Used to love this place, but the food is just ok and it has become very expensive! Had lunch there today, cheese curds, side of squash soup, and a diet drink. ....$22 before tip!! The soup, which was good, was not a bowl, but rather a cup and it was $8 !!Just not worth it........ More...

Nice place but...Meh. In Texas they have a saying-"All hat, No cattle!" Meaning all style no substance. Thats the vibe I got here. I ordered Salmon and Rice Pilaf. My wife got the risotto (poor choice in a restaurant, I know). Not bad, bad basically we paid 100 bucks for a bowl of rice, two drinks and a piece of fish........... My wife ordered a grasshopper for an after dinner drink. I dont know WHAT they thought they were doing...but what arrived at our table was somewhere between a Mint Snow cone, and a green smoothie. Thats an ice cream drink folks, pretty simple. More...

Make a reservation. This place is popular. Excellent food and service. Good old fashions. This is no longer a reasonably priced restaurant. Save it for a special occasion. A side Caesar salad is $12.00 and a cup of soup is $8.00. Dinners don't include soup or salad but most include potato and veggie. Start with the cheese curds. You'll be happy you did. Light, tender and utterly delicious. Just wish the serving was a bit larger. Our steaks were prepared as ordered and served with a large stuffed potato and the best green beans. Buttery, garlicky and tender crisp. The seafood pasta was large filled with salmon, scallops and shrimp. The ribs were tender and flavorful. Portions are large so we didn't have room for dessert.. Came here for restaurant week and really liked the food. The salad was very fresh tasting with a lot of fresh fruit. Really liked the trio meat sampler as well, was nice to be able to try the chicken and ribs and steak all in one meal. Really liked the bbq sauce as well that accompanied the meal. The chocolate pie cake was very good as well with very nice presentation of the dishes on the plate. Great place to take a family for dinner or for a business lunch or dinner. More...

Food is good.  Cocktails are so so.  Lots of little things are off though.  A bunch of seats are blinded by the sun each evening as it sets.  Why not get shades?  Also they charge $3 per shrimp when you add shrimp to a dish.  De-tail them please.  And lastly, I have been here many, many times.  I have never been able to get them to change the TV channel.  Tonight I asked them to put on the Brewer game and after multiple requests I was told they don't get that channel.  So then I asked them to put on ABC which I assumed every TV provider got so I could watch the Stanley Cup.  I was told by the bartender the manager would do it as soon as he got back (where was he or she?!?!?).  An hour later I had finished my meal and ESPN was still on.  ESPN is ALWAYS on no matter what inconsequential event is happening.  Weird. This place is ok! I like the atmosphere and the service. It is a chill place where you can have a low key vibe but still watch whatever sports game you want at the bar. The food was pretty average. I had a burger with potatoes. The burger was a standard burger and the potatoes were unfortunately hard and not enjoyable. They were not crispy, more like hard and chewy. The cheese curds were alright, and the chicken marinara was also ok. Not bad but just not amazing. I would only come here if I wanted somewhere slightly more comfortable to watch a game (rather than an actual sports bar). More...

I was invited to a birthday dinner at this restaurant and its was the worst experience I have ever had. I was asked how I was paying my food at least 3 times. I was reminded that payment was due and that we couldnt do a split checks before we every even got food. Our food was held in the kitchen until they verified that we could pay for out food. I should say this was a 16 year old birthday party. So there was about 12 teenage kids there and 5 adults. After paying my meal. I asked to speak with a manager. I told him that it wasnt appropriate to for the servers to verify out payment multiple times before serving out food. He told me that they can do what they want. That "we" werent welcomed. We never paid, always wanted discounts and didnt tip. I reminded him this was my first time to his establishment so I am not sure who "we" was but it wasnt me. He then went on to tell me to never return and that he didnt want my kind of people there. I have never been so humiliated in my life. More...

