My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and it was absolutely lovely. Coming from NYC we are used to phenomenal steak houses. Their food was exactly what we were looking for. Lamb was to die for. Great wine selection and awesome service. It is a lowkey place and you feel right at home. More...

This stunningly romantic restaurant is best known for its steak and wine. We've been coming here for a dozen years - one less than it's been open. It is literally a destination restaurant for us, since coming here is a big reason we take the drive from Boston up to Burlington.I had the rack of lamb, and it was memorable. When time came for desert, I wanted the apple pie, but my wife wanted the chocolate cake. I stated that since she was always right, we must get the flourless chocolate cake. The waiter returned with half-portions of both, "compliment of the chef".It isn't often that a restaurant is worth a three hour drive. This one is. More...

We made reservations for a birthday dinner. The restaurant was quiet at the beginning but it got better as the night went on. It was a bit tight quarters for the table but the service was thoughtful and the food outstanding. We enjoyed the wine as well! They were out of some key steak cuts like the filet mignon and the lamb rack. More...

Food was excellent and servers were attentive and polite. However they had been very behind and tables around us had been waiting hours for their food. Our food was slow to come out, but reasonable. It was a bit distracting how unhappy the tables around us were. So it seems they need to figure out how to better handle a busy night or scale back on their reservations. I would recommend going on a weeknight not weekend or later in the evening to ensure you don't have a long wait. But again, food is really delicious, server went out of his way to be nice - so overall a good experience. More...

This was the best steak I've ever eaten in Vermont, and one of the best anywhere. Excellent wine selection and other dishes also - the beef Burgundy was especially good. Other comments about the slow service have a grain of truth, but it was attentive and polite - you just get the impression that they would like to hire an additional waiter, but can't. Anyway, I would recommend the food strongly, but wouldn't go here for dinner if you necessarily have movie tickets afterward. More...

I really enjoyed the ambiance, the food was great, and the staff was very pleasant. It was a bit like finding a nice little place in the gothic quarter in Barcelona; the service wasn't speedy or energetic, but the feel of the place was genuine and relaxed. I will definitely go back. More...

What a treat. It's down the back alley in the corner of a building that gives very few external clues to what's inside. The Blue Cat is a tiny, beautiful restaurant tucked away in downtown Burlington. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. The rest of the food was very good. The wine list covered a lot of territory. The bartender/waiter was low key cool. Prices weren't bad, either. We'd come back for sure.It is small, so make reservations ahead of time! More...

We just love the blue cat. Being from charleston sc having great experiences this was simply just as good. My family had never been there so it was a nice experience for the locals. I have been here twice and both times was top notch. I was bummed that the rack of lamb was not available but the steaks were fantastic, wine perfect, blueberry pie was a perfect finish. Thank you see you again soon. More...

Made reservations for two, and requested high top. We were seated as requested and the hostess presented menus and attentively brought ice with water and did all of the right things all evening. Hummus & pita is a nice change from crusty bread and butter or olive oil. Mussels were delicious, but a few soft pita triangles were not enough to soak up the soupy broth. Caesar salad was crisp and greasy. Ribeye was cooked perfectly and overall the food was tasty and satisfying. Portions were on the small size for the price (ie: only 8-10 mussels total, 4 tiny pita triangles, fois gras atop steak ~2x3" pat, "large" salad not meal sized) but all delicious. Only real negative aspect to our experience is that one young lady did everything.  Hostess, server, bartender...no one else. There were 6 tables seated and everyone was well attended to, but the pace for this one person was ridiculous and caused her to be somewhat abrupt and impersonal. Understandable but avoidable with better staffing. Again, for the price, a little disappointing but delicious and overall pleasant. More...

We have walked by the Blue Cat several times during our visits to Burlington but never went in.  This last trip we decided to give it a try.  We went in on aMonday to make reservations for Wednesday.  The place was very busy and we liked the look of the restaurant (small, cozy, dark).  Made reservations for Wednesday.  When we arrived on Wednesday we were seated right away and placed our drink orders (Maple Manhattan for me and a Ballantines for husband).  Our table was in the corner and just perfect for us.  There was complimentary hummus and pita bread.  For apps we had the Warm Beet Salad and the soup dour which was carrot soup.  For entrees we ordered Beef Burgandy (husband) and the Duck for me.  The menu at the restaurant is a little different from the one online but not drastically different.  We also ordered a Spanish red wine with the meal.  For dessert we had the Peach Pie and the Flourless Chocolate Cake. Each course came out on well timed. The food was delicious.  Our server/bartender, Mariasha (who I think is also the owner) was very pleasant and attentive but not hovering.  She and the chef, Jeremy, were the only staff that night.  Because we had an early reservation we were the only diners at the time so we had the house to ourselves. The vibe at the Blue Cat is great - love the darkness and the jazzy ethnic music.  I have read the other reviews and have to say that our experience was totally positive and that we will be back the next time we are in Burlington.
