by the pound, the meat was so tender and juicy, melted in your mouth, with a great smoky flavor. Some things never change.... Went to their new location on main street and got the sampler plate, with brisket, pork and ribs, and the brisket was still melt in your mouth, tender and juicy. The ribs were falling off the bone, the pork was flavorful even without sauce, and then the sauces... 3 to choose from, I couldn't make up my mind which one I liked best.I would have given the new location a 5 start rating except the portions were much smaller than they used to be and the prices were kinda high, so the value isn't as good as it used to be.Still, the food was great, the ambiance was nice, and the service was good, so all in all its still one of my favorite BBQ places. This is the best BBQ I have had in Iowa and if you are wondering why I haven't rated it higher is because I am just used to some really good BBQ at home. There was 3 of us so we had a sampling of the sandwiches and they were all good. Their cornbread was the best I have had at a restaurant. Watch out for those spicy pickles. The brisket was delicious, absolutely, but...we went home and finished eating dinner because it wasn't enough. We did share a plate. $20 for a 2 meat platter with 2 sides. The catfish was good but not very big. There was a $5 upcharge for brisket, then it was a pretty small portion and I'm a light eater, stingy portion. Our sides were cole slaw (tiny) and sweet potato fries? There was a $1.50 upcharge for the fries. Why? Then it was a portion for one person-like 6-8 waffle fries. Felt stingy. If you need a barbecue fix, this is the place to come! With recipes that are simply some of the best that I've had from cornbread to smoked prime rib you just cannot go wrong. Located just off the Square in downtown Council Bluffs by the courthouse, Boxer BBQ has been location for the last four years since taken over by they are new owners. The interior has a cool fresh vibe with an absolutely stunning handmade counter that serves as a community table right down the center of the restaurant. There are also individual tables, booths, and even a party room available in there upstairs for events. Both the main restaurant and the party room have bar areas.There is dedicated offstreet parking, which is limited, however, metered street parking is also available. The restaurant is immaculate and service. Staff are particularly pleasant and dedicated to ensuring that you were enjoying your food and your time at this wonderful restaurant. In addition to their dine in offerings, catering is also available. While we enjoyed a lunch at the restaurant. we also arranged for catering around the Christmas holiday. Both food experiences turned out to be absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.A highly recommended destination for excellent quality BBQ. If you happen to be in the area on Friday nights, smoked prime rib is available until they sell out which happens quite often so make sure you get there early! Boxer is really good. I've tried much of the menu and I've never had any bad food here, but the portion sizes for the sides can be a bit on the smallish side, considering how expensive it is. I mean it is BBQ after all, and all BBQ is expensive, plus it's a locally owned place. The service is always very good, and they have a large drink selection. They have 3 sauces at the tables, one is regular, one is spicy, and one is smoky, and all are good. Their new location downtown is in a beautiful old building, and it also has off street parking so you don't have to pay a meter. Boxer Barbecue is a long time favorite in Council Bluffs. During the pandemic, they moved to a completely remodeled location in the heart of downtown Council Bluffs. The restaurant offers free, offstreet, parking, and easy access. Inside you'll find a beautiful handcrafted community table for you to meet new folks, share stories and appetizers. They offer a full bar with a nice selection of draft beers including some local options. The food is outstanding and is available for dine in or takeout. With call ahead orders, you can try some of their smoked prime rib, which is awesome for the holidays. Their smoked specialties include a selection of chicken, pork, beef and wonderful sides that include beer breaded, onion rings, Mexican street corn, and fabulous cornbread. Came in around 130pm and was not busy at all. We ordered up sweet potato waffe fries for appetizer. They were crispy but tender inside and i do not really like sweet potato but ate these up. Wife and me shared a 3 meet platter of pork shanks(good smoke stank on em), brisket(thicker cut) and pulled pork. All were really good, decent portion size with good flavor. I usually get one of the sandwiches which never disappoint. All three of the sauce options are bangers and the sides are out of this world. The baked beans are basically a desert and the potato salad is a knock out. The cornbread is also a fan favorite. Wait staff is very aware when they are full staffed.