Dreadful lunch - everything was bad from start to finish...  The waitress was completely inept - no idea of what the lunch wine specials were - brought white for rose - then they were out of mussels and she finally though that we might need another menu? ??  We ordered bread - never came - the walleye was OK - the potatoes were deep fried, not roasted with a tiny spring of rosemary - beans terrible covered with ???- the flatbread with the fig was awful - doused in balsamic and layers of arugula - that was NOT prosciutto - not sure what it was...lumps of something - all in all a sticky mess...SO, to add insult to injury, the bill was completely wrong - we were overcharge for the wine and it seems charged the dinner price for the walleye...WHAT!!!  we paid the bill and on the way home Open table let me know that we were a no show - I so wish we had been...Brandi needs to be trained - this is just wrong....MPF More...

I was there on Wednesday, April 27, for a birthday dinner with friends, the way we were treated was disgusting! The manager, Sterling, came off as condescending and had a weird smirk the whole time. We were there for a while before we were able to order food, & only because we asked the waitress if we could order. She never offered us more water or to refill our drinks & responded rudely when I asked about it.

This was a 16 person reservation. The payment process was explained when the reservation was made, & again after the first part of our party arrived. Our waitress came to our table, about 20 minutes after we ordered our food, to ask how we planned on paying; A couple of minutes later, another waitress came to our table to confirm that we could & how we planned on paying for our food. BEFORE OUR FOOD WAS SERVED.

A waitress claimed that she heard someone at our table talk about leaving without paying. It was a VERY SAD experience!

I was heartbroken because I was excited to go there! I haven’t been there in years & I was one of the first people to occupy the space for a fashion show when the building was first built, then again for a model casting call, & when I joined the YWCA Board of Directors 3 years ago, our welcome party was hosted there. I NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM THEM.

The food has gotten progressively worse, to now causing food poisoning. What was once a great menu is now a sham. The cooks do not know the menu; they do not know food; they do not know their ingredients. The fried cheese curds were so bland and ill-prepared. Apparently, the cook (chef?) forgot to put salt in the batter. Did they not know that cheese curds are not salty? There was a big blob of melted cheese because there were some cheese curds that did not get evenly coated. My fig and prosciutto flatbread was a complete joke and so sickenly sweet, it was sweeter than desert. Prosciutto is not meant to be cooked. It takes 14-36 months to CURE the ham. This curing process creates a delectable flavor. YOU DO NOT COOK THIS ARTFORM BECAUSE IF YOU DO, YOU HAVE JUST UNDONE ALL THAT CURING AND TIME.  If you want prosciutto cooked, then you get prosciutto cotto - which is a completely different food item with a completely different taste. Hello! It is sacrilegious to undo over a year of curing because apparently, you don't know what prosciutto is - and if you are going to claim the use of prosciutto in your menu, then DON'T MESS WITH THE CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS by cooking this pricey delicacy. It's pricey for a reason, and a little goes a long way. Not at Bonfyre's.Secondly, the flatbread was a freaking cracker, for real. There was no bread. There was no yeast. There was a cracker. Where the hell did the flatbread go? You can't tell me they ran out, and if they did, it should have been off the menu.Thirdly, IT WAS SO SICKENLY SWEET. It was sweeter then desert, another topic that warrants further discussion. There was too much jam, too much glaze. Dinner should not be sweeter than desert. With such strong flavors, the prosciutto (not cooked - again, cooking steals the flavor 14-36 months of curing creates), the fig jam, the caramelized onions, and the balsamic glaze - a light hand is needed with all of these ingredients. Maybe also some thinking during the cooking process, and tasting to make sure you got the flavors right - because if the cook/chef tasted it, there is no way in hell they would serve it as their own meal. The only ingredient you can go overboard on, and in fact, would improve the dish, is the arugula. The more, the merrier would be OK.Onward to desert, which was the strawberry cheesecake with pepitas. I had this desert a few months ago. And a few months ago, it was absolutely delicious. It was fresh tasting, delicious, scrumptious, all the things that make you go Mmmmmmm. The cheesecake I had yesterday was horrendous - completely bland and not fresh in any way. THERE WERE NO PEPITAS, or the sliced almonds that replaced them last time. It made me think that they had hired a pastry chef for the day several months ago, and then froze portions, and during this freezing process, the cheesecakes were picking up the SAVORY flavors in the walk-in, so when you bite into the cheesecake, you get a terrible bland and not fresh mouthful with SAVORY flavors mixed in, of onions and carrots. We will not be returning. In addition, I still have a tummy ache. Based on this, I can say with certainty the food IS NOT fresh, and the menu and the art of food and cooking is not being taken seriously.OH - and yeah, the crab cakes are not crab cakes. They are hush puppies with FLAKES of crab in them. This is not a crab cake - another sacrilege, huge disappointment, and a GROSSLY overcharged item on the menu, for hush puppies. More...

I'm happily glowing in the bliss of an excellent dinner with friends. Superb service ( a shout out to Kevin ) and awesome food. We asked for a quiet table and they acquiesced. We were seated in a back corner which had enough lighting to allow us to read the menus. A big plus as the restaurant seems to be dimly lit. Maybe an older eyes observation.Kevin, our server,  was great. Personable, fun and pleasant while providing attentive service. He put up with my friends bullshit with a smile.Order the cheese curds. Light airy and served with ranch dressing. So very good.House made old fashions are a must. I could drink these all night long. I limited myself to one. Had to save room for dinner.I ordered the beef short ribs. So very yummy. Served with sautéed spinach and cauliflower mash. I was sad it was to big to finish but look forward to the leftovers. My hubby ordered the rib eye. Rare. It was perfectly seared and very flavorful. Served with the best green beans in Madison and a cheesy twice baked potato. If you are a rib fan do yourself a favor and order the baby back ribs. They come with Asian slaw and frites. Slathered in a sweet sauce, tender and succulent you can't go wrong. My friend raves about them saying they are the best in Madison. The seafood trio with shrimp, salmon and scallops over risotto not only looked amazing it tasted amazing. We added grilled Caesar salads, (5 stars ) and the soup of the day, French onion (3 stars) as a first course.4 doggy bags, and no room for dessert later, we left with happy memories and promises to return. Friday night dinner with friends. The place was packed. Our server was friendly and attentive.  We started out with Bonfyre old fashions. They were good. They arrived in a tall, rather than an old fashioned glass and without muddled fruit (orange and cherries) that we've become to expect with craft cocktails. The garnish was a sad cherry and tiny orange slice on the bottom of the glass under the ice. No points for presentation, but it was tasty. Ordered a second round. When drinks were delivered the waitress asked if we wanted to order appetizers. She said they brought back their crab cakes after a two year absence. We opted for crab cakes and cheese curds for our apps. The crab cakes come two to an order with a few greens and a squirt of sauce to make the plate decorative. The cakes are very small, about 1.5 inches in diameter. The crab was dry and over mixed, it was more like a paste than a flaky cake. Since it really wasn't served with a sauce the lack of crab flavor was really noticeable. Tried and done. Let's move on to the highlights of the meal. There are many so I'm not dinging them for the cakes.Cheese curds! Deep fried, lightly battered and crispy served with a side of ranch. Yummy! These are the best curds in the city and you must try them if your a curd fan. Two of us ordered the grilled Caesar salad and two ordered the soup of the day which was tomato bisque. The salads are a whole head of romaine lightly grilled and dressed with Caesar dressing. No anchovies. We've ordered them before so knew to ask for extra dressing on the side. They are large enough to share. The tomato bisque is garnished with two small wedges of grilled cheese sandwich. Awesome presentation and shows the Chef knows something about comfort food. My friend gave this a glowing recommendation.Main courses. All four of us ordered something different. There were two daily salmon specials. My friend ordered one of them -- salmon served over rice with asparagus. Nice presentation. She said she'd order it again. My other friend ordered the pork ribs. Actually, this is why we dined here. He comes for the ribs. Doesn't open the menu, doesn't consider anything else. This is his rib joint. They are fall of the bone tender and sweetly sauced served with Asian slaw and thin cut fries. The only thing missing was a wet nap or moist cloth to wipe his sauced covered hands on. My husband and I both ordered steaks. His was a bone in rib-eye and mine was the New York strip. Steaks come with a twice baked potato half and garlic green beans. Truth be known I come for the green beans. Just tender, buttery with a nice touch of garlic. Left overs are great the next day in a salad. Both steaks were ordered rare. Perfectly cooked, exactly as ordered, nicely seasoned, flavorful and very tender. I'm happy I ordered the steak. It just may be my go to entree now. Too full for desert so no review there. More...
